I Read Their Tragic Fates, and My Family Reads My Mind?

Chapter 331: Touched for Nothing

Chapter 331: Chapter 331: Touched for Nothing

Arabella Donovan’s teasing left Zane Lynch in a bind, unsure whether to tag along or stay behind.

At the crucial moment, Melody Lynch came to his rescue. "Fine, come if you want. It’s a good chance to have Serena check on your company’s fortune for the year. Just don’t let some riffraff that someone snuck in tarnish the company’s reputation and get in the way of you making money again."

Zane Lynch’s eyes instantly welled up with tears of gratitude. "Melody, I knew you still cared about your big brother."

"Hold it. I’m just worried that if you go bankrupt, you won’t have the money to support my sister-in-law and nephew, who I worked so hard to find. You’re a grown man. You should know how to make money to support your family and take on your responsibilities as its head. Stop thinking about mooching off Mom and Dad all day."

Zane Lynch was speechless. ’Right. So much for being touched.’

Watching the siblings bicker, Arabella Donovan hid behind Melody Lynch, covering her mouth to stifle a giggle.

’The Lynch siblings are something else. One is a total sis-con—he even named his company, Solara, by combining his two sisters’ names. The other says one thing and means another. She clearly adores her brother but insists on acting like she can’t stand him. Hahahaha...’

Zane Lynch froze. ’So that’s how my sister really feels? She loves me that much?’ He couldn’t help but grin foolishly. ’Hehehe...’

Melody Lynch never imagined she’d be backstabbed by her dear friend. Flushed with embarrassment and anger, she glared at her foolishly grinning brother. "Are you going to get moving or not? If we keep chatting, it’ll be dark before we know it!"

"Right, right, you’re right. Let’s head upstairs. We’ll go to... yes, the finance department first." Having received this ’confirmation’ of his sister’s affection, Mr. Lynch reverted to his doting-brother persona, a huge smile on his face as he led Arabella and Melody to the finance department.

The entrance to the finance department looked completely different from the last time Arabella and her companions had visited.

The huge hourglass—the one that had made Arabella’s eyes ache just looking at it—was gone. In its place stood a vibrant, thriving money tree.

The receptionist was the same one as before. Seeing them approach, she perceptively greeted each of them in turn. "Mr. Lynch, Miss Lynch, Master Donovan."

"We meet again," Arabella said warmly. "How have you been? You have a healthy glow, your eyes are sparkling with joy, and the space between your brows is shining. It looks like a great fortune is headed your way—something wonderful is just around the corner."

The receptionist froze for a second, then a blush crept up her cheeks, and she looked a little shy.

Seeing her reaction, the Lynch siblings’ interest was piqued. "Wagner, does that mean Serena hit the nail on the head?"

"Yes. My boyfriend and I are engaged. We’re planning to get married at the end of next month. I’ll be sure to bring in wedding candy for everyone."

"Congratulations!"

Listening to her boss’s congratulations, the receptionist’s eyes lit up. "To be honest, I was pretty nervous about the sudden decision to get married. Even though we’re childhood sweethearts and have known each other forever, marriage is such a lifelong commitment that I couldn’t help but feel uncertain. But now, hearing what Master Donovan just said... I don’t know why, but I suddenly feel at ease."

"Don’t you worry. Your boyfriend is a good man, loyal and devoted. You two are a perfect match, a union blessed by heaven. Plus, both of your families are about to come into some good fortune, so this is the perfect time to tie the knot. As long as you nurture your marriage, your life together will only get better and better."

Hearing this, the receptionist’s eyes shone even brighter, and she looked at Arabella Donovan with newfound excitement. "It’s all thanks to you. Everyone in the department is so grateful to you for having Mr. Lynch remove that hourglass."

"What’s this all about?" Melody instinctively turned to ask her brother.

Zane Lynch rubbed his nose awkwardly. "The former deputy head of the finance department put a man-sized hourglass here. When Serena came by, she said it was a disaster—that an hourglass in the finance department symbolizes wealth leaking away. No matter how much you earn, it all just slips out."

"I looked into it afterward. In less than three months as acting head of the department, that deputy had embezzled at least a seven-figure sum from the company. Once I had the proof, I reported him to the police and had him arrested. The hourglass was removed that same night."

Melody thought back carefully and finally connected the story to one of the many recent family incidents her mother had mentioned to her not long ago.

"You mean the husband of our distant cousin?"

"That’s the one."

The cousin had even come to their house to make a scene about it. At the time, their mother had thrown down evidence that the man—the so-called uncle-in-law—had embezzled company funds to keep a mistress. She’d hoped her cousin would see the light, cut her losses, and dump the scumbag.

But who would have thought that upon seeing the evidence, the cousin’s first reaction was to fly into a rage, accusing them of violating her family’s privacy. She even threatened to sue them if Zane Lynch didn’t get her husband out of jail.

Their mother was so infuriated that she finally realized arguing with certain morons was a complete waste of time, energy, and life itself. In the end, she simply cut off all ties with that side of the family, vowing to never have contact with them again.

As for Mr. Kerr, his fate was left to the law; he would face whatever sentence was coming to him.

"After the hourglass was removed," the receptionist continued, "a bunch of good things started happening to people in our department over the past few months. For example, one person was waiting at a traffic light when a lottery ticket flew out of nowhere and slapped them right in the face. They took it to be checked and found out they’d actually won a few hundred bucks."

The Lynch siblings were dumbfounded. "???"

"Or another person went shopping and happened to be there during a mall promotion. They got a raffle ticket for spending a certain amount and ended up winning the grand prize on their first try."

The Lynch siblings were speechless. "..."

"And there are lots of other little things like that. It’s all been happening in the months since Master Donovan’s last visit."

A glint appeared in Melody’s eyes as she leaned in conspiratorially. "So what good thing happened to you? Don’t tell me it was your boyfriend proposing?"

The receptionist blushed. "You could say that, but that’s not the whole story."

"Not the whole story? What else is there?"

"A while back, there was some new development planned for our area. The original plan only went as far as the next village. But half a month ago, we got confirmation that the developer had decided to expand the project at the last minute. Our village was included in the final blueprint."

The receptionist was being modest. Arabella cut straight to the point for her. "In other words, you and your boyfriend are about to become millionaires—or even multimillionaires—from the demolition buyout."

The Lynch siblings were floored. "!!!" ’No fucking way!’

The receptionist looked shy, but her eyes were brighter than ever. "If it were just one or two of us, that would be one thing. But something similar has happened to almost everyone in the department over the last few months."

’I must have been the last one. I was starting to think so much time had passed that I just wasn’t lucky enough to share in everyone else’s good fortune. I never imagined mine was just waiting to be the biggest of all.’

"So, everyone in the department agrees: it was moving the hourglass that brought all our lost good luck back to us."

And that was why they were all incredibly grateful to Arabella Donovan, the one who had told Zane Lynch to get rid of it.

It wasn’t just Melody; even Zane, the boss himself, was hearing about this for the first time. The siblings instinctively turned to look at Arabella Donovan.

They saw a faint smile play on her lips. She neither confirmed nor denied anything, the picture of a silent benefactor.
