Chapter 311: The End of The Ceremony
The problem was that, to these cultivators, his Eternal Flame was so painful, so agonizing, that they would rather choose death than live through the full power of the Eternal Flame burning them.
Fortunately for them, this was Wei Chen’s marriage ceremony, and having agonizing howls as a chorus in the background was not exactly a pleasant choice of musical accompaniment.
So the agonizing screams quickly stopped when the Lord of Death snapped his fingers. The green flames immediately extinguished as if they had never been there and had never burned anyone.
Strangely enough, after the green flames disappeared, the man’s skin was only flushed red from the pain, with no visible burns on his body. But as for his mind, only he knew what remained intact after that soul-searing pain that had agonized him and overwhelmed his entire sense of pain.
The man fell to the ground, drool escaping from his lips. The same went for his nose and eyes, where snot and tears escaped despite his lack of control over his facial muscles. It was as if all of his arrogance and dignity had been burned away by the green flames. He had even lost control of his bowels, and the waste he had been holding in leaked out, creating an unpleasant smell.
His two juniors witnessed all of this, but instead of their usual arrogant anger, their faces were distorted with fear. The horrific scene they had witnessed was beyond their wildest expectations. They had never thought that following their master down to the lower realm would allow them to experience such horror.
The two young men quickly shut their mouths and obediently knelt in place, trying to make themselves as small as possible, as if kneeling down and minimizing their presence would somehow prevent the terrifying man sitting on that throne from noticing them.
Seeing that the situation was under control, Wei Chen looked at his boss. The Lord of Death nodded, giving him permission to take over since this place technically belonged to Wei Chen.
"Okay! Somebody, clean up their mess and sprinkle some deodorant. Make it quick!" Wei Chen shouted toward his people, who were watching nearby.
After a brief moment, a group of janitors quickly rushed over and cleaned up the mess caused by the uninvited guests.
Mo Jue frowned and quickly rubbed his eyes. He thought he had seen a familiar face among the janitors. For a moment, he thought he saw the Patriarch of the Murong Clan, who had died during the assault on Azure River City, among the janitors.
But it was only a brief moment. The janitor group was so professional that they finished cleaning everything up within twenty seconds before quickly relocating to the side hall to await further instructions.
Mo Jue tilted his head.
*Maybe I was just seeing things. There’s no way someone could come back to life. Even an Immortal Realm cultivator wouldn’t be able to defy death.*
After regaining his composure, Mo Jue instructed the ceremony master to continue.
The ceremony master nodded and continued with the ritual. He started from the first bow since some idiots had interrupted them.
This time, the marriage ceremony went smoothly, and no one, not even a dog, came to interrupt the ceremony.
"The third bow! Husband and wife bow to each other! First bow, to respect and love each other. Second bow, to grow old together in harmony. Third bow, to be united in heart forever!" the ceremony master announced loudly.
Both Wei Chen and Mo Xingyao bowed to each other with smiles on their faces.
Among the VIP guests, Dream Butterfly also smiled at the scene, but deep in her heart, she felt a pang of envy. She wanted to have this kind of marriage too.
But... considering her background, she would consider herself lucky if she could become the first concubine. No one, especially the respectable clans, would allow a former courtesan to hold the title of the first lady of the household. Even becoming the second lady of a prominent household would only be possible if the household itself was not particularly prestigious.
As for her becoming the second lady of the Underworld Palace?
She could only dream of it.
But that uncomfortable feeling remained in her heart for only a brief moment before she pushed it to the corner of her mind.
For her, this was the best outcome she could hope for, becoming the first concubine to the man she loved with all her heart. Besides, from what she had experienced and learned about her lord husband, he did not seem to differentiate between the hierarchy of the ladies in his household.
The ceremony continued until the third bow was completed. The people cheered as the ceremony master made the final declaration.
"Escort the husband and wife to the bridal chamber!"
With the declaration from the ceremony master, the procession began. The cheers grew louder, accompanied by various celebratory and flattering words from the guests as the procession continued deeper into the fortress.
As they passed through the metallic hallways and strange architecture, Mo Xingyao could not help but look around with awe and the innocent curiosity of a child.
She had never seen anything like this before.
The decorations looked dark yet strangely cool. They were filled with an imposing, almost dark authority that gave her a strange futuristic feeling.
"Who came up with this decoration? You?" she asked curiously.
Wei Chen smiled wryly.
"Yes, it’s me. What do you think?"
Wei Chen asked. He could not tell her the truth anyway. If word somehow reached his boss’s wife, he would probably suffer secondhand retribution.
"Hmm... It’s kinda... strangely cool, I guess. I don’t know how to describe the feeling, but I don’t dislike it," Mo Xingyao replied as she tried to find the right words to describe her feelings, but ultimately could not.
The two arrived at a courtyard. This courtyard had been specifically built for them because Wei Chen had imagined that someone who had never experienced *Star Wars*, such as Mo Xingyao, might not appreciate living twenty-four hours a day in the dark atmosphere of the Imperial architecture.
So, he had decided to renovate one section of the fortress’s living quarters to resemble the traditional estates commonly found in this world.
The estate was, of course, not as extravagantly large as the Ximen Clan’s estate. However, compared to its equivalent on Earth, it was comparable to the traditional estate of a prince or duke.
Wei Chen had instructed the designers and builders to focus on usability rather than novelty or excessive decoration, such as exaggerating the size despite the fact that only a few people would be living there.
Thus, the current estate had been built.
The two got down from the procession and entered their bridal chamber.
Within the bridal chamber, Wei Chen took out a note and read through it. It contained a list of the rituals they needed to perform.
He carefully helped Mo Xingyao onto the bed before slowly lifting the veil covering her face.
Her beautiful face was revealed.
Mo Xingyao looked back at him with a smile, her cheeks flushed with the shyness of a newlywed maiden.
Wei Chen then led her to the table in the chamber, where they began the next ritual.
They shared a cup of wine together.
This was the nuptial cup sharing, a symbolic promise that they would share both the bitter and the sweet throughout their lives together.
At that moment, the sound of laughter and celebration floated into the chamber. The feast had started, and it was the groom’s duty to go out and receive the congratulations from the people attending the feast. Until the celebration was over, he could not return.
This was the most intolerable and unreasonable part of the ceremony.
Why should he go out there and drink with that rowdy bunch? He was already in the chamber with his bride!
Mo Xingyao looked at her husband’s face and knew exactly what he was thinking.
"Husband, you should go. Otherwise, people might gossip. It would be inappropriate for you not to go," Mo Xingyao calmly said with the wisdom of a wife.
This was the first time she had displayed such a calm and sweet demeanor, which surprised Wei Chen a little.
Was getting married really making this money-grubbing lady change so much!?
"Fine... I’ll go," Wei Chen said reluctantly.
But before he left, he took out a few packs of milk chocolate from his storage ring and handed them to Mo Xingyao.
"In case you’re hungry, you can eat these first. I’ll instruct the servants to bring you some food from the feast."
"Mm! Thank you, husband." Mo Xingyao nodded obediently.
Seeing that sweet smile on her little mouth made Wei Chen want to go outside, blast all those rowdy guests at the feast, cancel the entire celebration, and quickly come back.
But then he remembered that his boss might be staying at the feast, so he decided to obediently leave.
