Chapter 145 Idiot
Chapter 145: Chapter 145 Idiot
Rafael stared at his older brother. "...Are you serious?"
Alessio looked completely serious. "I don’t need a doctor."
"You have a fever!"
"I’ll sleep. It’ll go away."
Rafael’s eye twitched.
The doctor tried once more. "It will only take a minute."
Alessio calmly leaned away before the thermometer could touch him.
"No."
Rafael looked between the doctor and his brother. Then back again. He suddenly felt like he wasn’t dealing with the terrifying head of the Ricci family anymore. He was dealing with an unbelievably stubborn child.
"...Bro. What? Are you five years old?"
Alessio slowly turned his head toward him. "...No."
"Really?" Rafael folded his arms. "Because you’re acting exactly like a kid who doesn’t want an injection."
"I don’t need one."
"The doctor hasn’t even mentioned an injection!"
"..."
"...See? You assumed it yourself."
The family doctor couldn’t help coughing awkwardly to hide a smile. He had treated many powerful men in his career but this was the first time he had seen one of them refuse a simple temperature check like a stubborn child.
Rafael let out an exaggerated sigh and threw both hands into the air.
"Fine! Be sick! See if I care!"
He turned around dramatically and stormed out of the room.
Bang!
The door closed behind him.
Silence returned.
Alessio looked at the closed door for a few seconds before letting out a quiet breath.
Finally... peace.
He leaned his head back against the sofa and closed his eyes.
Outside the room...
Rafael walked several steps down the hallway before stopping.
The irritation on his face disappeared almost instantly. He rubbed his forehead helplessly.
"...That idiot."
He wasn’t actually angry. He was worried. Very worried.
Thinking for a moment, he suddenly took out his phone.
A name immediately came to his mind.
Daisy.
For some reason... his brother actually listened to her sometimes. At least more than he listened to anyone else.
Without wasting another second, Rafael called her.
The phone rang several times.
No answer.
Oh right...
He remembered she couldn’t speak on the phone.
A second later... his phone vibrated.
A text message appeared.
Daisy: Yes? Go on.
Rafael immediately smiled and began typing.
Rafael: Daisy, it’s Rafael. I need your help.
Three dots appeared almost instantly.
Daisy: What happened?
Rafael sighed before replying.
Rafael: My big brother has a high fever.
Rafael: But he’s behaving like a stubborn child.
Rafael: He thinks the doctor is going to give him an injection, so he’s refusing to let the poor man even check his temperature.
He paused before typing one last message.
Rafael: Can you please help me convince him? I’m genuinely worried about him.
On the other side of the screen, Daisy frowned.
A fever...?
Without realizing it, concern filled her eyes.
Daisy stared at Rafael’s messages for a few moments.
She wasn’t sure why he was asking her. After all, would Alessio really listen to her? They had grown closer over the past few weeks, but she was still just a new friend. She wasn’t family. She wasn’t someone who had the right to interfere in his personal life.
But Rafael had sounded genuinely worried. She had never heard that tone from him before.
She slowly typed a reply.
Daisy: What can I do?
Rafael’s eyes immediately lit up when he read the message. He quickly began typing, his fingers moving fast across the screen.
Rafael: Can you come here?
A second later, another message popped up.
Rafael: Pretty please?
Then another.
Rafael: I think he’ll be less stubborn if you’re the one asking. He’s refusing to let anyone near him.
Daisy read the messages twice. Her eyes focused on the words, her mind turning them over.
She hesitated. Going to someone’s house, especially her boss’s house, didn’t seem appropriate. She barely knew Alessio outside of work. What if she was overstepping? What if he didn’t want her there? What if she made things awkward?
Her fingers hovered over the keyboard.
But then she remembered the way Alessio had looked after the fight with Cedric. The small wound on his arm. The way he had brushed it off like it was nothing, the way he had smiled at her message and told her not to worry. Now he had a fever. What if it became worse because he refused treatment?
She bit her lower lip. After nearly a minute, she finally replied.
Daisy: Okay.
Rafael almost sighed in relief. He had been holding his breath, waiting for her answer and the moment he saw her reply, his shoulders relaxed.
Rafael: Thank you!
Rafael: I’ll send you the address.
A location pin appeared on her screen a few seconds later.
Rafael: Just come after work. Don’t rush.
Rafael: And thank you again.
Daisy smiled faintly. There was something endearing about the way Rafael cared for his brother, even when he pretended to be annoyed.
Daisy: I’ll come.
She slipped her phone back into her pocket just as the small break ended.
For the rest of the afternoon, she worked as usual but every now and then, her thoughts drifted to Alessio. She couldn’t imagine him refusing to let a doctor check his temperature. It didn’t seem like him. Yet Rafael had sounded genuinely worried and if there was one thing she had learned about Alessio, it was that he didn’t easily show weakness. If he was refusing help, it meant he was trying to hide how bad he really felt.
When the workday finally ended, Daisy changed out of her lab coat, packed her bag and said goodbye to Ace and Mona.
Ace waved at her cheerfully. "See you tomorrow!"
Daisy smiled and waved back before leaving the building.
Outside, the evening air was pleasantly cool. The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. She took out her phone, booked a taxi using the address Rafael had sent her and quietly waited by the roadside.
A few minutes later, the taxi arrived. The driver rolled down the window.
"Miss Daisy?"
She nodded with a smile and got into the back seat.
As the car pulled away from the laboratory, she looked down at the address on her phone once more.
She couldn’t help feeling a little nervous. This would be the first time she was visiting Alessio’s home...
