Chapter 1701 - 1701: The consequences of her return
“Sister?” Yu Tong who had just returned home gazed at Yu Dong with her eyes widening in surprise. When Yu Dong turned and looked at her with a welcoming smile, Yu Tong let out a yelp and rushed at her.
“Oh thank goodness you are here!” Ignoring the bunch of brats who were trying to suck up to her cousin, Yu Tong threw herself in Yu Dong’s arms.
“Did something happen?” Yu Dong asked. Though she had seen it for herself, she still wanted to hear what else had gone wrong at the village.
She was quite annoyed with Ding Nuan Nuan who had turned her entire village upside down. It was the same kind of feeling one would get when they returned home and found their entire room turned upside down.
It was a really upsetting feeling.
“You have no idea!” Yu Tong pulled away from Yu Dong as she thought about the things that were happening in the village.
To be honest, in the past few days since Yu Dong left, the entire village had gradually gotten more and more weird. However, now that Yu Dong had returned, Yu Tong was quite happy about it. Now there was someone to take care of the troubles that were happening in the village, and she no longer had to worry about anyone causing trouble.
From Yu Tong, Yu Dong found out that the villagers had slowly united together and that too for the sake of Ding Naun Nuan.
A few days ago, some of them were forcing Yu Tong to let Ding Nuan Nuan’s mother get a high-paying job. Of course, Yu Tong had nothing against it but Ding Xuelan was simply a good-for-nothing, who wanted to earn a quick and easy sum of money without earning.
And that wasn’t all when Ding Xuelan came to the livestock farm, her eyes kept wandering here and there as she looked at the fresh meat that was stocked in the ice storage.
One glance and Yu Tong knew that there was something very wrong with that woman. After all, she had once befriended people like Ding Xuelan for the sake of causing trouble for Yu Dong.
Something she was still embarrassed about— anyway, she knew that hiring Ding Xuelan would cause trouble for her.
This was why Yu Tong refused to let that woman work on the livestock farm. But who would have thought that the second she refused to let Ding Xuelan work, everyone would turn against her?
They nearly went on a strike and it was only when Wu Junfen arrived and snapped at the villagers to snap out of it, did the order returned.
“There is something wrong with that family,” Yu Tong told Yu Dong as the two of them walked inside the house, Yu Tong stopped near a vat and started washing her hands while saying to Yu Dong, “In the past, Ding Nan used to be sensible enough but these days she is also going on and on about how nice and obedient her niece is.”
“Not once did I hear about her sons, which is terribly weird.”
Yu Dong narrowed her eyes and nodded grimly. “Did anything else happen?” She asked this because when she returned home, she did not see Li Hanjing. Yu Tong’s newly married husband.
Upon hearing her question, Yu Tong’s expression darkened. She straightened before wiping her hands on the small towel hanging next to the vat and replied, “It’s nothing. Grandma suddenly doesn’t like the child Hanjing gave birth to..she has been taunting Hanjing all day long —I dare not to leave him alone lest he feel even more humiliated..so the two of us are living a bit in the town for now.”
Yu Tong knew that Old Madam Yu did not mean it as she was not in the right state of mind but nonetheless, her words hurt just as much. Li Hanjing had been crying almost every day because of the things that Old Madam Yu said to him —and her heart hurt whenever she saw him crying.
If not for the fact that Murong Si had been visiting Li Hanjing and caring for the household affairs, she was certain that her entire household would have turned upside down.
However, Murong Si couldn’t come every day as he also had his family to take care of, which was why she took Li Hanjing away from the village. Even though it was rather difficult to stay in the town, at least her husband had peace of mind.
Yu Tong sighed and told Yu Dong to be prepared before walking over to the moon gate and heading over to her own courtyard, she was only staying in the town for a short while and most of her things were here, thus every time she needed something Yu Tong had to return to the village.
Watching her leave, Yu Dong shook her head and headed inside the house. She then went straight to the courtyard which belonged to Shen Li.
When she arrived at his courtyard, Shen Li was humming a soft tune while their sons slept in the cot.
Yu Dong’s eyes softened as she watched the mer fold the clothes and neatly place them on the side. She walked over to him and hugged Shen Li from behind.
“.. you are back?” Shen Li asked as he placed the neatly folded clothes on one side.
“I am,” Yu Dong sighed as she nuzzled her face into Shen Li’s neck causing goosebumps to rise all over his skin. Even though the two of them already had two kids, Yu Dong’s touch still made him feel giddy as a teen.
He shifted on the bed and turned to look at Yu Dong who raised her head and smiled at him before laying down on his lap.
Shen Li didn’t push her away instead he pushed the rest of the clothes which needed to be folded to one side and then turned to look at Yu Dong before asking, “Did you find out what is happening in the village?”
“I did,” replied Yu Dong with a sigh.
