Chapter 191: Ashes to ashes
Chapter 191: Ashes to ashes
Dorian doesn’t waste a second and rushes straight at Chris.
First, a knee drives into his stomach. Then an uppercut sends him flying into the air, a relentless combo meant only to force him away from Mia, just as Blake ordered.
He knows exactly how furious Blake gets whenever his armor gets dirty... let alone his hair.
The last thing Dorian wants is to earn his wrath.
The moment he sends Chris flying far enough away, he finally goes for the kill.
He thrusts straight for Chris’s heart, but somehow Chris manages to knock the blade just far enough off course to make it miss.
Instead, the sword punches through one of his lungs. It isn’t a fatal wound for a vampire, but the pain and the toll it takes on his body are overwhelming.
At the same time, Dorian drives his other sword toward Chris’s head.
He barely manages to raise his forearm in time, using it as a shield to slow the strike.
Completely drained, the deep wounds in his chest and arm are healing painfully slowly.
The punctured lung makes every breath a struggle, and blood keeps pouring from his mouth. With one arm temporarily out of action, his skill in battle is crippled even further.
And yet, he refuses to give up.
Exhausted and more battered than ever before, the only thing keeping him on his feet is his determination to protect the body of the stepsister he loves.
Blake has already reached her again. He’s crouching beside her, reaching for the Tear of Azkarith.
The moment Chris sees that, he desperately charges at Blake to stop him, but Dorian intercepts him immediately.
"After five long years, it’s finally time to come home, Tear of Azkarith," Blake murmurs with a satisfied smile.
He’s just about to wrap his fingers around the divine artifact when he suddenly pulls his hand back and jumps away.
The instant he’s about to grab it, the pink gem set inside the artifact starts shining with a blinding light, radiating scorching heat.
"None of this makes any sense..." Blake mutters, frowning.
His disbelief turns into shock as a massive pillar of pink flames erupts around Mia, soaring into the sky as far as the eye can see.
The second Dorian sees that, he immediately breaks off his fight with Chris, leaving him half dead in a pool of blood, then rushes over to Blake’s side.
"Hey, Blake, what the fuck’s happening now...?"
"How the fuck should I know?!" he snarls through gritted teeth, his fear growing with every passing moment.
But that fear is nothing compared to the icy chill that runs down his spine the moment the pillar of flames dissolves.
Mia stands before them with a ruthless, cruel smile stretching from ear to ear.
Two massive golden dragon wings with pink membranes spread from her back, while two sharp golden horns rise from her head. The Tear of Azkarith is now embedded in her forehead, and her pink irises frame narrow, reptilian pupils.
"How the hell are you still standing? I was sure I stabbed you right through the heart," Dorian says with a scornful grin. "Whatever. I’ll just finish you off for good this time!"
"No, Dorian! Don’t do it!" Blake shouts, but he’s already too late.
Dorian is already charging straight at Mia at full speed, ready to bring his swords down on her once again.
But the only thing that reaches Mia is a cloud of ash, carried by the cool night breeze and the momentum of what, just a moment ago, was Dorian’s body.
Now that she’s in her Azkarith Incarnation form, all Mia had to do was fix her Destruction Dragon Eyes on him for a single instant to reduce him to dust.
It was an almost instant death. Just like Evelyne, Dorian knew exactly how the Destruction Dragon Eyes worked and had been trained to counter them.
But knowing how to stop me and actually being able to do it are two completely different things, especially after Mia’s massive boost in power.
Simply put, Dorian’s Sanguis energy wasn’t enough to contain those flames, and his body was reduced to ashes in an instant.
Blake stares in shock as the last traces of his companion’s ashes scatter into the wind.
But even more than him, Chris is completely consumed by terror.
The moment his weak eyes fall on that half-dragon, half-vampire, his mind is thrown straight back to New York. Never in his life had he come so close to death. He had been only a heartbeat away from being burned to ashes by that overwhelmingly powerful and merciless form of Mia.
A memory that was still painfully vivid in his mind.
M-Mia... why did you do it...? Why did you use that power again...? Shit! As if Crimson Requiem and Zayn Thzraneel weren’t enough... now we’ve got a problem that’s somehow even worse!
Mia takes a step toward Blake, and he instinctively takes one back. Then another. And another.
Even though the Destruction Dragon Eyes are locked onto Blake, he doesn’t burst into flames like Dorian did. That’s because his Sanguis energy is vastly greater than his late companion’s, enough to hold back Mia’s destructive gaze, even if it takes a tremendous amount of effort.
"Where did all that confidence go, foolish mortal?" Mia hisses in a deep, ominous voice, almost thrilled that her eye power wasn’t enough to finish him and that she might finally get a real fight.
"How dare you speak to the prince of the Kingdom of Mildlar like that?! I don’t know what kind of trick that is... but someone like you doesn’t stand a chance against me! There’s no way I’ll lose to you, Mia Valakys!"
"You still don’t get it, stupid vampire? I am not Mia Valakys."
"Don’t tell me you’re...? No... that’s impossible! Azkarith died thousands of years ago! Looks like all that power has finally gone to your head!"
"You speak as if you know something about the Gods. As if we could truly be killed. No matter how powerful a mortal may become, their power can never, ever come close to that of a God. Nor can anyone in this multiverse kill us. What that vampire did thousands of years ago wasn’t kill me. He merely destroyed my mortal manifestation in this dimension. What stands before you now is nothing more than a pale shadow of my true power. An infinitesimal fraction — only as much as this body can withstand. And yet... it’s still enough to erase an insignificant microbe like you from existence."
"Stop talking bullshit! You’re not a God, and you’re definitely not immortal! You’re just a delusional former vampire princess who’s about to die!"
Blake thrusts both arms toward Mia.
From his right palm erupts a barrage of razor-sharp shards of frozen blood, glittering like tiny rubies. From his left, a scorching stream of crimson vapor bursts forth like a geyser.
Both attacks are just about to hit Mia when a vortex of pink flames whirls around her, effortlessly wiping them out.
"T-That’s impossible..." Blake stammers, stunned and terrified.
A sinister grin spreads across Mia’s face.
Now it’s her turn. She raises an arm, and a blazing fireball ignites around her hand.
"Say your last prayers, insignificant mortal."
