Chapter 1712: A Meeting Between Universes (9)

“That…”

As those words left Eve’s mouth, the frowns on both Odin and Mimir’s faces deepened at first, their expressions immediately telling the former that they were against the idea.

Though, as they gave her words a bit more thought, the frowns on their faces gradually disappeared.

Instead, their expressions into that of realization and disappointment.

’How… the hell did we not think of that?’

With this question lingering in their minds, both Odin and Mimir briefly glanced at each other, wry smiles adorning their faces.

Then, giving the idea a bit more thought, the latter eventually let out a low sigh as he shifted his gaze towards Eve. “To think the answer we wanted to obtain would ultimately come from someone of a different universe.”

“I’m honestly ashamed that I, a God of Wisdom and Knowledge, or any of the knowledge deities, have not come up with that idea in the past,” he continued as he let out a bitter chuckle.

Though the potency and efficacy of Myth Energy had undoubtedly convinced everyone in their universe to make it their primary source of energy, far before Mythos had come up with the energy, aether permeated their entire universe.

In fact, with how abundant it was in the past, it went without saying that all of the beings back then relied on it to improve their strengths to greater heights.

Even Odin and Mimir were not spared from that fact, having used aether for the most part to push themselves to the level of Celestials.

Unfortunately, with how popular Myth Energy was back when that energy was still available in the universe, even they had unknowingly forgotten to recall the energy that stuck with them before the other energy came around.

Then again, it didn’t help that even aether had become lost to time after Myth Energy disappeared from their universe altogether.

“Though it would take some time for your universe to adjust, I’m sure reviving aether in your universe would be the better choice compared to adopting our universe’s mana,” said Eve, giving both Odin and Mimir a slight smile.

“Then again, considering how much more potent Myth Energy is compared to it, I suppose neither of you are satisfied with just reviving aether.”

Seeing that the smile on the woman’s face had subtly changed to give them a subtle message, the two old men glanced at each other for a bit before Odin eventually spoke up.

“Are you… perhaps telling us that you’d help us improve our aether to that level?” he asked, voicing out the first thought that popped up in his mind.

“It’s not impossible,” replied Eve with a chuckle, giving both Adam and Azazel a knowing glance. “With the various types of energy available within this universe, it’s only a matter of time before we create a form of aether that could be on par with the Myth Energy you used to wield back then.”

“But of course, things like that don’t come for free.”

At those words, she looked at the two with a calm smile.

“It wouldn’t be proper if it was.” Odin faintly nodded in agreement, already having an idea of where the conversation was heading.

“However, I don’t know if both of us are thinking of the same thing?”

“You tell me,” said Eve, still smiling. “Are you willing to offer something we want in exchange for our help in improving your universe’s energy?”

“Something you want?” Odin slightly frowned at those words, looking at Mimir after that.

Frowning as well in response to Eve’s words, the latter let out a soft sigh before sending a strand of energy containing his message to the former.

’Though they’ve shown themselves to be good-natured, that does not mean that we have to agree to it.’

’After all, we’ve already figured out how to convert one form of energy to another back then,’ the old man continued. ’We’ve even improved the efficacy of our methods thanks to the conversion methods they’ve shared with us.’

’With enough time, I’m sure we’d be able to revive aether through our own efforts. In fact, I’m sure that with us continuing to improve the conversion, it wouldn’t be long until the universe is filled with aether again.’

’That may be true,’ replied Odin with a slight nod, briefly glancing at his companion before returning his gaze back to Eve. ’However, I get the feeling that there’s more to their offer than meets the eye.’

’More to their offer than meets the eye…?’ Mimir raised his eyebrow at those words. ’Is there something in her words that I’ve perhaps overlooked?’

’Not necessarily.’ Odin faintly shook his head. ’If anything, it’s more so the feeling I’m getting from her.’

’I suppose it’s something to do with us being on the same realm of existence.’

’…’ Remaining silent after hearing those words, Mimir briefly wondered to himself if the person he’d known for a long time had fallen for someone from a different universe.

Though, after shifting his gaze back and forth between Odin and Eve a couple of things, the old man decided not to dwell on it any further as he let out a low sigh.

’Do as you wish.’

Receiving that response from Mimir, Odin briefly gave his old friend a slightly apologetic smile.

Then, returning his gaze to Eve, his expression returned to its previous calm.

“Although you haven’t mentioned what kind of item you’d want from us in exchange, would it be possible for you to show us the confidence behind making such an offer in the first place?”

At the very moment he was finished asking that question, the old man closely examined the latter’s expression, understanding that her reaction to it would reveal the truth behind her claims.

If he sensed even the slightest hint of wavering in her expression after that, then there was a considerable chance that the woman before them was merely attempting to gain benefits during their first meeting.

However, if she remained composed…

“I don’t mind,” replied Eve, stopping Odin’s attempts at inferring more information as she gave him a slight smile.

Whoosh!

Extending one of her hands out, Eve went ahead and conjured an orb containing the simplest form of energy in their universe.

“This is mana,” she said. “I’m sure you’ve already familiarized yourself with its crude counterpart, but this is the form it commonly takes within this universe.”

Giving both Odin and Mimir some time to examine the orb of mana in detail, she then willed the energy within the orb to transform, prompting the color of the orb to shift from blue to a light cyan.

“This energy, on the other hand, is considered the first evolution of mana in our universe.”

“Though many races in our universe have their own names for it, this energy is also known by many as Arcana.”
