Chapter 902: God’s Experiment
Chapter 902: God’s Experiment
Yuan and the others had no idea that the birth of the Evil God—the God of Corruption—was the result of an experiment conducted by the Gods residing in the High Heaven.
After learning this, they fell silent for a moment, unsure of what to say. However, it no longer mattered, as it had nothing to do with them directly.
But the fact that the so-called gods were willing to erase an entire race from existence simply because they wielded a different kind of power was something that filled them with fury.
And now that the Gods had learned that there were humans in this world who could also wield that power, their desire to seize it for themselves had resurfaced once again.
“Everything makes sense now… No wonder the gods are after us. It appears their hunger for power never truly vanished,” Valeria muttered in a low voice before letting out a soft sigh and leaning back against the sofa.
“Their goal is simple. They want to wield Qi, and they will do anything to obtain it. That is why you must be extremely careful and never underestimate them,” Duke Cedric spoke in a grave tone as he looked at Yuan.
“Duke Cedric is speaking the truth. You must not underestimate those so-called gods. They have no morals whatsoever,” Emperor Rhex nodded with a serious expression.
“It’s fine. We are more than capable of handling them. Besides, I now have a clear goal,” Yuan replied calmly.
Then he added, “By the way, I’ve been wondering—how exactly did the First Demon Emperor die? Was he truly killed by the Heroes?”
“No. He was not killed by the Heroes, nor by the Gods,” Emperor Rhex answered firmly, his teeth grinding slightly.
He took a deep breath, preparing himself to reveal the truth behind the death of the First Demon Emperor.
“When the Holy Church and the Gods declared war against us, they branded us as heretics—the darkness that would bring destruction upon the world. Those were the words they used to describe us,” Emperor Rhex spoke, his voice filled with fury and lingering pain.
He continued, “However, His Majesty used all his strength to tell the world that we demons were nothing like what the Holy Church and the Gods claimed us to be.”
“Unfortunately, no one believed his words. Everyone sided with the Holy Church and the Gods. They sought to erase our existence from this world and bring destruction upon the entire Demonic Continent.”
“When the Holy Knights and the Heroes invaded the Demonic Continent, chaos and devastation followed, spreading slowly across the land. Our armies fell one after another, as the forces of the Holy Church were simply too overwhelming.”
“It wasn’t merely a war… it was a battle for survival. Our entire race stood on the brink of extinction,” Rhex said as his expression hardened and his fists clenched tightly.
The four dukes remained silent, lowering their heads as they listened to the Emperor’s words with pained expressions, the memories of the war still haunting them.
The wounds in their hearts remained fresh despite the passage of time, as they vividly remembered how the world had suddenly turned against them—simply because of another’s greed for power and supremacy.
Rhex took a deep breath and spoke, “The war brought destruction everywhere, and the Holy Knights and the Heroes spared no one. They wore cruel smiles as they slaughtered everyone they saw.”
“They killed indiscriminately—man or woman, it made no difference to them. They didn’t even spare the children. They butchered everyone mercilessly, as if we had committed some unforgivable sin.”
“It was a gruesome sight. Villages were razed, cities were burned to the ground. Wherever you looked, there were only piles of our kin’s corpses…” Emperor Rhex’s voice grew low and heavy as he revealed the truth to Yuan and the others.
“So how did the First Demon Emperor die?” Valeria asked, her expression solemn yet curious.
“His Majesty sacrificed his life to save our people. He died for us… to preserve our race from extinction,” Emperor Rhex replied with a heavy sigh.
“The Gods created a powerful explosive weapon to destroy the Demon Empire and erase us from existence. It was a newly developed weapon—something we had never seen before.”
“It was terrifyingly powerful. It wasn’t just a threat to our existence, but a threat to the entire continent,” Emperor Rhex said seriously, memories of the painful past surfacing.
“Our strength was something even the Gods feared, and because of that, they resorted to such despicable tactics. During the war, the Holy Church lost countless Holy Knights. Our soldiers overwhelmed them in nearly every battle.”
“However, unable to defeat us directly—even with their overwhelming numbers—they turned their blades toward villages and cities, targeting ordinary people and destroying innocent lives.”
“They brought the explosive weapon to the Demonic Continent. Since they couldn’t defeat us in battle, they intended to wipe us out with a single explosion.”
“And our great monarch used every last ounce of his strength to stop that explosion from destroying everything. He sacrificed his life to protect everyone—to ensure his people would not die senselessly.”
“And by the time the explosion occurred, all the Holy Knights and Heroes had already retreated far away, completely safe from its devastation.”
“The explosion was so powerful that it shook the entire continent. And what followed afterward was something none of us could have ever expected…” Emperor Rhex concluded his account of the war that forever changed the continent.
The Holy War began because of the Gods’ greed and ended with the death of the Demon Emperor—an innocent ruler who paid the ultimate price.
However, his death was not in vain. It allowed his descendants to survive, preserving the bloodline and keeping it safe from the gods’ insatiable greed.
At the same time, the entire continent suffered irreversible damage. Countless innocent lives were lost, including children who had no understanding of what was happening.
With a heavy sigh, Duke Hexryn added, “It was that same explosion that erected the mysterious storm barrier around the continent. We don’t know who created it—it simply appeared right after the war.”
“Still, we are grateful to whoever formed the barrier, as it has protected us ever since the Holy War. And after so much time has passed, the Gods must have grown even more powerful,” Duke Corvin added gravely.
With a serious expression, he continued, “Without that barrier, those greedy scoundrels would have surely attacked us again, attempting to destroy us once more.”
