Ch. 1280 - The Primordial Dragon Legacy
“Under the leadership of the Lord of Death, the Mirage Tides Heaven has become more and more arrogant,” the voice explained. “They refuse to comply with any conditions.”
“What does the King say about this?” Miss Jing asked.
“There’s been no response,” the voice replied. “I suppose we’re expected to handle it ourselves.”
“In that case,” Miss Jing said, “with our current power, we’ll put the Mirage Tides Heaven aside for now. The priority is to track Xu Zimo’s whereabouts and confirm whether he’s truly dead.”
Even as she spoke, she didn’t quite believe it herself. Still, that was their current objective.
The voice gave no reply and gradually faded into silence.
Miss Jing’s gaze lingered on the void before her. Once again, the darkness around her returned to stillness.
In the Shu estate, the once-casual banquet finally came to an end after a battle fought without smoke or blood.
Drunken Red Dust emerged as the biggest winner. Though they were merely a group of women who rarely flaunted their abilities, a casual display of their skill left everyone wary of underestimating them again.
As for the Shu Heavenly Clan, backed by the Dragon God Imperium, they had little to fear from anyone.
After the banquet, Shu Long began arranging lodging for Xu Zimo and Wu Zhaodi.
Once they arrived at their courtyard, Shu Long glanced around to make sure no one was nearby and said in a low voice, “Brother-in-law, Zhaodi, I just got word about something. Thought I’d better tell you.”
“What is it?” Xu Zimo asked curiously.
“The Three Luan Holy Lands didn’t come here just to recruit disciples,” Shu Long said quietly. “That’s just a cover.”
“In a few days, the tomb of the Primordial Dragon will surface.”
“The tomb of the Primordial Dragon? What’s that?” Xu Zimo asked in surprise.
“You don’t even know that?” Shu Long said, startled.
“I’m not from around here. How would I know?” Xu Zimo smiled.
“It’s famous, everyone in the Godfiend Abyss Heaven has at least heard of it,” Shu Long said.
Wu Zhaodi chimed in at that moment, explaining, “The Dragon God Imperium’s very name comes from the Primordial Dragon. Legend has it that before the empire was founded, this land was ruled by the Primordial Dragon.”
“Is the Primordial Dragon related to the Sixteen Demon Races?” Xu Zimo asked.
The Sixteen Demon Races were the rulers of the Azure Mystic Heaven, divided into the Upper Eight and Lower Eight.
“Strictly speaking, they share the same lineage,” Shu Long said. “I’ve heard that long ago, the ancestors of the Primordial Dragon bloodline had a falling out. Some of them left for the Azure Mystic Heaven and became the Sixteen Demon Races, while others stayed here in the Godfiend Abyss Heaven.”
“That’s right,” Wu Zhaodi added with a nod. “After the demons took control of this land, the remaining Primordial Dragons were all slaughtered. Countless dragon corpses fell to the earth, forming innumerable tombs and inheritance grounds.”
“So what you’re saying,” Xu Zimo said, “is that everyone who came here is after the Primordial Dragon’s legacy?”
He thought of the Beast Compendium he’d acquired before. After capturing the arrogant beast and the Elder Fiend of Fiend Mountain, he hadn’t used it much since. Perhaps this Primordial Dragon could fulfill one of its remaining conditions.
“Most likely, yes,” Shu Long said. “Eight or nine times out of ten, that’s the case. I only heard about it tonight myself. Still, it doesn’t concern us directly. Just stay alert for the next few days.”
“I’d actually like to take a look at the Primordial Dragon’s tomb,” Xu Zimo said suddenly.
“What? Brother-in-law, no way!” Shu Long blurted out. “There’s no need for us to get mixed up in that chaos.”
“I want to go too,” Wu Zhaodi said immediately.
“Fine then,” Shu Long said quickly, shifting his stance in an instant. “I’ll make arrangements tomorrow. If the Shu Heavenly Clan sends a party, I’ll make sure to bring you along.”
Xu Zimo glanced at him, this guy really changed sides fast. So that’s what they mean by choosing beauty over everything else.
“But remember,” Shu Long warned, “you can watch, but don’t cause trouble.”
After Shu Long left, Wu Zhaodi didn’t head back to her room. Instead, she pointed to the pavilion in the courtyard. “Talk for a bit?” she asked.
Xu Zimo didn’t refuse.
“I’m planning to kill Qi Kuangyin,” Wu Zhaodi said bluntly. “It’s going to cause a lot of trouble. If you want to leave, do it soon.”
“That’s all?” Xu Zimo asked flatly.
“The Three Luan Holy Lands itself isn’t the scary part,” Wu Zhaodi said, shaking her head. “It’s the Celestial Luan God Realm behind them that’s the real threat. I won’t lie to you, I’m alive only for revenge. Starting tomorrow, we’ll go our separate ways.”
“Your revenge doesn’t concern me,” Xu Zimo said. “But I’m still going to see the Primordial Dragon’s tomb.”
“Why are you so hard to reason with?!” Wu Zhaodi sighed. “Right now, everyone sees us as traveling together. If something happens to me, you’ll be implicated too.”
As they spoke, a sudden explosion echoed from the distant sky.
A thunderous dragon’s roar followed, shaking the air in every direction.
A storm of earthen-yellow spirit energy gathered above them, swirling upward and piercing through the clouds.
The dragon’s roar grew louder, more resonant, echoing for hundreds of miles around, shaking heaven and earth.
The vision drew everyone’s attention.
Before Xu Zimo could even move, he saw multiple figures from across Sun-Sword County soaring toward the direction of the dragon’s cry.
“Guess it’s true what they say, better lucky than early,” Xu Zimo said with a grin.
“A dark night and strong winds,” Wu Zhaodi murmured softly, an omen of blood and chaos.
She didn’t care about the Primordial Dragon’s inheritance; all she wanted was the lives of those from the Three Luan Holy Lands.
Xu Zimo could tell she didn’t want to discuss her reasons, so he didn’t ask.
He rose into the air, following at a steady pace toward the sound.
When Xu Zimo and Wu Zhaodi arrived, the place was already occupied by several factions.
Among them, Xu Zimo recognized three, Drunken Red Dust Inn, the Three Luan Holy Lands, and the Shu Heavenly Clan.
The other two were unfamiliar.
One consisted of two burly men. Shu Long explained that they were notorious bandit brothers from Sun-Sword County.
The other group was shrouded entirely in black robes, concealing their identities.
Five factions in total surrounded the area.
At the center lay the location of the Primordial Dragon’s tomb.
The earthen spirit energy continued to gather and rise, spiraling upward toward the heavens.
“Well then,” Elder Qi Kuangyin of the Three Luan Holy Lands said, scanning the crowd with a smile, “which of you would like to go first?”
“Elder Qi, with your status and rank, you should lead the way,” Gongsun Muyu said with a polite smile.
“Forget the formalities,” one of the bandit brothers snorted. “We’re not waiting for anyone.”
Without hesitation, the two of them leapt straight into the center.
The others waited, watching for any signs of danger. When nothing happened, fear of missing out overcame caution.
The group of black-robed figures soon followed, jumping in after them.
And then, unable to hold back any longer, the rest of the factions followed suit, one after another plunging into the tomb.
