Chapter 1621: Breaking Barriers: Choice

Chapter 1621: Breaking Barriers: Choice

“Hmm?”

Although Ataraxia was already looking forward to the Extended Title getting upgraded after Aeramis mentioned it, the young man’s expression turned into that of curiosity after he heard what left the latter’s mouth not long after.

“Is there a problem with the fourth trial?” asked the young man, feeling that it was the reason why the man had brought the topic up in the first place.

“There’s no problem with it,” clarified Aeramis as he shook his head. “However, considering that you’ve chosen to tread the path of Breaking Barriers, just like the third trial you’ve just gone through, the fourth trial shall be different as well.”

The young man raised his eyebrow at those words.

“In the path of Whispering Winds and Soaring Skies, the fourth trial shall test one’s ability to integrate the movement skill they’ve comprehended during the third trial into one’s combat style.”

Seeing that he had obtained Ataraxia’s full attention, the man did not hesitate to go into detail in his explanation.

“On the other hand, although the mechanics of the fourth trial for the path of Breaking Barriers is more or less the same, there are two things that set it apart from the fourth trials on the lower paths.”

“For one, the movement skill you shall be integrating into your combat style is none other than the one you’ve created during the third trial,” said Aeramis, his expression calm. “As for the other thing that sets it apart…”

“That would be none other than the option to skip over the fourth trial and head straight for the fifth and final trial of the inheritance.”

“…” Blankly staring at the man in silence after hearing those words, Ataraxia eventually took in a deep breath to calm his emotions as a couple questions popped up in his mind. “Would there be any penalties in choosing the latter option?”

“There would be none.” Aeramis shook his head, briefly giving him a slightly odd look. “The reason behind that is because the path of Whispering Winds and Soaring Skies ultimately end after the fourth trial.”

“So, you could say that the fourth trial for this path is a bonus trial?” asked the young man in return.

“More or less.” The man shrugged. “However, do keep in mind that choosing to attempt the fourth trial rather than head straight for the fifth trial only increases the rewards you obtain at the end of the inheritance by a marginal amount.”

“But would it improve the effects of the title you gave me if I did?” asked Ataraxia after that, his gaze showing Aeramis that the question was important to him.

“If you were clear both the fourth and the fifth trial to its utmost limits, then it would,” said the latter after giving it a bit of thought. “It’s the least I could do in exchange for the effort you put in.”

“Then that pretty much settles it,” said the young man after that, giving Aeramis a wide grin. “I won’t skip over the fourth trial.”

“Are you sure?” Though the man had already expected such a response from the young man, Aeramis still thought about dissuading him for a bit. “There isn’t really much of a point in you attempting such a trial, considering that you’ve already shown an astounding level of talent already.”

“On the other hand, if you were to forgo attempting the fourth trial and proceed with the fifth trial, I wouldn’t mind guiding you to make sure you reach the limit of the final trial.”

As these words left his mouth, the man felt like there was a considerable chance for Ataraxia to be swayed by it. After all, gaining the ability to guarantee reaching the limit of one’s trial meant that the young man could obtain a free upgrade to the title he received.

Yet, contrary to Aeramis’ expectations, the young man remained steadfast.

“Though being guaranteed to upgrade the title one more time is quite tempting… it still doesn’t beat the opportunity of being able to upgrade the title twice,” said the young man, his gaze now containing the previous anticipation it had.

“…As you wish.” Seeing as Ataraxia was determined to reach the limits of the two remaining trials of his inheritance, the man understood that it was futile to dissuade him any further.

Whoosh!

With that, the man went ahead and brought up a screen in front of him, deciding to act upon the words he’d said before bringing up the young man’s choices regarding the fourth trial.

Ding!

Watching Aeramis interact with the screen he brought up for a bit, the young man soon heard the system go off in his mind, only for him to then feel as if certain parts of himself had been subtly improved because of it.

Understanding that this improvement he felt was all thanks to the upgrade Aeramis did to the Extended Title, Ataraxia went ahead and brought up the skill’s description, getting the feeling that it won’t be long until the next trial began.

Ding!

Currently, the number of trials the owner has reached the limit of is three.

> +10% boost to AGI and DEX

> +6% boost to all stats aside from AGI and DEX

> +10% boost to Movement Speed

> +10% boost to Reaction Speed

’A 2% increase to all of its effects, huh?’ Reading through the updated effects of the Extended Title, the young man eventually nodded in understanding.

Though the second upgrade to the title didn’t offer much improvement compared to the first time the title was upgraded, the fact that most of its effects became 25% stronger was still substantial.

In fact, after a bit of moving around, the young man felt like he could now reach the end of the second trial with relative ease, limiting his decision of avoiding all lasers to around 10 times at most.

Seeing that Ataraxia was satisfied with the upgrade he did to the title, Aeramis faintly let out a sigh of relief as he changed the topic of the conversation of the fourth trial.

“As I’ve mentioned before, the fourth trial involves the integration of the movement skill you’ve created into your main combat style,” said the man with a stern expression, only to recall something he had yet to tell the young man.

“Though, now that I think about it… I suppose it would be ideal if you were to have the system recognize your skill first.”
