Hello, Comrade. I'm Here to Marry You!

Chapter 157: Dream and Reality

Su Zhaozhao let out a soft gasp. She was a little surprised—how could her grandparents know about this?

Wait, she was dreaming.

Once she realized that, Su Zhaozhao quickly woke up.

Opening her eyes, Su Zhaozhao was still a bit dazed.

For some reason, she couldn’t seem to tell the difference between dream and reality.

Was that a dream, or had it really happened in her own world?

If it was a dream, then everything had been incredibly real—the aroma of the food, the warmth of her mother’s body, the loving gazes of her grandparents. It all felt like it had happened in the real world.

But it had to have been a dream, since she had just woken up from sleep.

Su Zhaozhao rubbed her head, feeling a little wistful.

She actually wished it had been real. She really missed her family from that other world.

Suddenly, a memory surfaced in Su Zhaozhao’s mind.

It was a scene from the original owner’s childhood. After her mother passed away, the original owner was crying as two elders held her—they were her maternal grandparents.

"Zhaozhao, how about you come live with Grandma and Grandpa from now on? Your father is busy with work and might not have much time to spend with you."

At the time, the original owner had been brainwashed by Su Dashan. He told her he couldn’t bear to part with her and convinced her to stay by his side, claiming her grandparents weren’t her closest relatives and would mistreat her.

So she had firmly refused the elderly couple.

She had even said some cruel things.

"No! Dad’s too pitiful. I have to stay with him."

"Don’t even think about taking me away from my dad!"

Su Zhaozhao watched this memory from an observer’s perspective and found it a great pity. With those words, the original owner had completely severed her ties with her grandparents.

’If I were those two old folks, I’d be heartbroken, too.’

’Their daughter was so hopelessly in love that she insisted on marrying a man from a family much poorer than her own.’

’Then, because of the delicate situation at the time, she chose to completely cut ties with her parents.’

’After she passed away from illness, the old couple wanted to take their granddaughter home, but the granddaughter refused to get close to them.’

That was why they hadn’t had any contact for many years.

As Su Zhaozhao watched, the elderly couple, who had been looking down to speak to the original owner, suddenly lifted their heads.

Su Zhaozhao’s mind went completely blank.

’Wait! Weren’t those her grandparents?’

’They looked exactly the same. Was this a parallel universe?’

’She’d read sci-fi novels that mentioned identical people living in different dimensions.’

The original owner was just a villainous female side character. Aside from memories of a few key events, most of her history was a blank slate in Su Zhaozhao’s mind.

But now, she was gaining more and more memories, and the people in them looked just like her relatives from her real world.

’She didn’t know if this was a good thing or a bad thing.’

Su Zhaozhao was panting, and a layer of sweat had broken out on her forehead.

"Zhaozhao, are you awake?" Xie Huaizheng’s voice came from outside the door.

Su Zhaozhao snapped back to reality and clutched her chest. Then, she ran to open the door.

The door opened, and as soon as she saw Xie Huaizheng, Su Zhaozhao ran up and threw her arms around him.

The man’s broad chest and warmth helped calm her down a little.

Xie Huaizheng hadn’t expected Su Zhaozhao to be so forward, and he froze for a moment.

Then, with a soft chuckle, he encircled her slender waist with one hand and ruffled her hair with the other. "What’s wrong?"

"I had a dream," Su Zhaozhao said.

"A nightmare?"

"No," Su Zhaozhao said. "I just... I kind of miss my grandparents."

Before, she had been under the impression that the original owner and her maternal grandparents were practically strangers.

But after her dream today, Su Zhaozhao suddenly had an intense longing to see them.

"Then how about we go find them in a little while? I can go with you."

’This works out perfectly,’ he thought. ’I can also get Su Zhaozhao’s household registration sorted out.’

Hearing this, Su Zhaozhao looked up at Xie Huaizheng. "You’ll go with me?"

"Of course. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with you traveling so far alone."

’He hadn’t known her for very long, yet she had already run into danger multiple times right under his nose.’

’How could he possibly rest easy letting her travel so far by herself?’

’Good thing he still had a few days of leave he could use.’

Su Zhaozhao smiled. She knew what he was worried about.

’It couldn’t be helped. After all, who was the one who had transmigrated into the body of a villainous female side character?’

’The luck of a villainous side character was always a little worse than that of a normal person.’

’But so far, she had been pretty lucky; she’d always come out of it unscathed in the end.’

Still, she was happy that Xie Huaizheng was willing to go with her.

Because when it came to the original owner’s grandparents, Su Zhaozhao was actually at a loss. She wasn’t sure if they would truly be willing to accept her.

After all, both the original owner and her mother had been determined to cut them off.

"Alright, don’t overthink it. Come on, let’s go to Uncle Li’s for dinner."

"Okay."

Su Zhaozhao went back inside to fix her hair and makeup, and by then, Huang Jiqin had arrived.

She stared at Su Zhaozhao, finding her beautiful from every angle.

In Beijing, she had seen plenty of beauties—from the song-and-dance troupes to movie stars—but she felt none of them were as lovely as Su Zhaozhao.

Su Zhaozhao wasn’t just beautiful; her skin was fair and delicate, so supple and dewy.

Her eyes were full of life.

Who wouldn’t like a girl like that?

Seeing Su Zhaozhao and Xie Huaizheng holding hands and looking so close made her even happier.

Su Zhaozhao brought wedding candy to Li Jian Country’s home.

Since Li Jian Country had insisted they not bring anything last time, they didn’t bring any other gifts.

Once again, it was Wang Anning who opened the door.

"I’ve been so looking forward to seeing you all! Oh, Jiqin, congratulations! Now that Huai Zheng is married, you’ve completed all your duties!"

"Not quite. Huai Zheng and Zhaozhao haven’t had a child yet."

"The young couple is still young, there’s no rush," Wang Anning said with a smile.

"Mm, but to be honest, I’m really looking forward to it. Huai Zheng and Zhaozhao are both so good-looking, can you imagine how beautiful their child will be?"

Su Zhaozhao listened to their conversation, feeling a little speechless.

’It seemed all elders were like this, treating the younger generation’s marriage and childbearing as their personal mission.’

’Once that step was done, they would declare their mission finally complete.’

’But she really had no idea who assigned them this mission in the first place.’

’How bizarre.’

After greeting Su Zhaozhao and Xie Huaizheng, Wang Anning pulled Huang Jiqin to walk ahead with her, and the two chatted as they went.

Su Zhaozhao reached out, her fingers hooking around Xie Huaizheng’s. She looked up at him. "I’m a little scared."

’Back then, she had only thought about marrying Xie Huaizheng to see if she could change her rotten luck—at the very least, to stop constantly running into danger.’

’She never expected that after getting married, she would immediately face pressure to have children.’

’But... she had never thought about having children...’

’At least, not in the next three years. Impossible.’

"Don’t be afraid. I’ll handle everything. I don’t want our Zhaozhao to become a mother so soon, either."

Xie Huaizheng gave Su Zhaozhao a reassuring look.

’He hadn’t had enough of their life as a couple yet, either.’
