Chapter 798: The White Hall
- The White Hall
"Really? How do we get out?"
After walking for so long without seeing an exit, Eura thought they'd be spending the night in the forest.
"I found a map on a corpse earlier. I've been looking for terrain that matches it."
Lin Ye pulled a crudely drawn, somewhat abstract map from his bag.
"You found it?"
Eura took the map and glanced at it. It was covered in minimalist lines—if Lin Ye hadn't told her, she wouldn't have even recognized it as a map.
"Mm. The curve here is somewhat similar to the way those few trees we passed earlier line up."
Lin Ye gestured on the map.
"...Huh?"
Eura stared at the curved line on the map, unable to grasp what Lin Ye was getting at."Why would those segments represent the trees? I think maybe there's something we don't know about that connects all these trees together."
Lin Ye pulled a shovel from his bag, walked over to a tree, and started digging. When the hole reached about a meter and a half deep, he hit an empty cavity.
It was a dark underground tunnel. One side led toward those buildings, and the other led in the direction Lin Ye wanted to go.
Lin Ye jumped into the tunnel. Using the light from above, he noticed some strange figures lying inside.
"Is someone sleeping here?"
Eura and Little Guardian also jumped down, and they saw the figures too.
"No. Those are probably the monsters from outside the basement last night."
Lin Ye lowered his voice.
"Will they wake up if we pass through here?"
Aside from the monsters, Eura also spotted some blurry bugs in the tunnel's corners. They seemed to be resting as well.
"Probably not. Digging up there didn't wake them. But we should still be careful."
Lin Ye took the lead. The tunnel was pitch black, so he could only feel his way forward by shuffling his feet.
The three held hands as they moved through the tunnel. Lin Ye walked quickly. With him leading the way, Eura and Little Guardian could move a little easier.
The underground tunnel network was extremely complex. Every few steps, there was a fork. Luckily, Lin Ye had memorized the map, so he only needed to follow the marked route.
The map showed a finish line. Lin Ye had no idea what it was, but he decided to check it out first.
The tunnel was filled with monsters lying around. Even when Lin Ye was careful about where he stepped, they occasionally stepped on one.
But the monsters were like corpses—completely unresponsive.
Seeing them so "peaceful," Lin Ye sped up. They had to escape the forest before nightfall, or these monsters would trap them inside the tunnel.
After about two hours, they finally reached the map's finish line. There, they found a white tunnel sloping downward.
The tunnel's ceiling was fitted with a lighting system, and bright white lights illuminated the entire passage.
The tunnel sloped at about thirty degrees. The walls and floor were made of some unknown white material.
"Do we go down?"
Eura had a terrible feeling about this tunnel. It reminded her of the room she was taken to when she met the king.
"We have no choice. Going up likely leads back to the forest. By night, those monsters behind us will wake up, and we have limited food. We can't just stay here forever."
Lin Ye stepped into the white tunnel. Suddenly, a white light screen appeared on the wall.
[Today's Visitors: 3 People]
"...Is there transportation here?"
Lin Ye asked the light screen.
The screen didn't change, but a faint sound echoed from deep within the tunnel.
A few seconds later, three white seats shot toward them at speeds far exceeding a high-speed rail, stopping right in front of them.
The entire process was nearly silent. Even when decelerating, there was no change in sound.
Lin Ye sat down on the chair in front of him. Several white seatbelts extended from the chair and strapped him in.
Eura and Little Guardian also sat down. Once all three were seated, the chairs began moving deeper into the tunnel, traveling at thousands of meters per second. Yet the passengers felt nothing—some kind of force field canceled out the effects.
There was only a faint rustling around them. They could even talk freely.
This shifted Lin Ye's perception of this world. He had thought it was a high-energy plane ruled by a feudal monarchy, but it clearly had this level of advanced technology.
"...How much longer do we have to move?"
After a few minutes, Eura couldn't hold back anymore. Because of the speed, they had already traveled an incredible distance.
"I don't know. Good thing I called for transportation, or we might starve to death in this tunnel."
Though it was also possible that the chairs would come automatically whenever someone entered the tunnel.
"Starting to slow down."
Little Guardian noticed the change in speed.
A few seconds later, the chairs stopped at the tunnel's end. The seatbelts retracted automatically.
The tunnel connected to a white hall about the size of a basketball court. Inside were two rows of white seats and a white door directly facing them.
Lin Ye entered the hall and walked up to the door. It didn't open, but a light screen appeared on the wall beside it.
[Today's Visitors: 3 People]
"Open the door."
Lin Ye tried talking to the screen.

Another message appeared on the screen.
"I'm hungry. Can you prepare some food?"
The Gluttony skill was still kicking in, and Lin Ye was about to lose it again.
This time, no new message appeared on the screen. Instead, a slot opened in the wall below it, revealing neatly arranged white tubes that looked like toothpaste.
Lin Ye picked up one of the tubes. It seemed to be some kind of food similar to an energy bar.
The tube was easy to break open. Inside was a thick, white substance.
Lin Ye squeezed the white substance into his mouth. It had no particular taste—it slid naturally into his stomach like water.
Soon, he felt full. The hunger from Gluttony briefly disappeared.
The white substance not only provided ample nutrition but also supplied the water he needed.
Eura and Little Guardian each ate a tube as well. This stuff was way better than canned food.
"You two can go rest on the chairs. I'll rest later."
The moment Lin Ye finished speaking, two of the chairs transformed into beds.
"Pretty smart. What is this place?"
Lin Ye started trying to figure out his clearance level with the screen.
[Insufficient Visitor Clearance]
The screen displayed the same message again.
