Harem System: Spending Money On Women For 100% Rebate!

Chapter 315 - 315: Assassination Attempt S-!?

Cleopatra was in a dire situation that could ultimately cost her everything she had fought for, yet she didn’t look scared. She wasn’t just some rich lady with the resources to satisfy her needs—this wasn’t the first time someone had come after her life—but the fact that it came right after meeting Kyle was troubling.

She knew the Mafia was keeping tabs on him, and Cleopatra wasn’t naïve enough to think this wasn’t a possibility.

The men got closer, but they didn’t stop shooting. They riddled the car with bullets, but she and her men had managed to exit the vehicle and take cover behind it.

Cleopatra had training; she wasn’t new to combat and had been trained by some of the best instructors around the world during her formative years.

She was handed one of the more reliable semi-automatic rifles known to man, namely the Daniel Defence DDM4 V7. This one was gold-plated, implying it was her preferred weapon, personally owned.

The men closed in, but Cleopatra gestured for her men to wait. It wasn’t the time to strike back, at least not yet.

And suddenly, one of the assailants dropped. Cleopatra hadn’t travelled with all her security in a linear formation. There was a man positioned far off, someone Kyle had noticed earlier. He had kept his distance during this trip because his strength lay in his sniping ability.

Cleopatra had anticipated something like this, though she hadn’t known just how desperate her enemies were to take her off the board.

The moment the assailants were distracted, Cleopatra and her team opened fire, killing all but one.

The sniper she had under her payroll had once been one of the best in the military during his time, but life after the military hadn’t been kind to him, like so many other veterans.

However, there was one more thing that set him apart from the others: he loved to kill. It was the only thing he truly knew how to do.

That was exactly why Cleopatra hired him. His habit of keeping distance was something he requested in every mission, and it had carried over into this one as well.

It was effective. Cleopatra had called Kyle out here as bait, and the fact that the enemy took it showed they now had the power to challenge her directly.

She had kept her identity under wraps to separate her public image from the one these criminals knew.

The last man standing didn’t try to defend himself. He bit off his tongue and died in the process.

“Well, that was an overreaction…” Cleopatra said, staring at his body. But this meant one thing: it was war.

The fact that Cleopatra had survived the encounter with minimal injuries was nothing short of a miracle, though it was partly due to the knowledge and experience of the ex-military man in her ranks.

She had trusted him, and that decision had paid off—she had survived an attempt on her life.

The assailants had nothing incriminating on them. They were clean, which showed they had prepared for this possibility. However, she didn’t need evidence—she already knew who had sent them.

Still, all that occupied Cleopatra’s mind now was the delay in her schedule due to the mess.

Kyle was unaware of all this and was living in a world of his own, but Cleopatra’s attack would inadvertently put him on the Mafia’s list.

She was one of the more dangerous individuals out there, but the fact that Kyle knew her—and had actively met with her—made him untrustworthy.

The Mafia would continue to watch him, but the real question remained: who had sent the assailants?

If it wasn’t Cleopatra, and it wasn’t the Mafia, then who was behind it?

This nagged at the back of Kyle’s mind. He also wondered if he should tell Ella about meeting her sister, knowing she wouldn’t appreciate finding out through someone else.

If their roles were reversed, he’d feel the same way. But Kyle had no idea if this was even something he should bring her into.

He was well aware of the dangers tied to his life, and one wrong piece of information could drag her into the mess.

Ella was asleep in his arms, but Kyle’s mind was racing. He was caught in the middle of something he didn’t know how to navigate.

If, by some miracle, he managed to kill Marcello, there was no way he’d live to tell the tale—the remnants of the family would make sure he took his last breath that same day.

On the bright side, it would prevent a war that would no doubt claim a high number of civilian casualties.

But if he didn’t kill Marcello and instead informed him of Cleopatra’s intent to have him killed, it could bring him closer to the boss. And through that, he might be able to take out two monsters at once.

He still had Priscilla—his trump card—and he planned to release her once he had weakened the Mafia enough.

As for the other family heads, Kyle had no doubt there would be someone—an odd man or woman—looking at Marcello’s position with envy.

That was how it always went in these kinds of power structures. There was always a dreamer in the ranks who believed they could do a better job.

Kyle knew he had to find out who that person was—and fast.

That was the only feasible way to take Marcello out. He would have to utilise another evil.

Kyle ran countless simulations in his head and always arrived at the same conclusion: this was the only way.

There was one person he knew he could use to gather information—Alfredo.

Kyle could tell Alfredo was scared of him, and he could exploit that fear.

The last person on Kyle’s mind right now was Calista. She was the least important factor in his life, despite the drama circulating online.

Kyle had one mission on his mind and understood he wouldn’t have had this opportunity if he had never met Calista.

It was his meeting with her that ultimately activated his system.
