Chapter 1222: Chapter 1219 Feeling Unwell

Chapter 1222: Chapter 1219 Feeling Unwell

The cook saw Chu Heng approach with a stern face and didn’t dare to neglect, hurriedly opening the sacks of grain on the cart: “My Lord, these are the regular rations.”

He reached out and took a handful of rice, just some ordinary grain that looked like aged rice.

He silently took a handful and then inspected all of the army’s food one by one, confirming that the grains were fresh. He instructed the soldiers to pay extra attention before turning back.

“How do you feel now?” Chu Heng saw that Liu Ruying, having just been examined, looked somewhat pale, and his spirit was even more wilted.

When Liu Ruying saw him coming, he hurriedly braced himself to sit up, but he had been feeling unwell in the stomach these past days, feeling weak all over and showing signs of a fever. He thought it was just a cold and, after drinking medicine for it, didn’t pay it much heed.

However, once the doctor said it was a serious illness, his mental state deteriorated, and he became terrified. He was unsteady when trying to sit up and almost fell over.

It was Chu Heng who reached out to support him, ensuring he was comfortable before saying, “Ruying, don’t worry.”

Liu Ruying gave a bitter smile. Serious illness, just from the name one could tell it wasn’t anything good. Usually one would have to rest in bed, and there was no guarantee of recovery.

Now he was wondering whether he would have to be left behind for the rest of the journey.

But delaying military affairs…

“If Brother Ruying trusts me, then rest at ease and focus on recuperating. Currently, we can spare a spot on the grain transport carts. It’s slightly inconvenient, but Ruying, you’ll need to rest in there for now.”

Liu Ruying was a bit surprised: “My Lord, I can continue on the road?”

“Of course,” Chu Heng affirmed with a nod.

Liu Ruying’s eyes widened. Although conflicted, the thought of possibly dying filled him with fear. Yet the idea of being left behind was also something he seemed unwilling to accept.

And to outsiders, it seemed that Chu Heng was anxious to transport the food, insisting on escorting the supplies even with Liu Ruying ill, not allowing the subordinate’s illness to cause any delay.

This caused anxiety within the ranks.

One day later.

Upon reaching the post station, Liu Ruying had another attack of diarrhea, leaving him completely drained, his face devoid of color, with cold sweat on his forehead.

He was taken into a room and saw Chu Heng in full armor standing inside, with another figure faintly visible by his side.

Liu Ruying had refused the servant boy’s assistance at the entrance.

Once the door closed, Chu Heng was supporting his arm, and he was already seated on the bed.

Just feeling himself getting lighter, he envied Chu Heng’s good physical constitution, unlike his own weak scholar’s body which had succumbed to illness on a long journey.

While smiling bitterly, he only managed to say “Thank you” when he felt someone taking hold of his wrist.

Surprised, he looked up to see an elderly doctor examining him.

“My Lord?” Liu Ruying finally realized something was amiss and instinctively looked at Chu Heng.

Chu Heng looked down at him: “Don’t worry, let the doctor have a look first.”

Soon, the doctor finished the diagnosis, and the conclusion was the same as before.

Chu Heng took a vial from his waist and poured out a pill, handing it to the old doctor: “Doctor, please take a look at this medicine, can it treat Ruying’s illness?”

The old doctor was taken to sit by the round table and began evaluating the pill.

“You rest first.”

After instructing him, Chu Heng quickly walked over, and the faint sound of a conversation between the two men could be heard. Liu Ruying, feeling quite uncomfortable, lay on the bed, his spiritual power absorbed by his unwell body.

By the time he came to his senses, Chu Heng was already bringing over a bowl of medicine.

“This pill can treat the serious illness, but I need Ruying to cooperate with me for the next few days.”
