Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart

Chapter 183 Brithday Preparation

Chapter 183: Chapter 183 Brithday Preparation

Alessio looked up. "What?"

The man shifted slightly. "It’s possible we’re looking too deeply into this. Maybe the singer’s voice simply sounded similar to your sister’s voice. She could have had no connection to her at all."

The room became noticeably colder. The temperature seemed to drop as Alessio’s gaze settled on the investigator.

Alessio stared at him. "Do you have another lead?"

The investigator immediately went silent. "No, boss."

"Then don’t waste my time telling me why my theory might be wrong." His voice remained frighteningly calm. "I want facts."

"Yes, boss."

Alessio picked up the photograph again, his eyes settling on the blurred figure near the bridge. Something about this didn’t feel like coincidence. The timing, the secrecy, the way the records had been buried. It was too deliberate.

Grandpa James’s birthday celebration was being organized at the Evermont residence and by the morning itself, the entire house had already been transformed. The usually elegant but restrained halls were filled with fresh flowers, warm lights, beautifully arranged tables and countless little details that Jenna had personally insisted upon.

Guests from the Evermont family’s social and business circles had been invited, along with several old friends and relatives, so what had originally been intended as a simple family gathering had slowly turned into a rather grand affair.

Jenna loved everything grand. If something could be made bigger, prettier, more expensive or more impressive, she would find a way to do it.

Grandpa James, on the other hand, had wanted nothing more than a small gathering with the people closest to him. He had even mentioned several times that he didn’t need a huge celebration at his age and would be perfectly happy having dinner with his family, cutting a cake and spending the evening peacefully.

But whenever he saw the excitement on Jenna’s face as she discussed flowers, decorations, menus, guest lists and arrangements, he simply smiled and stopped arguing.

After all, it was his birthday. If making the occasion grand made his daughter-in-law happy, he could tolerate a little extravagance for one evening.

Besides, he didn’t have to organize anything himself. His only responsibilities were to sit comfortably, smile at everyone, accept the gifts people brought him, cut the cake and enjoy himself.

Thinking about that, the old man sat comfortably in his favorite chair and smiled to himself. "Not a bad job for a birthday boy," he murmured amusingly.

But among all the gifts he would receive that evening, there was one he was secretly looking forward to more than the others. Daisy’s.

His expression softened at the thought.

Daisy had always given him gifts that were strangely thoughtful. She never seemed interested in impressing him with expensive things or choosing something simply because it carried a famous name. She paid attention to little details, remembered things he mentioned casually and somehow managed to turn those small observations into gifts that made him feel genuinely understood.

Last year, she had remembered something he had casually complained about months earlier and found him the perfect little item for it. Another time, she had made something herself, and Grandpa James had proudly kept it instead of putting it away with the other presents.

Those gifts meant more to him than anything expensive.

He smiled again. "I wonder what my little Daisy has prepared this time."

He was already imagining her standing in front of him with that shy smile, waiting for his reaction. He couldn’t help feeling a little excited.

Perhaps everyone else would bring him watches, expensive bottles, luxury accessories, or other extravagant presents. But he already knew which gift he would open first when Daisy handed him hers. The one that came from her heart.

Daisy had spent almost the entire day overseeing the birthday preparations.

To be honest, it wasn’t something she enjoyed. She would have much rather stayed in the laboratory, surrounded by her notes and experiments, where she could communicate through writing without feeling as though every small instruction required twice the effort. But this was Grandpa James’s birthday, and that alone was enough to make her willingly take on the exhausting task.

She wanted everything to be perfect for him.

Throughout the day, Daisy moved from one part of the house to another, checking the decorations, the dining arrangements, the flowers, the lighting and the tables where the guests would eventually sit. Her steps were quick and purposeful, her eyes scanning every detail with careful attention. Whenever she noticed something that needed changing, she would quickly approach the workers and explain through gestures.

Sometimes, she would point toward something and demonstrate what she wanted with her hands. Other times, she would quickly type the instructions into her phone and show them the screen. And whenever someone finally understood what she meant, she would give them a grateful smile and move on to the next thing.

Still, it wasn’t always easy.

There were moments when a worker misunderstood her and she had to explain the same thing three or four times. At times, Daisy’s fingers would move impatiently as she tried to make her gestures clearer, and when even that failed, she would quietly pull out her phone and type everything down. Her frustration would build but she would force herself to stay calm.

She hated feeling helpless when she knew exactly what she wanted to say but couldn’t simply say it.

Yet she never gave up.

Because every time she looked at the decorations and imagined Grandpa James’s happy face seeing them, her frustration became easier to bear.

By late afternoon, the final arrangements were finally completed.

The house looked beautiful. Fresh flowers decorated the long dining table, warm lights glowed along the walls, and everything had been arranged with careful attention to detail. The staff moved around making their final checks while Daisy stood in the middle of the room, looking around tiredly. The soft glow of the lights reflected off the smooth glassy surfaces, and the scent of fresh blooms filled the air.

For a few seconds, she simply stood there. Her feet hurt. Her shoulders ached. Her head felt heavy and tired after an entire day of running around. She hadn’t realized how exhausted she was until everything was finally finished.

Daisy slowly exhaled. She needed to freshen up. She still had to change her clothes, fix her hair and get ready before the guests arrived.

She had barely taken a few steps toward the stairs when a sharp voice suddenly came from behind her.

"Oh, you’re still not ready?!"
