Chapter 49: KILLING ME SLOWLY
Chapter 49: KILLING ME SLOWLY
TRISTAN
I didn’t realize how much of a she-devil she was until she pulled that move back in my office.
The way she kissed me and blew my mind to smitherings...the way she slapped me when I gripped my waist and tried to take more.
A fucking seductress. That’s who she was. I knew she had it in her...I just didn’t expect her to slip into that character without warning. She was killing me slowly and she did not even realize it.
She knew what she was doing, true. She knew how much she was tormenting me, but she did not know how much I was losing my mind over her.
That kiss against my throat. It took everything in me to not let out an animalistic growl and jump her, rip her clothes to shreds. Just the feel of her lips and I almost lost control...I almost came undone.
That was how much I wanted her.
This was becoming more than a headache. It was becoming unbearable. I honestly couldn’t tell how much I could last without having her the way I wanted...the way I dreamt about...the way I fantasized about...the way I missed so badly.
Would it be possible to reach a harmless agreement with her? No strings attached?
God, you’re such a dick, Tristan.
But this obsession with Laura...was it really just sexual?
I was beginning to worry it was more than that, despite how much I tried to convince myself that it wasn’t. Because how in hell could she still affect me this much after five whole years?
That’s a long time to stay fixated on one woman. A long time, enough for me to get married to Madison. But somehow...I didn’t. I’d been putting off the marriage without actually stopping to consider why.
I stepped on the gas at a red light and let my gaze stray past the windshield at nothing. I was just confused and painfully turned on.
I might have to deal with a lot of hard-ons moving forward, because now, I’d decided I was going to let Laura take the wheels...drive me crazy for as long as she wished..for as long as would satisfy her.
It wouldn’t be an easy trick, but I believed it had the potential to be more rewarding.
Besides, I didn’t want to ruin a business relationship that was just beginning to kick off. Crossing boundaries was usually not something I lost sleep over. I did whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. But with her...I’d have to be careful. Because I knew. She wasn’t the same woman who was unfairly dismissed from my company years back.
When I got home and saw Madison, the euphoric memories evaporated and were quickly replaced by displeasure. Why was she still at my place, again?
Why did she keep trespassing? We were not married yet, for goodness’ sake!
"Hey." She didn’t lift her gaze from her phone when I walked into the living room and went straight up the stairs.
"Why are you here?"
"You might want to stop asking that particular question. We’re getting married in less than a month. I’m more or less a part of your life already."
I paused on the stairs and glared at her. "That does not answer my question."
She finally lifted her head and folded her arms across her chest. "Do you have to stay late at the office? Our wedding is coming up, you know. You can’t have stress wrinkles before then."
I shook my head in disbelief. "Is that why you’re here?"
She heaved an exasperated sigh and glanced at her wristwatch. "Whatever. They should be here right about this minute."
Just as the words left her lips, the doorbell rang and my gaze drifted to the door. Who could it be?
Madison flounced towards it, swaying her hips in a ridiculous manner. "Expecting someone?" I called as she reached for the handle.
She whirled and flashed me a sweet smile. "Something like that."
It would be absurd if she actually invited someone to my private penthouse, without my consent. That would be really stepping over the line and I wasn’t sure if I could control my rage.
I watched as she opened the door and stepped aside, ushering in two men in ridiculously colorful outfits and haircuts.
"Welcome, welcome," Madison greeted them with the same sugary smile and slammed the door shut behind her. "This way." She ushered them to my couches, and that was when she eventually turned to me.
"Honey, they are the designers in charge of your wedding outfits. I’ve brought them to take your measurements since you’re too busy to stop by their office. Do you mind?" She jerked her head, signaling me to join them downstairs.
Meanwhile, my chest was almost exploding with rage. How dare she do a thing like this? Who said she could trespass to this extent? Bringing a couple strangers over to my house all in the name of a stupid wedding?
I scoffed and turned on my heels. Completely ignoring her seemed to be the best I could handle now. I couldn’t overreact, because the reputation of my company was at stake, and Madison was such a daddy’s spoilt brat who always ran to him at every fucking convenience.
"Tristan, come on!" She came up the stairs after me, chasing me into the hallway. "You can’t keep avoiding this!"
I whirled on her, control slipping. "And you can’t just decide our wedding preparations on your own!"
"What am I supposed to do when you don’t seem willing to join in? Do I sit back and watch you delay it over and over again?! I’ve had enough, you know?!"
I glared at her, breathing hard. "You’ve had enough?" How could she say that? If anyone would have the luxury of having enough in this fucking relationship, that would be me. "If you’ve had enough, why don’t you—"
"Oh don’t, Tristan! Over my dead body!"
I frowned, stepping closer to her. "What?"
"You want me out if I’ve had enough?" She scoffed. "That’s it, huh? It’s never happening. I’ve staked too much on this marriage, Tristan. Given too much, taken too much, worked too hard. I’m not letting go easily, try as much as you want. You might want to pull in your best game to beat me."
"What the fuck are you talking about? You think if I decide to call off this wedding you’re so crazy about, you can actually stop me?"
"Not me." Her eyes flashed as she flipped her phone screen. She was recording our conversation. "I know someone who’s more capable." She got in my face so I could feel the hotness of her rage. "Don’t you dare play me, Tristan. Or you’ll be forcing my hand. I’d hate to send something like this to my father. He would hate to hear his future son-in-law say things like this. You need him, remember? So behave."
My jaw ticked terribly. I wanted so badly to snatch the phone from her fingers and crush it to pieces beneath my feet. But I had to think twice about my actions.
She was Madison Steele, after all. I couldn’t forget that.
"Now," she flicked her hair behind her and smiled sweetly, like she didn’t just bare her monstrosity. "How long should your designers have to wait?"
