Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart

Chapter 137 She’s worried about me

Chapter 137: Chapter 137 She’s worried about me

Alessio didn’t react immediately. His phone often buzzed with reports from his companies, security updates or messages from his brothers.

Without much interest, he glanced down at the screen.

The moment he saw the sender, his eyes softened almost imperceptibly.

Daisy.

His full attention shifted away from the basement. He unlocked the screen.

Daisy: I am sorry... I didn’t know he would be there and cause a scene... and even fight with you. I hope you’re not injured... He was too much.

Alessio read the message once. Then again.

A faint smile slowly appeared on his face. It wasn’t a large smile. Just enough to soften his usually sharp features.

His men exchanged confused glances.

Boss... smiled?

No one dared say it aloud.

Meanwhile, Alessio wasn’t even aware he was smiling.

She’s worried about me...

The thought settled warmly in his chest. His thumb gently brushed over the screen.

"...Silly girl."

Another sentence caught his attention. He was too much.

His smile widened ever so slightly.

"So... you think he was unreasonable too."

For some inexplicable reason that pleased him.

Without another word, he walked away from the interrogation and toward the far corner of the basement, where a narrow window allowed a beam of daylight to spill across the concrete floor.

One of his guards blinked in disbelief. "Boss?"

Alessio ignored him.

He rolled up the sleeve of his black shirt. A shallow cut stretched across his forearm where Cedric’s ring had scraped him during the fight. It wasn’t serious. Barely worth noticing.

Still, he took a quick photograph.

A few seconds later, he sent it.

Almost immediately—

Ding.

Her reply arrived.

Daisy: Sooorrry...

The three drawn-out letters made him imagine her guilty little expression, apologizing over and over with those large, expressive eyes. He could picture her biting her lower lip, her brows furrowed with worry.

His smile became gentler.

"You didn’t do anything wrong," he murmured quietly.

Across the room, his men stared openly now.

One of them leaned toward another and whispered, "...Did Boss just... smile twice?"

"I value my life. So I’m pretending I didn’t see anything."

Neither of them noticed the corners of Alessio’s lips lifting just a little more.

Then, his expression gradually returned to normal. His thoughts drifted back to Cedric. The smile on his face disappeared. His green eyes grew colder.

That fool.

The more Alessio thought about last night, the angrier he became. Cedric had humiliated Daisy in public. Made her cry. Pushed her to the floor. Then dragged her away as though she were a possession instead of a person.

His jaw tightened.

That man doesn’t deserve her. Not even a little.

He was hoping she would fall out of love with that prick. That disgusting a*s man didn’t deserve her at all. Not her kindness, not her patience and definitely not the gentle way she looked at people, as though she could see the good in anyone, even someone as worthless as Cedric Evermont.

After Cedric fought with him, Alessio had been thinking about taking revenge on that foolish man. His fists still remembered the impact of landing blows on Cedric’s face, the satisfaction of watching him stumble back. But that was just physical. That was temporary. That was nothing compared to what he really wanted.

And nothing was better than ruining his image in Daisy’s eyes, which could lead to divorce.

Thinking about their divorce, a slow smirk appeared on his face. It wasn’t a kind smile. It was cold, calculating and satisfied.

He looked down at his phone once more, at her message and his expression softened again.

Sooorrry...

He could almost hear her voice in his head. Sweet, gentle, apologetic for something that wasn’t even her fault.

He typed a reply.

Alessio: Don’t apologize. It’s not your fault. Take care of yourself.

He paused, then added:

Alessio: And if you ever need help... You can always massage me.

He sent the message and slipped the phone back into his pocket.

The basement suddenly felt darker again. The coldness returned to his eyes. He turned back toward the interrogation.

"Continue," he said.

Daisy felt a little lighter after seeing Alessio’s reply.

His message had been simple. He wasn’t angry. He hadn’t blamed her. More importantly, he seemed fine.

She quietly let out the breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding.

A faint smile appeared on her face.

But it disappeared just as quickly.

Her thoughts drifted back to Cedric’s words at breakfast.

"Be ready by ten o’clock. My room."

Her fingers tightened around her phone.

Why? What did he want to talk about? The more she thought about it, the more anxious she became. Was he still angry? Did he want to question her about Alessio again? Or had something else happened?

She bit her lower lip. Her stomach twisted into a knot.

After sitting there worrying for several minutes, Daisy gently shook her head.

Thinking won’t solve anything.

She reached for her laboratory notebook lying on the desk. If she couldn’t stop worrying, she could at least distract herself. She flipped through several pages filled with handwritten formulas, testing observations and perfume compositions.

Soon, her pencil began moving across the paper as she compared stability reports with the latest test results. The familiar scratch of graphite against paper soothed her restless mind. Numbers, percentages and chemical structures replaced anxious thoughts.

Little by little, her breathing steadied. Whenever she focused on work, the rest of the world seemed to fade away. The anxiety that had been gnawing at her chest slowly loosened its grip.

Just then—

Buzzzzzz.

Her phone vibrated again. She glanced at the screen.

A new message from Alessio. Her curiosity immediately replaced her anxiety.

She opened the chat.

Alessio: I still have your shopping bags.

A second message arrived almost instantly.

Several photographs appeared below. The pictures showed the passenger seat of his car. Her shopping bags were neatly arranged there. Another photo followed. This time, they had been placed carefully on the bed in what looked like a guest room. Not a single bag had been opened. Everything was exactly as she had left it.
