Chapter 420: Chapter 413: Will Not Have Kidney Deficiency
Chengcheng checked his own little fingers, aware of his wrongdoings. He pouted a bit, promising to behave better, otherwise, his sister would ignore him.
He was really too young to understand the extent of the scare he had caused. Zhang Xiangcao was still shaken, Ren Li had lost over a dozen pounds, Tang Zhinian had aged rapidly, and Tang Yuxin had risked her life to find the antidote.
The process of finding the antidote was kept secret. If Tang Zhinian found out where Tang Yuxin had gotten it, the beating Chengcheng would get would be a certainty.
Now that the child was fine, Tang Yuxin planned to return to school for her internship course which she had missed for half a month. She had left in a hurry and needed to clear things up with her teacher.
The next day she purchased a ticket to Beijing. She left without even glancing at Chengcheng who stood pitifully at the door watching her. He chased after her to the doorway, but his sister never looked back.
Chengcheng was upset now and sat on the threshold crying.
Sisi walked over and crouched in front of Chengcheng.
“You caused this trouble,” she poked at Chengcheng’s chubby face, “Although your sister has a lot of those things, none of them are alive. And only she dares to handle them. I’m too afraid to. You’re gutsy enough to touch the live ones. Your sister is going to be mad at you for quite some time.”
Sisi knew this well. She had made a mistake before and her sister ignored her for months. Yet, the trouble she had caused was not as severe as Chengcheng’s. Now, Sisi wondered how long their sister would stay mad this time?
The pitiful Chengcheng sniffled. His look made Sisi feel sorry for him. She wanted to scold him but couldn’t. He was too young to reason with, and she could not bring herself to hit him.
Hence, she felt it would be best to ignore him for a while, to let him know that there are certain things one should never do. Given his fearless nature, if he didn’t learn these boundaries now, he might cause bigger problems someday. He might not only hurt himself but also terrify the adults around him.
Poor Chengcheng didn’t know it yet but from that moment on, his comfortable days were over. From being the beloved child of the family, he had become a neglected one. He was like the cabbage in the field withering away.
Tang Yuxin was on her train to Beijing. She pulled out her phone, which she hadn’t checked for a few days. She found a few unread messages.
They were all from Gu Ning.”
“I am in Beijing General Hospital now. The doctor said your sutures were excellent.”
“Of course,” Tang Yuxin had always been very confident about her sewing skills. She ensured all her stitches were neat and if possible, aesthetically pleasing.
She scrolled down to the next text.
“I’ve sent the snake to the disease control center. They’ll conduct systematic research on it. This snake is now nationally recognized as inedible.”
She scrolled down to another message.
“How’s Chengcheng?”
Tang Yuxin was about to reply. Her typing speed was slow as she wasn’t accustomed to her new phone.
Chengcheng is better. He has lost a lot of weight though. We don’t have our chubby boy anymore, just a skinny bag of bones now. She was quite emotional as she typed these words.
The bold little chubby boy has crossed a line. Sure, he’ll have to behave from now on.
She stopped for a thought, and then sent another message.
“Take good care of your kidneys.”
This was a well-meaning reminder to take care of his health especially after his kidneys had been injured. While he might appear perfectly healthy now, indulging in unhealthy lifestyles could lead him down a dangerous path, with fatal consequences.
Her phone buzzed again. It was another message from Gu Ning.
“Don’t worry, I won’t suffer from kidney deficiency.”
Somehow, Tang Yuxin found this sentence quite weird. But she didn’t dwell on it too much. She turned off the phone, lay back and finally relaxed. The past half month of fear and distress was finally over. She breathed a sigh of relief. She felt neither hunger nor the need to move. So she spent the entire two-day train ride sleeping.
After getting off the train, she returned to her courtyard house. There was a layer of dust everywhere, and the leftover rice she had left in the pot was still there from the day she left.
Half a month had passed. She wondered if the leftover food, was now moldy or if small creatures were growing in there.
She put down her backpack, opened the kitchen door, and removed the lid from the pot. Luckily, the weather was cold, so while the rice had dried up, no small creatures had started to dwell there. She soaked the pot in water and planned to clean it in a while. The vegetables she had bought before she left had spoiled since there was no refrigerator in the house.
Now with summer coming, food tended to spoil easily. Hence she decided to go out and buy a refrigerator soon.
She left for the store, purchased a small refrigerator and scheduled delivery for the next day, which was Saturday and she would be at home. She also stopped by the market to pick up a few vegetables. As she passed the mall, she saw a news report playing on the screens.
The news reported cases of a purple-red snake which contained a strong toxin. The public was advised to avoid touching the snake and refrain from consuming its meat.
Tang Yuxin returned home with her vegetables and was relieved to find that no reports had mentioned anyone getting poisoned from eating the snake meat. However, the news did clarify that if the poisoned person couldn’t get immediate treatment, death was a likely outcome.
