Chapter 170: Everyone is after Mia Valakys (1)

"Wow, your mansion really isn’t bad at all, Oktavian Azuralis. I could almost see myself moving in here permanently," Zayn Thzraneel says as he sips from a glass of wine.

"I already told you not to call me that," Frank Pyton hisses, nervously clenching the cigar between his teeth.

Also in the mansion’s living room is Raelor Valraen, quietly reading a novel by an English author. As a lover of literature, he has always been fascinated by human writing, especially works from the nineteenth century.

"Come on, Oktavian, you seem awfully tense," Zayn continues. "Aren’t you happy that Vadim Thalukvar sent us here to make sure you keep your word and actually put some effort into finding Princess Mia Valakys?"

Before speaking again, Zayn drains the entire glass of wine in a single gulp.

"Look on the bright side. Things could’ve been worse, couldn’t they? Vadim could’ve come himself. Raelor and I are vastly stronger than you, sure, but we’re not that cruel."

Then Zayn starts waving the empty glass in the air.

"Hey, you. Servant. Can’t you see my glass is empty? Pour me some more wine. Now. And be quick about it if you don’t want to end up regretting it," Zayn snarls at the maid dusting the living room.

"M-My apologies, Mr. Thzraneel. I’ll take care of it right away."

Frank watches the scene in tense silence.

Raelor, however, does not remain quiet.

"Zayn, you should show that woman more respect."

"Respect? And why exactly should I? Respect is earned through strength, and a creature that weak deserves none."

"The duty of the strong is to protect the weak, not to subjugate them."

Zayn shoots him an irritated look.

"Funny hearing that lecture from you, of all people, after what you did to obtain the power you have now. You talk about protecting the weak, and yet you killed the very people you were supposed to protect, even at the cost of your own life."

Raelor snaps his book shut and rises from the armchair.

He then turns to the maid who has just refilled Zayn’s wine glass.

"I apologize for that rude man’s behavior. If he disrespects you again, please let me know. I’ll personally see to teaching him some manners."

With that, Raelor gives the woman a slight bow.

"I’m going to get some rest. Have a good evening."

"T-Thank you, Mr. Valraen. H-Have a good rest."

"Dorothy, you can go to bed as well. Your shift ended quite a while ago," Frank adds.

"Hey, absolutely not! My wine glass is going to be empty again soon, and it certainly won’t refill itself!" Zayn cuts in.

"Since you keep bragging about being the strongest vampire in the multiverse, I’m sure you’re capable of lifting a bottle on your own," Frank replies irritably as he crushes his cigar into the ashtray.

"Tsk..."

A short while later, Frank leaves the living room as well.

He locks himself inside his office and resumes his word-by-word analysis of the Ritzhargul, searching for clues about the possible location of the divine artifact connected to Orzyath, the Spider Weaving the Web of Reality.

Barely ten minutes into his reading, his phone begins to ring.

The caller is John Kendrow.

John had once been the captain of Team 21 of the HESPARC U.S. Division before being promoted to General following the events in New York.

"For you to be calling me at this hour, I assume you’ve finally found something."

"Yeah. It took almost a month, but I finally managed to get hold of the information regarding Mia Valakys’s transfer. As you can imagine, it was highly classified data, known only to the directors and deputy directors of the HESPARC divisions in the United States and Japan."

"Oh... Japan. So that’s where Mia Valakys was transferred, then? In any case, it took you long enough, considering your sister is the Deputy Director of HESPARC U.S."

"Family ties don’t mean a damn thing when international matters are involved. And sure enough, she didn’t tell me anything. I had to have her computer hacked to get that information. I took a considerable risk, and I expect compensation worthy of it."

"Don’t worry, John. The elections are just around the corner. Before long, I’ll be President of the United States... and you’ll be the Director of HESPARC U.S."

"I certainly hope so. I’ll send you Mia’s transfer location shortly. Anyway, that’s not the only reason I called."

"I’m listening."

"The Crimson Requiem has just arrived in Washington. I’m meeting with them tomorrow to discuss the Mia Valakys situation. They are not aware of her whereabouts, so General Santiago Santos sent them to me — probably believing that I know something, or perhaps simply to send them as far away from South America as possible. I assume I should keep them in the dark and pretend to know nothing."

Frank takes a long moment to think before answering.

"This is actually an incredible stroke of luck. The fact that they’re here looking for Mia Valakys works perfectly in our favor. Tell them where she is as well, but let them know you’ll personally arrange their transportation. I’ll have a private jet prepared for them the day after tomorrow. It’ll make everything faster and considerably safer. Obviously, you can’t exactly host a meeting with them at your own house. I’ll put an office at your disposal in one of my companies in Washington — somewhere that won’t attract unwanted attention. I’ll send you the details later."

"Understood."

With that, John ends the call.

"G-General Kendrow... w-what does this mean...? W-Why did you do that...?"

John spins around the moment he hears that faint, trembling female voice behind him.

Standing there is Brianne Leviantis, the Monster Slayer and former classmate of Chris’s from Tsugumi High.

John lets out a long, nervous sigh.

"Damn brat. You’re really incapable of staying in your place and simply following orders, aren’t you?"

A long sword of white light extends from John’s hand.

"Now I’m going to have to silence you, you nosy little fool."
