Chapter 114: Chapter 114 Can I go home?
Daisy wasn’t much of a drinker.
Fortunately, she had taken only a few small sips. She wasn’t drunk. Not really. Still, her cheeks felt pleasantly warm and her eyelids had become unusually heavy. The warmth spread through her body like a gentle blanket, making her feel soft and slightly disconnected from the world around her.
She blinked several times, trying to stay alert.
Why am I so sleepy...?
Maybe this was why people said alcohol made them drowsy. She had never understood it before but now she was starting to get the idea.
She quietly rubbed her eyes before looking around the table. Everyone was still talking excitedly, their voices overlapping in a cheerful symphony. Ace and Mona were arguing over which fragrance family was the most difficult to formulate, their debate growing more animated with each passing moment. Ashley and the others laughed at Ace’s overly dramatic explanations, their faces flushed with wine and happiness.
No one seemed ready to leave anytime soon.
Daisy slowly picked up her bag. She gently tapped Ace’s shoulder.
Ace turned toward her. "Hm?"
Daisy raised her hands.
Can I go home?
She pointed toward the door before resting her cheek against both palms, making a sleeping gesture. Her movements were slower than usual, a little clumsy from the warmth in her head.
Ace misunderstood immediately. "Oh! You need to use the washroom?" He pointed toward the hallway. "It’s that way."
Daisy blinked. She quickly shook her head, then pointed outside before pretending to wave goodbye, her hand moving in a slow, exaggerated arc.
Realization finally crossed Ace’s face. "Oh... you mean you’re leaving?"
Daisy nodded with a small smile.
Ace looked at the time. It was already quite late, and the team had been celebrating for hours. "Alright," he said gently. "Go home safely. I’ll message you tomorrow."
Daisy smiled gratefully. She gave everyone a small bow, her movements slightly unsteady. Most of them were too busy talking to notice, though Mona looked up just in time to wave enthusiastically.
"Good night, Daisy!"
Daisy waved back before quietly slipping out of the private dining room.

The cool night air greeted her the moment she stepped outside.
She took a deep breath, and the warmth in her cheeks eased slightly. The city looked beautiful at night. Streetlights stretched along the roads like glowing ribbons, casting long golden pools of light across the pavement. The air was cool and fresh, carrying the faint scent of flowers from a nearby garden.
There were still people walking along the sidewalks despite the late hour, their footsteps echoing softly in the night. A few couples strolled hand in hand, their laughter drifting through the air like music. Cars drove past in the distance, their headlights cutting through the darkness.
Daisy adjusted the strap of her handbag and took out her phone. She booked a taxi, her fingers moving slowly across the screen. The application showed it would arrive in about four minutes.
She quietly walked toward the designated pickup point near the roadside and waited patiently. Her eyelids still felt heavy. She yawned softly behind her hand, her body swaying slightly.
She couldn’t wait to get home, take a warm shower, and crawl into bed.
She never noticed that another person had quietly left the restaurant a minute after her.
Mr. Higgins.
Standing just inside the restaurant entrance, he had watched Daisy leave alone. His small eyes tracked her movements, noting the slight unsteadiness in her steps, the way she blinked slowly. A slow smile spread across his face.
So she left by herself...
His eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
Without attracting anyone’s attention, he walked toward the parking area, unlocked his car, and slowly drove out. His movements were unhurried and confident, like a predator who had all the time in the world.
A few moments later, Daisy heard the sound of a car approaching. She looked up absentmindedly, her mind still clouded with sleepiness.
A white car slowed before stopping beside her. The driver’s window rolled down.
Mr. Higgins smiled warmly, his expression perfectly pleasant. "Daisy."
He leaned one arm casually against the window, his posture relaxed.
"Going home alone?" His voice sounded friendly and almost fatherly. "Come. I’ll drop you home."
Daisy’s eyes widened slightly. She immediately shook her head politely, her movements quick despite her drowsiness. Then she lifted her phone, showing him the taxi booking screen. My taxi is already on the way.
Mr. Higgins chuckled, a low, smooth sound. "A taxi? At this hour?" He glanced at the nearly empty road before looking back at her, his eyes lingering on her face. "You work in my department. It would be irresponsible of me to let one of my employees go home alone at night."
His smile never faded. "I insist."
Daisy shook her head once again, more firmly this time. She bowed slightly, trying to thank him while refusing as politely as possible.
Mr. Higgins’s smile stiffened for the briefest moment. Then it returned, though there was something different about it now. "It’s alright. I don’t mind."
He unlocked the passenger door with a click. "Come on. I’ll have you home much faster than any taxi."
Daisy remained where she was. She tightened her grip around her handbag, her knuckles turning white. Something inside her didn’t feel right. Her instincts, dulled by the wine, were still strong enough to sense the wrongness in his persistence.
She smiled politely once more before gesturing, Thank you... but I’ll wait for my taxi.
Mr. Higgins’s fingers tightened almost imperceptibly around the steering wheel. His smile remained exactly the same but his eyes had grown noticeably darker.
Fortunately, before Mr. Higgins could say anything else, a taxi slowly pulled up to the curb. The headlights briefly illuminated the street before the vehicle came to a smooth stop in front of Daisy.
Her eyes immediately brightened with relief. She looked at the license plate. It matched the one shown on her phone. Her taxi had arrived.
Without wasting another second, Daisy looked back at Mr. Higgins and gave him a small, polite bow. Then she waved goodbye with a gentle smile.
Thank you.
It was a simple gesture of courtesy. Before he could persuade her again, she quickly opened the taxi door and climbed inside.
Only after sitting down did she finally let out the breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding. The door closed with a soft click and she finally felt at ease.
Then she noticed the person behind the steering wheel. It was a woman in her forties, wearing a neat blue uniform. She smiled warmly through the rearview mirror.
"Good evening."
Daisy blinked before returning the smile. For some reason, the last bit of uneasiness inside her quietly disappeared. She had always felt more comfortable around women. Especially tonight.
She fastened her seat belt and settled back against the seat, her tense shoulders finally relaxing.
