Chapter 232 - 204: Entering the Research Institute Again (2)

Chapter 232: Chapter 204: Entering the Research Institute Again (2)

"Look, it’s the kind of crate they use for energy blocks!" Neil shouted, pointing to a pile of boxes in the corner of the warehouse.

Bena and Jack hurried over and opened the crates, but their faces immediately fell with disappointment. The crates were indeed for energy blocks, but they were filled with nothing but spent ones.

Everyone looked grim. The search for energy blocks was proving more difficult than they had imagined.

Seeing the exhaustion on everyone’s faces, Bena thought for a moment and decided they should temporarily withdraw from the research institute to rest outside.

They needed to regroup and come up with a new search plan.

"Everyone, pull back from the warehouse. We’ll regroup outside and form a new plan," Bena said to everyone over the comms.

The team members filed out of the warehouse and gathered on the outskirts of the ruins.

Their faces looked somber in the moonlight.

"It looks like we need to expand our search area. There might be places we’ve missed," Bena said thoughtfully.

"Maybe we could try looking for hidden rooms or secret chambers. Sometimes important things are kept in places like that," Jack suggested.

"Good idea. We can look for clues in the logs and records from the main control room," Bena nodded.

"But we also need to be careful. There could be other unknown dangers here," he reminded them.

"Everyone, rest for a bit. Then we’re heading back into the institute," Bena ordered.

The team members sat around a campfire, ate a simple meal, and recovered their strength.

Just then, Lin Hao stood up, his eyes scanning the night sky.

"Everyone, on alert. I think I see some unusual movement," Lin Hao said in a low voice.

The others tensed up immediately, grabbing their weapons and preparing for a potential threat.

"Over there!" Neil said, pointing.

They saw shadows moving at the edge of the ruins. Something seemed to be stealthily approaching.

"Prepare for battle!" Bena ordered in a low voice.

The team quickly spread out, taking cover in various corners of the ruins and waiting for the shadows to get closer.

As the shadows drew near, they saw that they were mutated creatures, their eyes glinting with a green light in the darkness.

"Open fire!" At Bena’s command, the team immediately opened fire.

Bullets and arrows tore through the night sky, striking the mutated creatures. They let out sharp shrieks and charged the team.

The battle erupted, and the two sides clashed fiercely amidst the ruins.

The team members used the terrain of the ruins and the cover of night to their advantage, skirmishing with the mutated creatures.

Drawing on their rich combat experience, Lin Hao and Neil quickly took down several of the mutated creatures.

Meanwhile, Leo and Zhou Mei used their immense strength and fighting skill to protect the team’s rear.

In the heat of battle, Bena suddenly spotted a different kind of mutated creature. It was much larger than the others, and its eyes glowed with a red light.

"Everyone, watch out! There’s a stronger one!" Bena shouted a warning.

He raised his gun and aimed at the creature, but it was incredibly fast and easily dodged Bena’s attack.

"I’ll deal with it!" Lin Hao stepped forward, gripping his longsword tightly as he charged the creature.

The mutated creature let out a roar and lunged at Lin Hao. He swung his sword to meet it, and the two engaged in a ferocious battle.

The other team members continued to fight the remaining creatures. With their seamless teamwork and superior firepower, they gradually gained the upper hand.

After a grueling fight, Lin Hao finally found the creature’s weak spot and plunged his sword into its heart. The mutated creature let out a bloodcurdling shriek and collapsed.

At the same time, the other team members successfully eliminated all the remaining creatures. They were breathless and exhausted, but their faces beamed with the joy of victory.

"Good work, everyone," Bena said with approval. "But this is no time to rest. We need to continue the search for energy blocks."

The team members nodded. They quickly cleaned up the battlefield and then entered the research institute once again.

This time, they searched every corner of the main control room more meticulously. Finally, Lin Hao discovered a useful clue inside a folder.

"Look, there are some records here about the energy blocks," Lin Hao said, pointing to an entry on the screen.

Bena and the other team members quickly gathered around.

"According to this record, the energy blocks might be stored in a secret warehouse, and the entrance to that warehouse is in this building’s basement," Lin Hao analyzed.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s hurry to the basement!" Neil said eagerly.

Bena nodded and led the team toward the basement.

They made their way through the ruins and arrived at the entrance to the basement. The door here was shut tight, sealed with a complex password lock.

"Jack, you’re up," Bena said to him.

Jack stepped forward, examined the password lock carefully, and then took some tools out of his backpack.

"I’ve seen this kind of lock before. I should be able to handle it," Jack said confidently.

He began to work skillfully and quickly cracked the password lock. The door slowly opened, revealing a corridor leading to the secret warehouse.

The team members advanced down the corridor and arrived before the door to the secret warehouse.

This time, there was no password lock on the door, but an identity recognition system.

Bena immediately pulled out the two ID cards they had acquired earlier.

"These must be the keys to open the door."

Bena took out the higher-level ID card and placed it on the scanner next to the lock.

The next moment, the red light on the lock turned green.

However, the metal door didn’t open. Lin Hao, who was standing beside him, quickly pointed out,

"The power might be out. Captain, try giving it a pull and see if it opens."

Bena immediately put his strength into it. Sure enough, just as Lin Hao had said, the metal door was simply stuck. With a bit of force, Bena managed to pull it open.

This warehouse was much larger than the previous one. Inside, neat rows of shelves were packed with all sorts of supplies and equipment.

And what caught their eye the most were the crates of energy blocks, sitting there quietly and emitting a faint glow.

"We found them!" Neil and Jack shouted excitedly.

Bena and the other team members also broke into joyful smiles. They hurried forward and began to collect the energy blocks.

"Hurry up, everyone. We don’t know if there are other dangers here," Bena reminded them.

The team members picked up the pace and quickly gathered enough energy blocks.

"Alright, our mission is complete. Evacuate immediately," Bena ordered.

They took the energy blocks, quickly left the institute, and returned to the outskirts of the ruins.

In the moonlight, their faces were beaming with joy and pride.

"This operation was a great success. You all did an excellent job," Bena said with praise. "We not only found the energy blocks but also defeated those mutated creatures."

"Yeah, the operation went perfectly," Lin Hao added with a smile.

"Let’s head back. Our comrades at the shelter are waiting for the good news," Zhou Mei suggested.

Bena nodded and led the team on the journey back to the shelter.

They crossed the desolate wasteland under the moonlight, carrying the precious energy blocks back to the shelter.

When Ye Yun saw them return safely, having successfully brought back the energy blocks, a relieved smile appeared on his face.

"You’ve done well. This operation was a great success," Ye Yun praised.

"Yes, we ran into some difficulties, but we overcame them all," Bena said with a smile.

"These energy blocks will be a huge help to our shelter," Ye Yun said, his eyes glinting as he looked at them.

"Yes. These energy blocks will significantly boost our technological level and productivity," Bena said with a nod.

"You’ve all worked hard. Go get some rest for now. Tomorrow, we’ll properly celebrate this success," Ye Yun said to the team.

The team members nodded. Although they were exhausted, their hearts were filled with joy and pride.

Thanks to their efforts, the shelter had taken another solid step toward prosperity.
