Ch. 1197 - Performance, Story, God Blade
All four continents of the God World had fallen.
Chaos had not only defeated every powerful cultivator in these lands, it had also subjugated countless beasts that chose to follow it.
Now every city had submitted.
Chaos decreed that all citizens must offer up resources to it every month. The oppression had reached its limit.
Everyone hated it, yet everyone feared it.
Rumors about Chaos spread endlessly, and the tension between suppression and rebellion continued to build.
Within the Myriad Beast Realm, Xu Zimo stood beside Chaos.
“Master, I’ve done everything you ordered,” Chaos said.
“Well done. I’ll handle the rest,” Xu Zimo replied with a faint smile.
In the God World’s northern region.
The city of Flame Stone was once a famous and thriving place.
Because it produced both blazing fire essence and a rare kind of stone, it had prospered quickly, an economic hub connecting thirty-four surrounding cities.
It stood at the very heart of the northern region.
But after Chaos appeared, a great battle broke out. The city’s north and east gates fell, and Flame Stone was defeated and forced to surrender.
Now the city was under reconstruction.
The fires and rocks that once gave it strength also made its climate harshly dry.
Dust storms swept the land, and the ground was cracked in countless lines.
On this day, yellow sand filled the air. Through the haze, a lone figure slowly approached from the distance.
Xu Zimo wore a wide straw hat and a blue robe.
On the back of his robe was the character: Gatekeeper.
He walked toward Flame Stone City, each step leaving a deep print in the earth.
At the ruined northern gate, its walls long destroyed, he saw dozens of people rebuilding.
He approached one of the overseers and asked softly, “Friend, could you tell me how to get to the City Lord’s mansion?”
“What business do you have with the City Lord?” the overseer asked warily.
“I’ve come for the beast,” Xu Zimo answered.
“What beast?” the man asked, eyes narrowing.
“The one born of chaos, massive in form and violent in nature,” Xu Zimo replied.
“You… you mean that monster?” the overseer stammered.
“Oh? You’ve seen it?” Xu Zimo asked calmly.
“It attacked Flame Stone not long ago!” the man said, pointing at the ruins around them. “All this, this is what it did. You know that creature?”
“I’m ashamed to say I don’t,” Xu Zimo said, shaking his head. “But I’ll speak of it with your City Lord directly.”
“I am a general of the City Lord’s mansion,” the man replied quickly. “I can take you there.”
“Then I’ll trouble you,” Xu Zimo said with a polite nod.
As they crossed Flame Stone, Xu Zimo saw how far the once-prosperous city had fallen.
Shops were shuttered.
Citizens hid inside their homes. The streets were silent.
Only the scars of war remained.
Autumn itself seemed to have merged with the city’s desolation.
Inside the City Lord’s mansion, Qin Haoshi sat at the head of the hall.
Beside him was an old man wrapped completely in a gray robe, huddled in the corner.
Below them sat several of the city’s remaining officials and defenders.
“City Lord, that monster demands a hundred thousand stones and flames this month,” one man said gloomily. “Where can we possibly find that much? At this rate, Flame Stone will be destroyed!”
“If we don’t pay, we’ll all die anyway,” another countered.
“Then maybe we should abandon the city!”
“Where would we go? I’ve heard the entire land is under its rule. There’s no escape from oppression.”
“Then what do you suggest, sit here and wait to die?”
“Enough!” Qin Haoshi said sharply. “Let’s hear what the City Lord has to say.”
The hall fell silent.
Qin Haoshi’s brow had been furrowed the entire time.
He sighed, then turned to the gray-robed man beside him. “Literature Sovereign, what do you think?”
This so-called Literature Sovereign was no ordinary man. His reputation was vast.
One of the Six Sovereigns, he was a peer of the Sword Sovereign of Mighty Heavenly Sword Region.
“There’s no good way,” Literature Sovereign said calmly. “Either we fight to the death, or we submit.”
His deep eyes seemed to pierce through layers of reality, reading every thought in the room.
“Is that really all?” Qin Haoshi murmured, closing his eyes in thought.
At that moment, the overseer entered with Xu Zimo.
“City Lord, someone wishes to see you,” the man announced.
“I said not to interrupt! Can’t you see we’re in council?” Qin Haoshi snapped.
“City Lord, it’s about the monster,” the overseer said quickly.
“What about it?” Qin Haoshi asked, frowning.
“Tell him,” the overseer said, gesturing to Xu Zimo.
Xu Zimo gave a faint smile, clasped his hands in a polite salute, and said evenly, “I am a Gatekeeper from the Primordial Domain. I’ve come for that monster.”
“Primordial Domain? Gatekeeper?” Qin Haoshi repeated, frowning. “Never heard of it.”
“I’ve lived in seclusion all my life, deep in the western mountains, where few ever go,” Xu Zimo explained. “It’s not surprising you haven’t heard of us.”
“What do you want, then?” Qin Haoshi asked.
“When this world was first formed, chaos reigned,” Xu Zimo said slowly. “My sect’s ancestor rose from seclusion, suppressed countless beasts, and sealed them within the Primordial Domain. My line has guarded that place for generations. Recently, I discovered that one of the seals had been broken. A peerless beast escaped. I came down the mountain to find it.”
“I’ve never heard of this Primordial Domain,” Literature Sovereign said quietly. “There’s no record of it in any historical texts.”
“In that era, our ancestor destroyed all records of his deeds,” Xu Zimo replied. “He wished both the domain and its history to fade into legend. No one expected the seal to break again, revealing what was meant to stay buried.”
“Then what about your ancestor? Surely he knew how to defeat the beast?” someone asked eagerly.
“The ancestor has long since passed away. I am the current Gatekeeper of Primordial Domain,” Xu Zimo said calmly. “And yes, there is a way to destroy the creature.”
“What way?” Qin Haoshi asked, rising from his seat.
“To slay the beast, my ancestor forged a blade, a divine weapon called Shadow Tyrant,” Xu Zimo said slowly.
“Whoever wields the God Blade can kill the monster.”
“The God Blade…” Literature Sovereign muttered to himself, then asked, “And where is this blade now?”
