Chapter 2695: A Mess
Chapter 2695: A Mess
No words could describe the intensity of Pei Mianman’s feelings. She'd just been giving it a try, but who could have expected Yun Jianyue to admit to it?
So I am a fool! Chuyan noticed it from so far away, yet I didn’t realize a thing at all despite being right by Ah Zu’s side!
To add insult to injury, Yun Jianyue is my older cousin! But I didn’t sense a thing at all!
That darned Ah Zu! He’s already with Yun Jianyue and Yan Xuehen, but he didn’t utter a word and let them fight it out!
You have successfully trolled Pei Mianman for +666... +666... +666...
She forced a smile and said, “Cousin, don’t underestimate a woman’s sixth sense.”
She was rational enough to not reveal that she'd heard it from Chuyan, or else the other party would surely blow up. She hesitantly continued, “Does Honglei already know about this?”
Yun Jianyue looked awkward for a brief moment before replying with a subtle “Mm.”
Pei Mianman was stunned yet again. A while later, she sighed and said, “The two of you must be close.” How can you not be close? You’re already close enough to share a man!
However, after having spent so much time with Qiu Honglei, she couldn’t say that she was surprised to hear that answer. She knew how much Yun Jianyue meant to Qiu Honglei.
But that only made her more stifled. So I’m the only one kept in the dark!
“Honglei is a good child. I've let her down.” Yun Jianyue sounded guilt-ridden.
Pei Mianman scoffed in her heart. And I’m your younger cousin, remember? You secretly hooked up with my man. Shouldn’t you feel guilty towards me too?
But it was already chaotic enough without her sticking her foot into it, so she decided to let the master and disciple sort it out by themselves.
Yun Jianyue nervously grabbed Pei Mianman’s hand and said, “Manman, who else knows about this? I don’t mind being embarrassed, but I can’t let Honglei be mocked alongside me.”
“Don’t worry, I’m the only one who knows.” Pei Mianman knew what she was worried about. “At this point, Sect Master Yan only suspects it. She isn’t certain about your relationship with Zu An.”
Yun Jianyue breathed a sigh of relief. As long as that ice sculpture doesn’t know. She quickly added, “Manman, you must know why I requested your help last time now. You have to help me, or else Honglei and I will be in trouble.”
Pei Mianman hesitated for a while but eventually decided against revealing Yan Xuehen’s relationship with Zu An. That would cause so much damage to Chu Chuyan and Yan Xuehen that she had to think things through first.
“Let me calm down first.” She waved her hand as she left the room in a daze.
Chuyan asked me to deal with Yun Jianyue, whereas Yun Jianyue asked me to deal with Yan Xuehen. Does no one remember Ah Zu is my man too?! What the hell is this?!
She headed straight to Zu An’s room. She was going to have a good talk with the culprit behind this huge mess.
“Manman, why were you so angry earlier?” Zu An stepped forward to embrace her, only for Pei Mianman to shove him aside and glare at him coldly.
Zu An was perplexed. “Did something happen?”
“You should know better than anyone else!” Pei Mianman glared at him with so much rage that it wouldn’t be surprising if she ripped off his flesh.
“So you know about it.” Zu An knew she had come from Yun Jianyue’s room, so it wasn’t hard for him to figure out what had happened.
Pei Mianman couldn’t take it anymore. “How could you get together with Sect Master Yun and Sect Master Yan? They're Honglei and Chuyan’s masters! What the hell are you thinking?!”
“The heart defies logic.” Zu An didn’t explain how they had ended up together.
Pei Mianman retorted, “...Big words, but you’re just a pervert, aren’t you?”
Zu An was silent.
Pei Mianman suddenly tensed up. “Hold on. You didn’t do anything with my master, did you?”
Zu An was dumbstruck.
His bewildered expression made Pei Mianman burst into laughter. I’m overthinking things. My master might have been a beauty in her younger years, but she’s no longer this fellow’s type anymore. She quietly asked her master for forgiveness in her mind.
She was feeling extremely conflicted now. On the one hand, she was glad she didn’t have to face the same dilemma that Chu Chuyan and Qiu Honglei had gone through. On the other hand, she was worried that if those two cooperated with their masters, she would be at a disadvantage.
She quickly shook those thoughts away from her mind and asked, “What do you intend to do now? How are you going to settle this?”
Zu An looked lost. “I've been conflicted about this too.”
“What’s there to be conflicted about? Call them together and thrash it out!” Pei Mianman harrumphed. “Can’t you see they're already pouncing on each other, all because of you? If you let things continue at this rate, there’ll be no way to resolve this.”
Zu An’s reluctant expression brought a frown to Pei Mianman’s face. She continued, “Do you enjoy seeing them compete over you so you can relish in the benefits? You bastard!”
Zu An angrily replied, “Do I look like that kind of person? I've considered that. It might be possible for Yun Jianyue—she’s from the Devil Sect and doesn’t conform to conventions, so the world won’t mock her for this—but what about Yan Xuehen? She would have to endure not just Yun Jianyue’s mockery, but the world’s scorn too.”
Pei Mianman was taken aback. She'd forgotten about that issue. So that’s what he’s worried about. I misunderstood him.
She thought hard but couldn’t think of a solution, and that vexed her. “Of all things, why did Yan Xuehen have to build up a pure, virtuous persona?” If you went with that persona, you should have never snatched my man!
Zu An breathed a sigh of relief. “Manman, you don’t know how frustrated I was, being unable to find a person to confide in. It's wonderful to have you strategize for me.”
“Who’s strategizing for you? I’m only helping because Chuyan asked me to!” Pei Mianman blurted out in a fit of anger.
“Chuyan?”
Pei Mianman clasped her mouth, realizing she had accidentally given away crucial information. There was no point hiding it anymore, so she told him about Chu Chuyan’s request.
Zu An was moved. “Chuyan...”
“You should be glad to have a wife like her.” Pei Mianman harrumphed.
Zu An knew she was jealous, so he embraced her and said, “It’s my fortune to have your company.”
Pei Mianman wanted to maintain a cold expression, but Zu An was so skilled that she soon succumbed and started laughing. “Stop messing around. It’s itchy...”
They wrestled for a bit before resuming their discussion.
“Why don’t I talk to big sister Yun first? She’s a good person at heart. I don’t think she’ll corner Sect Master Yan,” Pei Mianman proposed.
“Are you certain she’ll spare Yan Xuehen?”
“...”
Pei Mianman thought about their long-time grudge. Yeah, it’s unlikely my cousin would hesitate to use this against Sect Master Yan. Even if my cousin held back, Sect Master Yan could feel insulted that she was ‘spared’ by her rival. Who knows what extreme things she could do?
This frustrated her a lot. She exclaimed, “You deal with your mess!”
She turned around and left. He’s the one reaping the benefits. Why should I clean up after him?
