I Cultivate in a Government Office

Chapter 111 - 88: Assuming Office

Chapter 111: Chapter 88: Assuming Office

Yang Wenqing nodded again. He had assumed the paperwork would be simple, but he hadn’t expected there to be so much of it.

Huanmin watched Yang Wenqing sorting through the files and reminded him, "I’d suggest you transfer someone to be your assistant, Group Leader Yang. They could do the preliminary screening and filing of important documents for you. Otherwise, you might not have enough time each day."

This time, Yang Wenqing looked up at Huanmin. He knew she used to handle all these tasks herself, acting as the de facto head of the Major Case Team’s administrative staff.

"I’ve been doing this for over ten years, and I just don’t have the energy I used to. You should find a younger person, Group Leader Yang. Xiaoliu from Team Three would be a good fit. I can train her for a while."

As if sensing what Yang Wenqing was thinking, Huanmin proactively offered a solution.

But Yang Wenqing didn’t commit right away. He simply said, "Understood," and went back to organizing the files on his desk. The documents were, in fact, already sorted; he was merely rearranging them to suit his own preferences.

Huanmin studied Yang Wenqing for a moment before excusing herself. She hadn’t been gone long when a tall, burly figure appeared at the half-open door and knocked politely. It was none other than Wu Qianjun, the man he had defeated in the ring.

Just the previous afternoon, he had been transferred to the Major Case Team to serve as the captain of Team Two. This was a compromise Vice Director Gao had been forced to make—after all, Zhang Qiming was the Director.

"Vice Group Leader Yang." Wu Qianjun’s demeanor was stiff and formal.

"Come in." As the victor, Yang Wenqing showed the appropriate magnanimity. He gestured to the chair in front of his desk and said politely, "Captain Wu, have a seat."

Wu Qianjun did as he was told, entering and taking a seat with rigid propriety. He showed no signs of resentment; it was clear he had fully accepted his defeat in the ring.

"Is there something you need?" Yang Wenqing asked, breaking the silence.

At the question, Wu Qianjun produced a thin folder from inside his jacket and presented it with both hands. "These are the files for the ten members I’ve nominated for Team Two. Please review them."

His movements were precise, marked by the distinct rigidity and directness of a military man.

Yang Wenqing, however, could sense an almost imperceptible awkwardness beneath that rigid exterior. For a straightforward man of military bearing like Wu Qianjun, learning how to interact with the young superior who had defeated him was clearly a new challenge.

Yang Wenqing accepted the folder and asked, "How are your injuries?"

Wu Qianjun seemed taken aback by the question. He paused for a second before replying, a little stiffly, "Thank you for your concern, Vice Group Leader. They don’t hinder my ability to operate."

Yang Wenqing then opened the folder and quickly scanned the contents. The list of ten included seasoned veterans from the Operations Division, capable security officers transferred from other precincts, and even two old soldiers who had retired from the Northern Border. Clearly, either Director Zhang or Wu Qianjun himself had pulled some strings to get them.

"All top-tier talent," Yang Wenqing commented, closing the folder. He picked up his pen, signed his name in the approval field, and then activated the Array on his badge to emboss it with a seal before handing the document back to Wu Qianjun.

With that, the transfer orders were officially legitimized. The personnel office in the records division would now transfer their files to the Major Case Team, and their salaries and benefits would henceforth be linked to the team.

Wu Qianjun accepted the folder with both hands. He opened his mouth, as if wanting to make a pledge or perhaps ask for work-related instructions, but in the end, he just said stiffly, "Vice Group Leader, if there are no other orders, I’ll go process the transfers and get the team up and running as soon as possible."

Yang Wenqing was inwardly amused by the man’s earnest effort. He softened his tone and said, "Captain Wu, we are colleagues in the Major Case Team. Our purpose is to maintain peace in Qianjiao County. From now on, you have full authority over Team Two’s operations. Come to me whenever you encounter a major case or need to coordinate resources. I expect Team Two to be a unit that can fight the tough battles and get things done."

Upon hearing this, the tension in Wu Qianjun’s face seemed to ease slightly. He stood up, straightened his back, and declared, "Yes, sir! I understand!"

As he watched Wu Qianjun leave with measured, precise steps, Yang Wenqing let out a soft sigh. Managing his relationship with this particular subordinate was one of the challenges of his new post. It seemed, however, that while Wu Qianjun was rigid, he wasn’t unreasonable. As long as Yang Wenqing kept things professional and afforded him sufficient respect and trust, he shouldn’t be difficult to work with.

He sat back down, his gaze sweeping over the stack of documents on his desk that awaited his attention before drifting to the bright sunlight outside the window.

’Actually, the truly difficult one to deal with is Liu Xin.’

Just as he was thinking this, Liu Xin appeared at his door.
