Chapter 38 - 39 Control your wife
Chapter 38: Chapter 39 Control your wife
Daisy was walking down the staircase.
She looked like a painting. Beautiful and breathtaking.
Cedric could not speak. He just stood rooted on his spot while looking at her.
His blue eyes were wide. His lips parted slightly. His hands hung limp at his sides.
Jenna turned to see what had stolen her son’s voice. Her eyes landed on Daisy, and her face twisted with anger.
Her lips pressed into a thin, bloodless line. Her nostrils flared. Her hands, which had been crossed over her chest, dropped to her sides and curled into fists. Her knuckles went white.
Daisy looked beautiful. More beautiful than Jenna had ever seen her. More beautiful than Jenna had ever wanted her to be.
Jenna’s jaw tightened. Her blue eyes burned with jealousy and rage.
Cedric finally found his voice. "Daisy... I..."
He stopped swallowed and tried again.
"You look..."
He could not finish.
Daisy reached the bottom of the stairs and stood in front of them. Her dark eyes moved from Cedric’s shocked face to Jenna’s furious one. She tucked a strand of caramel hair behind her ear and gave a small, nervous smile.
Jenna stepped forward. Her heels clicked against the floor like gunshots, sharp and angry.
Then she reached out and gripped Daisy’s chin.
Her fingers were cold and hard, digging into the soft skin, forcing Daisy’s face upward. Daisy’s eyes widened. Her breath caught in her throat. Her hands flew up but stopped before touching Jenna’s wrist.
"Dressed so seductively," Jenna hissed, her voice low and venomous. "I hope you did not seduce any men you met. I hope you did not parade around in this dress, batting your eyelashes at strangers, trying to lure them into your web."
Daisy shook her head frantically. Her caramel hair swayed across her shoulders. Her hands came up to gesture, to explain, to defend herself.
But Jenna’s grip tightened.
"Do not lie to me," Jenna spat. "I see what you are. I have always seen what you are. A snake. Hiding behind those big innocent eyes and that silent mouth."
Tears burned behind Daisy’s eyes. She could not speak. She could not explain. She could only shake her head, over and over, hoping Jenna would understand.
Cedric stood on the side. He watched. His hands were in his pockets. His jaw was tight. His blue eyes flickered from his mother’s face to Daisy’s face.
He did not say anything. He just stood there uselessly.
Daisy’s eyes found his. She searched his face for something. Help, protection, a single word in her defense.
Nothing.
His expression was unreadable. His lips were pressed into a thin line. He looked like a statue. Cold, motionless and indifferent.
Daisy’s heart cracked.
Jenna released her chin. Daisy stumbled back, one hand flying to her jaw. It would leave a bruise.
Jenna smoothed her dress and turned to Cedric.
"Control your wife," she said coldly. "Or I will."
She walked upstairs. Her heels clicked against the marble, each step echoing through the silent hallway.
Daisy’s eyes watered with tears, but she did not cry. She did not want to ruin her beautiful makeup.
Cedric took her to the venue.
It was a grand boutique by Royal Restaurant. A sprawling, elegant building with marble columns and golden lights spilling from every window. Valets in crisp uniforms stood at the entrance, taking keys from luxury cars that seemed to never end. The air smelled of expensive perfume and fresh flowers and something sweet from the restaurant kitchen.
The car stopped.
Cedric got out first. He walked around to Daisy’s side and opened the door for her. He extended his hand.
Daisy looked at his hand. Then at his face.
He was helping her. Being careful. Almost... caring.
She felt weird.
She did not like it.
It was not that she wanted him to be cruel. She had spent three years wishing for his kindness, dreaming of his touch, hoping he would someday look at her like she mattered but now that he was offering a small act of care, it felt wrong.
Daisy placed her hand in his. His fingers closed around hers. She stepped out of the car.
Her dress flowed around her legs. The lace on her neck caught the golden light.
Another car stopped behind them.
A sleek white sports car, low to the ground, gleaming under the lights. The engine purred like a wild animal.
The door opened, and out stepped none other than Jessica.
She was wearing a bold red dress.. Cut low in the front, high on the thigh. The fabric hugged every curve, leaving nothing to the imagination. Her red hair was loose, falling in wild waves past her shoulders, catching the light like fire. Her lips were painted a deep crimson.
She looked hot, bold and Confident.
Jessica’s eyes found Cedric. She smiled and winked at him.
"Baby," she called out, her voice sweet and playful. "You thought I was angry?"
She walked toward him, her hips swaying, her heels clicking against the pavement. Her red dress caught the light with every step.
Cedric’s eyes moved over her figure. His gaze was intense. His lips parted slightly.
"No," he said. The word came out subconsciously.
Jessica reached him and placed her hand on his chest. Her red nails curled into the fabric of his suit.
"Good," she whispered. "Let’s go."
Cedric looked at Daisy. His blue eyes hesitated.
Daisy felt a strange sense of deja vu. She felt she had lived this moment before.
Daisy smiled.
She gestured toward Jessica, then toward Cedric, then toward the entrance. She made a small motion with her hands.
Go. Together. I will be fine.
Jessica smirked. Her eyes glittered with victory.
Cedric nodded.
He turned and walked away with Jessica. His hand found the small of her back. Her red hair brushed against his shoulder.
They disappeared through the grand entrance.
Daisy stood alone on the sidewalk.
The valets looked at her with confusion. The guests walking past glanced at her with curiosity. A woman in a beautiful lavender dress, standing by herself, holding no invitation.
Daisy looked back.
The white sports car was empty. The valet was moving it toward the parking area.
The black car Cedric had arrived in was gone. The driver had pulled away.
She looked down at her phone. Her fingers trembled as she unlocked the screen.
What should she do?
