Chapter 334 - 276: Am I Right, Mr. Zhu?
Inside the nuclear facility.
The moment Chu Bamboo set foot inside, he knew something was wrong. The White Bead he had taken from Number Three, now tucked in his clothes, was constantly radiating heat. ’Is it shielding me from something?’
His thoughts churned, and a realization struck him. ’It must be shielding me from the nuclear radiation! No wonder... I had found it strange. Even with their powerful Cultivation, staying here for so long should have caused issues... So, as it turns out, they do have countermeasures!’
’I just don’t know... what the true nature of this White Bead is!’ Chu Bamboo mused. The bead’s functions seemed practically universal.
"You son of a bitch... you fucking moron! Why didn’t your mother just..." The Two-headed Scale People was off to the side, unleashing a torrent of abuse at Fifth. Its two heads traded off, spewing all manner of profanities, showing none of the decorum expected of a Bishop.
Fifth ignored him completely. He turned, glanced first at Eleven, then let his gaze fall upon the ’Number Three’ stand-in that Chu Bamboo had created with his Disguise technique. He stared for a long, long time before sighing.
As for Chu Bamboo, who was currently wearing the Squirrel Person mask... Fifth didn’t even spare him a single glance.
"You know this guy?" Eleven walked up to Fifth’s side, his tone cold.
"I do! Mr. Zhu from the guild... My public persona and he are on very good terms." Fifth made no attempt to hide it, his words carrying a peculiar tone. "So, you’d better protect that subordinate of yours. Otherwise, I’m afraid I might not be able to hold back... and just kill him."
Chu Bamboo: "..."
’Oh, great. So that’s how we’re playing this, is it?!’
"You can try me," Eleven retorted, not backing down an inch. Then, he shot a stern look at Chu Bamboo. "What are you still doing here? Go lay out formation pattern number five!"
"Yes, sir." Chu Bamboo appeared respectful on the surface as he silently walked forward. He, of course, had no idea what formation pattern number five was, but that was fine. He could just slack off a bit and learn by watching the Wraiths beside him... Due to their nature, the Wraiths were all performing very simple, repetitive tasks, making them very easy to copy.
Chu Bamboo could sense it now. Even though the Destiny Divine Techniques had faded, the luck they had bestowed upon him hadn’t. ’So,’ he thought, ’as long as I don’t expose any major flaws, I probably don’t need to worry too much about this... right?’
Time trickled by.
Chu Bamboo’s brow gradually furrowed. Fifth and Eleven had fallen completely silent, much to the disappointment of Chu Bamboo, who had been hoping to glean some information from their conversation.
The only sound in the area was the nonstop cursing from the Two-headed Scale People... and after a while, it would even take a short break before recovering its strength and starting its tirade all over again.
Chu Bamboo, however, was quite curious as to why Fifth and Eleven were completely ignoring the Two-headed Scale People.
Finally, it was 10:30.
Chu Bamboo and the horde of Wraiths had covered the entire central hall of the nuclear facility with a dense tapestry of formation patterns. Of course, these so-called patterns were, in reality, all sacrificial runes of the All-Powerful Lineage. They looked complex, but they were essentially just a single symbol, repeated countless times...
Eleven spoke abruptly. "Let’s start the blood sacrifice early."
"Oh?" Fifth raised an eyebrow.
"I had originally planned..." Eleven glanced toward Number Three and paused for a moment before continuing, "but since he’s already dead, it doesn’t matter anymore."
"But... we haven’t found God’s embryo yet, have we?" Fifth asked the crucial question. "According to Revelation, it’s highly probable that God’s embryo is in Jinghai. However, we can’t be absolutely certain... Besides, Revelation said the embryo *was* in Jinghai at that time. Time has passed since then. It’s possible God’s embryo... has already left! What if it went to the Celestial Capital? Or the Imperial Capital? Or some other city?!"
"It doesn’t matter. If we don’t succeed this time... we’ll just wait for the next order from Revelation," Eleven’s voice was devoid of emotion, yet it reeked of blood and fire. "It’s fine. There are plenty of other cities on this continent comparable to Jinghai City."
The Two-headed Scale People, which had been resting as if tired from all the cursing, suddenly snapped its four eyes open. It stared daggers at Eleven, its voice seemingly squeezed through its teeth. "You will regret this! You are not worthy of worshiping God... You have violated the vow of love from the Holy Bible!"
"Hmph!" The words seemed to strike a nerve. Eleven, who had been ignoring the Two-headed Scale People until now, whipped his head around. Staring coldly at the creature, he spat, "We can talk about that after the Lord has been resurrected! Fool!"
The Two-headed Scale People’s face contorted. It seemed to want to say something, but no sound came out. Its hands flew to its two necks as it began to cough violently. It then turned its head and shot a vicious glare at Fifth.
’...’ Chu Bamboo fell into thought. ’The Two-headed Scale People looked like it wanted to say something... something involving Fifth... Could this also be the Fifth Apostle’s handiwork?!’
"...So crazy," Fifth remarked. It was unclear whether he was referring to Eleven or the Two-headed Scale People.
Sensing Eleven’s sharp gaze on him, Fifth raised his hands with a grin. "Fine, fine! I have no objections. It’s all you."
Fifth made the sign of an Inverted Cross on his chest, his voice filled with piety. "May the Lord return to the earth!"
Chu Bamboo stood silently behind Eleven, his mind racing. ’Revelation... what is that?’
’Wait a minute! That thing... it can receive some kind of information, too?’
A strange sense of déjà vu washed over Chu Bamboo. After a moment’s thought, he realized—it seemed remarkably similar to that thing inside the Golden Dawn’s small, dark room...
And considering that both the All-Powerful and the Golden Dawn worship the same...
’Could there really be a connection?’
But, God’s embryo!
’If I’m not mistaken, they used to think I was God’s embryo! But the thing is... how could I possibly be that?’ Chu Bamboo’s eye twitched. He was well aware of his own unique nature, so he was certain he had absolutely nothing to do with the so-called God, or the so-called All-Powerful and All-Knowing God...
’But if it isn’t me... then who is it?’
Chu Bamboo lowered his gaze. Names flashed through his mind one after another, but he couldn’t settle on any of them.
Still, a large amount of information was now converging in his mind, and he was beginning to piece things together.
The All-Powerful’s goal was to find God’s embryo and then use a blood sacrifice to allow the so-called God to return to the earth... The end result, presumably, was that sky-piercing black pillar.
Though he didn’t know the specifics, the appearance of that black pillar could not possibly be a good thing for the world...
’However, judging from that black pillar, I can also deduce that their ’target’ must still be somewhere within Jinghai City!’
Daqian’s goal, on the other hand, was to pollute Jinghai City and harvest a massive amount of resources.
The two parties had formed a sort of tacit understanding... but in essence, they were just using each other. And the final result was—Daqian had played its hand and lost control.
Eleven raised his palm. Wisps of black mist swirled over it before he suddenly clenched his fist. "Begin!"
At that moment, the movements of all the Wraiths on site stiffened. They opened their mouths in unison, uttering a single, clear word: "Begin!"
"Begin!"
’...’ Chu Bamboo had a sudden realization. ’Perhaps due to the distance and their sheer numbers, Eleven can’t control the many Wraiths with precision. So, he’s just making all of them say "Begin" at once to announce the start of the plan!’
"Hmph, hmph." Fifth pulled out a series of controllers from his clothes and began tapping them lightly. Soon, one video feed after another appeared on the screen. It was obvious they were from camera-equipped drones.
Chu Bamboo watched in silence. On the screens, Black-robed Angels deployed, carrying out the same tasks he had already witnessed several times before.
An ominous black mist spread rapidly the moment explosions rocked the major factories. Everything was being destroyed and annihilated.
Death, destruction...
Now standing in the position of a mastermind, Chu Bamboo watched in silence as the entire Third District was wiped out, the black mist then gradually spreading toward the Second District.
However, when it reached the First District, the black mist was naturally halted. Although he couldn’t see what was blocking it, the shape the mist took as it was stopped suggested there was something between the First District and Second District... ’A transparent wall? A barrier?!’
"Hmph!" Eleven snorted, a chilling light in his eyes. "Damned Wa Huang! She abandoned our Lord! If She were willing, our Lord could have returned long ago... Damn it. That First Apostle fellow used to say Wa Huang had exhausted Her power... Looking at it now, isn’t She protecting the First District just fine?"
"..."
’Wa Huang... as in Nuwa?’ Chu Bamboo thought calmly. The implications of that statement were terrifying. ’This barrier... was created by Nuwa? But... wasn’t she supposed to be in a deep sleep?’
Chu Bamboo’s brow furrowed even tighter. ’Nuwa... what exactly is her status right now?!’
"...How have we not found the specific target yet?" Eleven grew visibly agitated as he watched. "Is it possible it’s really not here..."
"Relax," Fifth said calmly. "As long as the person is still within the bounds of Jinghai City... they will inevitably be caught by the God’s Mist. They might be hiding in the First District, or somewhere else... but as long as they’re in Jinghai City, we just have to wait. The God’s Mist will eventually point the way, and then we just have to show up and drag them out."
"However... according to our deal with ’them,’ it’s now time... we should detonate this forbidden ground beneath our feet!"
After a brief pause, Fifth fixed his gaze on Chu Bamboo with great interest, his voice laced with profound meaning. "Wouldn’t you agree... Mr. Zhu?"
