Chapter 276:Blank’s Assassination

Chapter 276: 276:Blank’s Assassination

“Blankkk!!”Simon gasped in horror.

“Shape shifting magic….No it’s not that.”

“It’s the human skin of Steven.”

“Did you really think I was an idiot who wouldn’t take precautions?” Ethan asked quietly.

Simon’s eyes narrowed sharply.

Shock rippled through him, but his expression remained cold and controlled.

“If you think you are safe because of the Duke and Duchess,” Simon said slowly, “then you are overconfident.”

“Two Master ranks won’t be enough.”

Ethan smiled faintly, his eyes dark.

“Who said I relied only on them?”

The room fell silent.

For the first time since his defeat, Simon felt something unfamiliar.

Not the feeling of being afraid.

But the realization that the hunt had already begun, and this time, he might be the prey.

However he decided to maintain his composure.

No,he might be testing me.

Who knew if this was an act and he might be panicking inwardly. He can’t see people’s trouble so certainly he won’t be calm when he learnt of his family demise.

…….

A bright full moon hovered high in the sky, shedding gentle and warm light over the Blanks Estate.

The entire city was filled with peace and quiet happiness.

On one side, there was the constant hustle and bustle of the night market. Lanterns glowed softly, vendors shouted their prices, and people laughed while moving through the narrow streets. On the other side, entertainment shops remained open, their doors wide as music and chatter spilled into the streets.

Even late at night, unlike other places where doors were shut tight, the city was still alive.

The reason was simple.

People felt safe.

City guards patrolled the streets in rotating shifts, their armor clinking softly as they moved. Every corner had watchful eyes. Children ran freely, couples walked without fear, and merchants counted their coins in peace.

However, amid this calm, a group of figures moved through the shadows.

They left behind faint afterimages as they leapt from rooftop to rooftop, their movements silent and precise. Their presence did not disturb the air, yet the darkness itself seemed to bend around them.

They headed toward the outermost part of the city, where a massive mansion stood at the suburbs.

The Blanks Estate.

“It seems tightly guarded,” one of them whispered.

“Yes,” another replied quietly. “Most of them are at the Beginner and Intermediate stage.”

The group halted, crouching atop a tall tree near the outer wall. Below them, guards stood at the gates and along the walls, torches burning steadily in their hands. Patrols moved in clear patterns, never leaving blind spots.

At the forefront, two masked men stepped forward. Their eyes met briefly.

“It’s time for us to act,” one of them said.

The next moment, their bodies erupted with powerful auras.

The sudden pressure shook the peaceful air of the estate.

“Blanks,” one of them shouted coldly, “it’s time for you to be flattened to dust.”

With a sharp scream, one figure dashed forward.

SWOOSH!

A massive sword arc tore through the air and rushed toward the estate. However, the moment it reached the defensive boundary, the arc shattered and scattered, its force reflected back and slicing through the nearby forest instead.

SWOOOOSH!

Two powerful figures shot out from the estate, releasing their own overwhelming presence.

“Which idiot sent you?” a disgruntled voice echoed through the night. “I have never seen such foolish assassins!”

The man stepped forward, sword in hand, his posture firm and unyielding.

Then he glanced to his side. “Isn’t it Duchess Emma who recently became a Master Rank and Duke Phillips?”

“Hm.”

Emma stepped beside him, her robes fluttering as sharp wind blades began to form around her. Sparks of lightning danced along her fingers.

“Tell me who sent you,” she said calmly. “I promise you a painless death.”

The two masked assassins stiffened.

“Duke… Duchess…I didn’t know you have such sharp tongues” one of them muttered.

Duke Phillips’ expression hardened.

There were not many Master rank fighters in the Ruthiana Kingdom. The appearance of two Master rank assassins here was alarming.

“Why are you troubling Blanks?” Phillips demanded.

One of the assassins pulled out a dagger, its edge gleaming under the moonlight.

“You offended someone you should not have,” he replied and then lunged ahead.

The fight exploded instantly.

The assassins vanished into the shadows, their bodies melting into darkness as if they never existed. Phillips swung his sword, steel hummed as it sliced through the air, blocking a sudden dagger strike aimed at his neck.

CLANG!

The impact rang out sharply.

Phillips twisted his wrist and countered, his blade sweeping low, but the assassin flipped backward, barely avoiding the strike. His feet barely touched the ground as he landed behind a pillar.

At the same time, the second assassin lunged toward Emma.

She raised her hand.

CRACK!

A bolt of lightning shot forward, forcing the assassin to roll aside. Wind blades followed, slicing through the ground and carving deep scars into the stone path.

The assassin laughed softly as he vanished again, reappearing behind Emma. His dagger flashed toward her back.

BOOM!

A sudden wall of compressed wind slammed into him, throwing him back and crashing him into a tree.

Phillips moved with a blur leaving behind after images. His sword strikes were clean and powerful, forcing the assassin to retreat again and again. However, the assassin fought dirty, throwing dust, striking at blind spots, and aiming for joints instead of vital points.

They moved like crawling beasts using pillars, trees, and shadows to confuse their enemies. Each failed strike turned into another ambush.

Emma’s magic lit up the battlefield. Lightning cracked and wind howled, tearing apart the ground and splitting stone walls. Every spell forced the assassins to reveal themselves for a brief moment.

At the same time, Blank’s soldiers reacted instantly.

“INTRUDERS!”

Knights poured out of the estate, forming lines with shields raised and weapons drawn. Archers took positions on the walls, arrows aimed outward.

Intermediate knights charged toward the remaining shadows, cutting down lesser intruders who tried to slip past.

Steel clashed, magic exploded, and the quiet night shattered into chaos.
