Kaijin Fighter: So I Have to Make Monsters, So What?

Chapter 1706: War is never fun...so let’s make it! - Hurricroak

Chapter 1706: War is never fun...so let’s make it! - Hurricroak

[You know, you think after all of the wars and battles we’ve been through, that this would be easier to visually digest...] I complained to my fellow kaijin. [But it’s still gross to look at.]

When the others and I had arrived to battle in the past, it was always near the beginning.

This allowed us to intervene early and make sure the battle followed a rhythm that we wanted.

Which, as the maestro would prefer, zero friendly casualties and maximum enemy annihilation.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to change the production to our favor this time around.

As Nepherage went to go and fight the lindwurm, and Frosttusk went to assist the Zhen Clan in dealing with the enemy warriors, I kept my eyes locked squarely on the back of the young man who had no business being this deep in a battlefield was decorated with the bodies of enemy and ally alike.

Well, at least not recklessly like this.

I could understand recklessly charging in for the sake of protecting a loved one, especially when one was young and assumed their cultivation was enough to stand head and shoulders with other warriors, but even I understood that one had to be very careful about the possibility of being jumped by an opportunistic bastard looking for an easy victory.

"Huh? Who’s the brat?!"

"I don’t know, but kill him!"

Like right the fuck now.

Hakon was so focused on the search in front of him that he failed to notice that a pair of aether warriors behind him had noticed this lack of guard and were now trying to get the jump on him.

Unfortunately for those two party crashers, I happen to jump better.

[Iron—]

[Stone—]

[Double Thunder Palm!]

Before either of these two warriors from the Tremorscale tribe could land a finger on Hakon, I managed to land right between them like the sexiest frog on the planet and jam a pair of thunder-infused palms right into their stomachs.

For added damage, I made sure to partially activate my bear transformation to increase the muscular density in my palms.

I could feel the soft flesh of their bodies on my palms for a few moments before I could feel them being sent flying by the force of my attack, their screams of surprise and pain in perfect stereo.

"Gods above, I am never getting over just how nice it feels to be this powerful," I whispered to myself, not wanting to share this particular moment with my band mates.

But I couldn’t revel in this small moment of victory for too long.

Hakon was still blissfully unaware how close he was to death and tragedy, so he kept running ahead looking for his parents.

More than once, I saw the young man pause to look over a corpse and develop an incredibly complicated expression.

One that was a mix of relief, disgust, and mourning.

An expression that only formed when you think a loved one had died, become relieved when you realize the body on the ground wasn’t theirs, become absolutely disgusted about the fact that you were relieved by that thought, and then hit with mourning when you realize you actually did know the person on the ground.

I had seen this expression once before, but only in one of the "movies" that were extracted from the Maestro’s memories.

On a personal level, I’ve only ever seen grief.

Regardless of my personal drama, Hakon kept up this mad search until he finally spotted a couple who were definitely his parents.

At least, that’s what I could gleam from him yelling "Dad" in a positive tune as opposed to worry, and that statement being replied with the name, "Hakon."

From my vantage point, I saw an older man and his wife successfully fighting off an attack from a pair of warriors before breaking into a sprint towards Hakon.

In a couple of moments, they were going to embrace each other in the way a reunited family does during and after a tragedy. Unfortunately, in those same moments, I could see a bloodthirsty motherfucker with an axe trying to ruin this moment.

More specifically, the asshole was about to blindside the old couple and probably lodge his axe into Mama’s skull.

Not on my watch.

[Oh no you fucking don’t—Thunder Vice!]

Before this joyous reunion could turn into a tragedy with a funeral march, I pumped as much aether as I could into my legs and launched myself forward while transforming my arm into a giant crab claw.

Faster than a lighting bolt, I tackled the charging axe wielder and grabbed the hater’s neck with my claw.

Now, I could’ve just tackled him and been done with it, but I had a sticky feeling I was going to need him as a projectile soon.

And that feeling turned out to be right on the money.

Soon after I had tackled and grappled the axe wielder, Hakon managed to reunite with his parents for a few moments of peace and love before another hater tried to ruin it by throwing a boulder made of condensed aether at them.

[Fast ball Bolt!]

The would-be attacker was just about to toss his deadly payload when I threw the axe-fucker in my grasp at them like he was a fastball.

Since they were aether warriors, neither of them exploded upon impact with the other, but I did hear a rather satisfying crack as I broke someone’s ribcage against another person’s skull.

And as luck would have it, neither Hakon nor his parents noticed this event occurring.

They were too busy sharing words of love, reunion, and worry with one another, to the point where they forgot about the war happening around them.

Honestly? I envied them for that.

War fucking sucked, and everyone needed someone to help hide away from the ugliness of the world with every now and then.

Nepherage and Frosttusk were my ride-or-dies, literally, but...I’m not entirely sure if I could have that same oblivious moment of peace that I could have with—

"No, we’re not thinking about that now," I said aloud to myself, "I need to focus on the fighting."

With Hakon now delivered to his parents, I could now pivot my attention to the rest of the battlefield and see how much of a bloody mess everything was.

The Tremorscale tribe outnumbered the Storm Singers, that much I could tell, but the latter was doing quite well in making sure the former bled for every casualty taken.

Seeing how being a solo act wasn’t going to work too well, I decided to bring out my back-up dancers.

Focusing on my untransformed hand, I called up the marbles that contained my two adorable apprentices.

[Rhythm! Blues! Go and party!] I commanded as I tossed them forward.

The marbles exploded into bursts of blue and red [Chaos] as Rhythm and Blues took to the battlefield.

I took it as a point of pride that out of all the kaijin with zako apprentices, mine were the closest to becoming full kaijin of their own...I think.

Well, they were the most interesting to look at, at least.

Rhythm and Blues started their existences as fairly boring skeleton-class zakos that weren’t very interesting to look at other than the fact that they had animal skulls for heads that seemed to change every time they were summoned.

Under my tutelage, though, they developed some lovely colors and began to develop flesh. Oddly, though, neither developed features resembling my fine self but they did develop the ability to speak.

Rhythm had developed a red coloring but was beginning to resemble a humanoid penguin, complete with their hands turning into wing-like blades.

Rhythm had developed an energetic temper and developed a fighting style that reminded me of capoeria.

[Its time to fight, right?]

On the other hand, Blues developed an oddly green coloring and had begun to resemble a humanoid donkey, complete with a long pair of ears and stubborn attitude.

Blues was more dour than Rhythm, and he fought like it too.

[Oh man...that’s a lot of people...]

It wasn’t any particular style, as far as I could tell, but I was told by the curators once that resembled something called "aikido."

Regardless of their differences, and their styles differing from my own, I couldn’t have asked for better apprentices.

[Rhythm! Blues! Go and fight the assholes in brown.]

[As you wish, Miss-Miss!]

[Whatever...you say...]

Rhythm was the first to attack, using a bit of aether to leap into the air and land on the shoulders of an enemy warrior before dropping down to sit and toss the poor bastard like a basketball.

Blues followed shortly after, forcefully grabbing an enemy about to attack a Storm Singer and spinning them around.

Blues waited a full two seconds before simply upper cutting the man and knocking the air right out of them.

While they were fighitng, I began to charge up for the big finale.

’Now do I finish charging before or after Nepherage is done with her task?’
