Chapter 1509 1509: Veyl
Chapter 1509 1509: Veyl
The first thing that Arthur felt was his body hovering from the ground. Then, his vision returned, but it was different from how he saw the world. The entire world was the same color, but to varying degrees. Everything had a different shade of gold, and he realized it was the power of creation behind them.
Arthur looked down at his body and saw that his hands, alongside the rest of his body, had turned matte black. The sole exception was his chest, which had a white circle surrounding the gem, which had also turned black.
"Arthur?" he heard Diana call for him, and he turned to look at her. Arthur saw her as a blazing figure of life, creation, with red, blue, and gold intertwined together. He was mesmerized.
"How long have I been out for?" he asked after regaining his focus.
"Less than a minute," she said with confusion. "Are you… alright?"
"I am," he said, but felt his voice was colder than he liked, as if speaking to a stranger. Arthur realized it was the effect of his new life form on him. His own emotions were like a distant memory, replaced with a constant roaring of his wrath.
Arthur felt different, however, than before his reawakening. The wrath was there, but it didn't have a solid grasp over him like it did before. The difference was his own body.
"Can you create a mirror for me?" he asked Diana, who nodded. Another wave and a mirror appeared in front of him. Arthur got to see himself in this new form.
He was anything but a human anymore. His entire body was pitch black, but he could see swirling stars within it. It was as if someone ripped out the night sky and painted Arthur with it.
The sole exception was his chest and hair. The former had a white circle where the black gem was embedded. Arthur felt that the white circle was more than just an aesthetic, as if it kept the wrath at bay. His hair had turned fully white.
His sclera, which should have been white, had turned black. His eyes, however, were still golden, as if they refused to be changed by wrath.
Arthur was still humanoid, but what made him realize he wasn't human was the circle of light behind his back. It was a circle with seven nodes behind him, and he had a feeling that each node represented one of his seven stages of wrath.
Furthermore, he was not touching the ground but hovering a few inches from it. Arthur tried to descend, but when he did, the ground parted ways. It felt as if the world refused to be touched by him, lest it get obliterated.
"You should check the changes in the legacy," Diana said. Arthur agreed and opened the legacy again, noting what changes had occurred after he transformed.
[Name: Arthur Netherborne.]
[Titles: Twinborn, Ruthless.]
[Soul Level: 6.]
[Form Level: 1.]
[Race: Veyl.]
[Class: Architect of Dusk.]
[Ichor: 10/10.]
[Body: 6.]
[Mind: 6.]
[Insight: 6.]
[Spirit: —]
[Ichor Points: 3.]
Arthur noticed that the only noticeable changes in his Self were his race and class. A Veyl should be whatever he was at the moment, while the Architect of Dusk simply meant that it was the opposite of his own class, allowing him to erase things rather than create them.
After confirming that Arthur indeed had a different form with a different class, it raised a single question: does that mean he can level up both forms? The legacy hinted that he could, and if he could obtain an ichor point for each level up for both forms, that would mean his leveling speed would double.
Arthur decided to open his next menu, which was the Path. His old tree was now dim, and the tree next to it came to life. Similar to before, he had a single power slot that he could activate, and it was at the top of the tree.
[Veil of Oblivion] — [1 Ichor Point]
[Veil of Oblivion: Your eyes now erase the truth. With a glance, you can shroud knowledge, memories, or information from existence. What you look upon becomes hidden from all minds, even the universe's own records. This power cannot be upgraded.]
It was interesting to see a power that was the exact opposite of his Omniscient Eyes. However, this would be helpful since Arthur no longer needed to sever a connection in order to hide something. Instead, he could just look at it and it would be hidden from the gods.
Arthur himself suspected that he had been hidden from the gods because of his wrath, as wrath was simply another name for oblivion. His own wrath had protected him from being found, as everything related to him was shrouded.
The other three menus were similar to his other form, but Arthur noted that he was more in tune with the Black Hole in the Cosmos in this current form than the others. As for the Future and Glory menus, they were exactly the same.
After learning about his current situation, Arthur no longer felt the need to remain in this form. However, the hellish experience deterred him from transforming again, so he wanted to use everything. He tried to summon wrath in this form, and he succeeded. However, the power was far more stable in his current form than he had ever controlled it in his past one.
The beam of light seemed to seal the light around him. Diana looked at it with apprehension, as it could eradicate all life it touched. All living beings, or existence itself, would dread the beam of black light.
Nameless was not true oblivion, but a twisted imitation. It corrupted existence and brought death to the world in order for the gods to devour the souls and runes on it.
Death was a part of creation, Arthur realized as he stared at the darkness surrounding him. He was not a bringer of death, but of oblivion. He could erase death, but death could not erase him.
Arthur realized that nothing more could be done in his current form, and he was beginning to see the worry in Diana's eyes. He began transforming back, but asked Diana to count the exact time his transformation took.
After another hellish experience, Arthur was spent and collapsed on the ground. His body was in peak condition, and his spiritual energy wasn't wasted in the slightest. However, his mind was tired from the pain.
He did note, however, that the second transformation hurt less than the first, and hoped that he was growing a tolerance to the process. Diana told him that his transformation had taken almost a hundred seconds to finish.
"I guess I can't use it in the middle of battle," Arthur said with a frown. "But I feel like I can improve. If I can guide the powers that are transforming me, then I can accelerate the process or slow it down."
"I doubt that comes without a price," Diana said as she helped him stand and sit in the chair she had created. "I think that accelerating it will be more painful."
"The pain is no issue," he said with a wave of his hand.
"Arthur…" she said with worry. Arthur almost slapped himself for saying that, since she was clearly worried about this new transformation of his. He forced himself to smile as he pulled her to sit in his lap.
He couldn't believe how light she felt while sitting on his leg. It could be his new transformed body was stronger, but he knew it was more about the woman in front of him being so delicate, like a snowflake.
"I'll be more than fine," he said with a smile. "Don't worry about me. This new transformation is clearly one meant to let me handle the two opposing powers inside me. As you have already seen, I felt no anger while manipulating wrath, something that's a first."
Diana nodded with a sullen expression. Arthur pushed her blonde hair back behind her ear as he planted a kiss on her cheek. She blushed slightly and glared at him.
"I am a warrior at heart," he said. "Battles will harden me and empower me instead of anything else. As you already know, I'm heading to fight against the gods in just a few hours. I need all the strength I can get."
"I still feel like I should come with you," she said. "I don't want us to separate again. It feels like the moment you are out of my sight, something bad is going to happen."
Arthur smiled and didn't tell her that was just a symptom of anxiety instead of a real prophecy. He hugged her tight, seeking to calm her worry.
The two of them spent the next few hours enjoying each other's company. Arthur helped Diana create a garden behind their house. The soil was rich, and they had enough seeds and plants in their storage to plant.
A single wave of his hand turned the small garden into a mesmerizing display of colors and scents. After this last gift, Arthur was ready to embark toward the Divine Trial.
