Chapter 1597: Breaking Barriers: Before the Second Trial

While Aeramis was still at a loss for words as a result of his bluntness, Ataraxia took it as an opportunity to refresh what he knew about the Ancient level.

Similar to how Legends were those who reached the pinnacle of strength as a Rank 5 being, Ancients were recognized as those who reached the pinnacle of strength as a Rank 10 being.

However, unlike Legends, which only had one requirement in order to be recognized as one, Ancient-level beings had to meet a number of requirements to obtain that same recognition.

From what Ataraxia could obtain from his past life’s memories, Myths were classified as Ancients in the far past as long as they met three requirements.

The first requirement was to have a class that was at least Legendary grade or higher.

The reason behind this requirement was because the possibility of getting any further than Rank 11 would become abysmally low if one had a class that was of lower rarity.

On the other hand, the second requirement was similar to the requirement Legends needed to achieve, which was to have control over a Nascent Law.

Though, compared to Forces, the difficulty of comprehending a Nascent Law was far greater, considering that it was only achieved once one fully understood and internalized the intricacies of the Concept they comprehended.

Then again, compared to the first two requirements, the third requirement was deemed by many to be the most difficult to achieve. After all, meeting that requirement would practically guarantee one’s smooth ascension to the Divine level.

That requirement… was the creation of a False Celestial Realm.

Being the extremes of what a Domain could achieve, a False Celestial Realm made use of a Nascent Law to shape the foundation of what would eventually become a new world of its own.

However, with a Nascent Law being incomplete, the world that was made with its concepts as foundation would also turn out to be incomplete, hence the addition of the word ’False’ to its name.

After all, if the concept used to form a new world was an actual Law, then the new world would transform into a true Celestial Realm instead.

Though, with how difficult forming a False Celestial Realm actually was, the requirements needed to be recognized as an Ancient were constantly rewritten by Myths, which eventually resulted in the stratification of the Ancient level he and many players in his past life knew.

Just like the initial requirements, the first requirement for one to be considered an Ancient was to have a Legendary grade class.

However, that’s where all similarities between the old and current requirements ended.

As long as one had a Legendary grade class, as well as a control over a Stage 5 Concept, one would immediately be classified as an Ancient.

If one were to take their comprehension of the truths one step further and gain control over a Nascent Law, then one would be recognized as an Ancient Monarch instead.

And lastly, if one were to successfully form a False Celestial Realm with their Nascent Law, then one would be recognized by many as an Ancient Sovereign.

Though, as far as he knew, Ancient Sovereigns were also known by a great portion of the universe as Pseudo-Divine beings.

’I still have a long way to go before getting to that point,’ thought Ataraxia to himself after he was done, a faint bitter smile adorning his face not long after.

’Not to mention becoming an Ancient Sovereign, I haven’t even reached the Legend level yet.’

Thankfully, by the time the young man finished refreshing his understanding of the Ancient level, Aeramis had snapped back to reality, looking at the former with a slightly wry smile.

“Did you really have to be that direct?” the man asked him, to which the young man flashed a bitter smile in response.

Seeing the bitter smile on the latter’s face, Aeramis let out a low sigh as he faintly shook his head. “No matter. Whether I want to hear it or not, the fact still stands that the first trial’s limit is that low due to my lack of personal strength.”

“On the other hand, with your exemplary performance in this trial, I’m certain that it won’t take long until you reach levels of power that would be on par with what I can currently unleash.”

As these words left his mouth, the man looked at Ataraxia with faintly glistening eyes, his slight fawning gaze making it seem like he was pinning some of his hopes on the young man.

Though, once he saw that the young man only responded to his flattery with a faint smile, Aeramis immediately stopped what he was doing, understanding that his small attempt at flattery would not yield anything substantial.

With that in mind, the man began to transform the layout of the ground in front of them, swiftly causing the running tracks Ataraxia ran on during the first trial to disappear.

Whoosh!

Then, with a couple series of gestures, a different structure soon appeared where the running tracks previously stood, taking on the appearance of a massive box of unknown material.

“Since you’ve obtained the highest score possible in the first trial, we shall now proceed with the second trial,” said Aeramis, only to then lead the young man towards the sole entrance that would lead to the box’s interior.

Once inside the box, Ataraxia was immediately greeted by a sight that formed a sharp contrast to the forests that surrounded both him and Aeramis just moments earlier.

Unlike the rustic feel the running tracks gave off during the first round, the young man’s current surroundings were a mix of metallic gray and off-colored white in varying proportions.

Aside from that, there were also a couple of moments where a flash of red and blue would appear in his field of vision. Though, with how their current surroundings was mostly covered with various machines of varying sizes, the young man was forced to give up figuring out where those flashes were coming from.

“Compared to the first trial, the second trial is a bit more hands-on,” said Aeramis, utilizing a bit of his energy to move some of the machines to the side.

Once he had cleared enough space for him and the young man to freely move about, it was only then did the man continue with his explanation. “Back in the first trial, I mentioned that the first step I took towards achieving my goal was to focus on improving my speed.”

Ataraxia nodded at those words.

“However, I’m sure that with a bit of thinking, you’ll eventually come to realize that speed alone wouldn’t allow me to achieve my goal of exploring everything the world had to offer.”

“If anything, speed is one of the components I needed to have in order to achieve that goal.”

’Wait…’ As these words left the man’s mouth, the gears in Ataraxia’s mind began to turn as the brief flash of red and blue caused him to come up with an idea on what the second trial would be.

Fortunately, just as he was about to ask the man on what kind of trial he would have to face, the latter began to talk about the second trial in detail.

“If the first trial focused on improving speed…”

“Then the second trial focuses on improving maneuverability and stamina.”
