Chapter 116 What exactly was wrong with this man?

Chapter 116: Chapter 116 What exactly was wrong with this man?

Daisy looked at the tiny space Cedric had left for her on the bed.

Then she looked at him.

Then back at the bed.

No. Absolutely not.

She was already exhausted, and squeezing onto that tiny mattress beside him was the last thing she wanted. Her body ached, her eyelids were heavy and all she wanted was a peaceful night’s sleep in a bed that was actually big enough for her. The thought of lying next to him made her skin prickle with discomfort.

Taking a deep breath, she reached out and gently shook his shoulder again.

Cedric...

He cracked one eye open with obvious annoyance. "What now?"

Daisy immediately began gesturing as slowly and clearly as she possibly could. She pointed at herself, then pointed toward the door. After that, she mimed sleeping by placing both palms beneath her cheek. Finally, she pointed toward the direction of his bedroom, then toward the guest rooms.

Can I sleep in your room? Or one of the guest rooms?

She deliberately exaggerated every movement, her hands moving with theatrical clarity.

Please understand. Please. I’m too tired to explain this again.

Cedric stared at her blankly.

Daisy waited. He kept staring. She resisted the urge to sigh.

Come on... You can do it...

She repeated the gestures again. Even slower. This time she practically acted them out, her whole body participating in the performance.

Me. Go. Sleep. Guest room. Your room. Anywhere. Just not here.

Cedric suddenly snapped his fingers. "Oh." Understanding finally dawned on his face, though it looked like it had taken considerable effort. "Alright..."

He yawned lazily, his jaw cracking with the movement. "Alright." He waved his hand dismissively, his tone sounding almost generous. "You can go."

Daisy’s eyes immediately sparkled.

Finally!

She smiled brightly and gave him a quick thankful nod before hurrying toward the wardrobe. She grabbed her soft pajamas, a fresh towel, and her toiletries before quietly leaving the room. Her steps were quick, almost skipping with relief.

Finally... Peace.

She didn’t want to sleep in Cedric’s bedroom. It felt strange and personal, like invading a space that wasn’t hers. The thought of lying in his sheets, surrounded by his scent, made her uncomfortable in ways she couldn’t explain.

So instead, she chose one of the nearby guest rooms.

It was spacious, beautifully decorated and most importantly, empty. Perfect.

She happily walked inside, locked the door and headed straight for the bathroom. The guest bathroom was luxurious, with a deep bathtub and soft lighting. She turned on the shower and let the hot water cascade over her tired body.

A warm shower later, every bit of exhaustion seemed to melt away. The hot water soothed her aching muscles and the steam filled the room like a soft cloud. She stood there for a long moment, letting the heat wash away the tension from her shoulders, the worry from her mind.

She changed into her oversized cotton pajamas, the fabric soft and familiar against her skin. She dried her hair with a towel, rubbing the strands until they were damp but no longer dripping and let out a content little sigh.

"So comfortable..."

She smiled to herself.

Tonight, she was finally going to get a peaceful night’s sleep.

She switched off the bathroom light and happily walked toward the bed. She even bounced forward a little in anticipation, her toes curling against the soft carpet.

Then she froze. Her smile slowly disappeared.

Someone was already lying on the bed.

Cedric.

He was comfortably stretched across the mattress with one arm behind his head, looking completely relaxed. As though this had been his room all along. The blanket was pulled up to his waist and his bare chest was visible in the dim light.

The moment he saw Daisy standing there frozen in disbelief, the corner of his lips slowly lifted into an infuriating smirk.

"...You’re here."

Daisy’s eyes widened so much they looked ready to pop out. Her jaw dropped. Her arms fell limp at her sides. She looked at him, then at the empty doorway, then back at him again.

...How? When?! Didn’t you stay in my room?!

Her brain completely stopped working. She opened her mouth, closed it, opened it again. No sound came out. Not that it ever did but the gesture felt necessary.

Cedric looked far too pleased with himself. "I knew you’d come here." He sounded absurdly confident like he had won some kind of game. "So I came first."

Daisy stood there in stunned silence. A tiny vein almost popped on her forehead.

She genuinely wanted to throw a pillow at someone’s face.

What exactly was wrong with this man?

She slowly pointed at him, then at the bed, then at herself. Finally, she crossed both arms firmly in front of her chest.

No.

Cedric lazily propped himself up on one elbow, watching her little performance with growing amusement. "What?"

Daisy let out a silent puff of air through her nose. She pointed toward the hallway, then toward another room, then spread both hands.

There are so many bedrooms in this mansion! Why are you following me?

Cedric watched her exaggerated gestures for a few seconds before a chuckle escaped him. "So that’s what you’re trying to say."

Daisy immediately nodded.

Yes! Exactly!

She pointed toward herself again, then clasped both hands beneath her cheek, pretending to sleep. Finally, she pointed away from herself.

I just want to sleep peacefully!

Cedric couldn’t help finding her increasingly dramatic gestures entertaining. The more annoyed she became, the cuter she looked. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes were wide and the way she stomped her foot silently made him want to laugh out loud.

He sat up completely before folding his arms across his chest. "Well..."

He tilted his head slightly, enjoying the way she was glaring at him. "You see... This is my house." He gestured around the luxurious guest room with casual arrogance. "I can sleep anywhere I want." He spoke as though his argument was perfectly reasonable. "So... if I want to sleep here... I’ll sleep here."

He finished with complete confidence.

Daisy stared at him.

Her lips parted slightly.

For several long seconds, she simply looked at him. Then she slowly lowered her head, closed her eyes and took one very deep breath. The kind of breath that was meant to calm a person down before they did something they might regret.

Cedric watched her with obvious amusement. "What?"
