Chapter 199: Chapter 161: Successful Experiment, Human Trials
"This is an eye for an eye," Wang Jun said, feeling no qualms whatsoever. Then he pressed on, "Has your base figured out the Evolution Potion?"
"Just about," Ren Yuanyang replied. "We’re preparing to conduct live-subject experiments, so we need your help."
Wang Jun was stunned. He quickly asked, "Alright. What do you need us to do?"
"It’s simple," Ren Yuanyang said, briefly explaining his plan. "We’ll prepare three different types of potions, one hundred and fifty doses in total. You need to mix them with your original Evolution Potion and inject them into one hundred and fifty subjects. After that, just observe them and report the results back to us. We’ve used up all the Evolution Potions you provided, so you’ll have to do the mixing yourselves."
"No problem!" Wang Jun agreed.
"One more thing," Ren Yuanyang added. "Make sure you have enough firepower guarding these test subjects!"
Wang Jun froze for a moment. "Are you saying they’ll all become Evolvers?"
"Pretty much," Ren Yuanyang replied nonchalantly.
That floored Wang Jun. "Are you telling me your Evolution Potion has a one-hundred-percent success rate?"
"On lab mice, yes. We can’t be sure about humans, which is why we need to run this test."
Ren Yuanyang’s casual reply completely shattered Wang Jun’s composure.
But he didn’t voice any doubts, simply replying, "Alright, I understand. We will give you our full cooperation for the live-subject experiments. How do you plan on getting the Evolution Potions to us?"
"Once the potions are ready on our end, I’ll let you know the location," Ren Yuanyang replied.
"Alright. I’ll be waiting to hear from you," Wang Jun said with a nod.
After finishing his chat with Ren Yuanyang, Wang Jun immediately shared the news in the captains’ group chat.
"Does this mean they’ve actually succeeded?" Even Long Zhan, who had always trusted Peach Blossom Base, found it hard to believe they had developed the Evolution Potion so quickly.
"I think they must have," Wang Jun said with a nod. "Otherwise, there would be no reason for them to request live-subject trials."
It took Ji Yizhi a moment to process this. "How is that possible?" he said, utterly shocked. "It’s only been two days, and they’ve already succeeded?"
Long Zhan laughed. "Last time, they said they’d have results in a few days. Two days doesn’t seem that far-fetched!"
"You all heard him," Wang Jun said in a low voice. "According to Ren Yuanyang, their tests on lab mice were one hundred percent successful. If that’s true, then there’s a very high chance it will work on humans without any issues."
The other two men nodded in agreement.
"Plus, he specifically warned us to keep a close watch on the subjects who receive their formulated Evolution Potion," Ji Yizhi continued his analysis. "That implies there’s a very high probability those subjects will become Evolvers!"
"I can hardly wait," Long Zhan asked with a grin. "Can I come and watch the experiment?"
"Of course," Wang Jun agreed with a nod. "In fact, you should bring all of your Evolvers. If all one hundred and fifty of these people become Evolvers, they’ll be an incredibly powerful force. We’ll need sufficient strength to keep them in check."
"So, when do the experiments start?" Long Zhan was already rubbing his hands together, looking as if he wanted to participate himself.
"We have to wait for the notification from Peach Blossom Base," Wang Jun explained. "They’ll send their part of the potion over, and we’ll mix it ourselves before injecting it into the subjects."
"Aren’t they worried we’ll analyze the potion’s ingredients if they do this?" Ji Yizhi asked with a slight frown.
Long Zhan burst out laughing. "I’d bet that even if you figure out the ingredients, you still won’t be able to replicate it!"
"I wouldn’t be so sure," Ji Yizhi speculated. "Peach Blossom Base is definitely using technology from the Dragon Country, just like us. Our only problem right now is that we can’t find the substance that mitigates the Evolution Potion’s harsh effects. If we can identify that substance, there’s a good chance we can produce it ourselves!"
"How about we make another bet?" Long Zhan said, grinning at Ji Yizhi.
"No bet!" Ji Yizhi refused flatly. He no longer dared to make any assertions about Peach Blossom Base. It seemed all his previous judgments had been wrong.
"So you’ve finally learned your lesson!" Long Zhan said with a laugh.
Ji Yizhi pursed his lips but continued to press his point. "I still think we should hold back a portion of the potion for analysis. Otherwise, our entire effort to create an Evolution Potion will be completely at the mercy of Peach Blossom Base."
Wang Jun didn’t answer immediately, instead turning to Long Zhan. "What do you think, Captain Long?"
Long Zhan shrugged. "Honestly, I don’t think it’s worth the effort. But I know you won’t be satisfied unless you try, so go ahead and analyze it. I’d advise you not to get your hopes up, though. Even if you figure out what’s in it, I doubt you’ll be able to produce it."
Wang Jun nodded slightly. "Then let’s give it a try. We’ll have our researchers attempt to replicate the potion from Peach Blossom Base."
Back at Peach Blossom Base, Hua Lingfang quickly finished brewing three different types of licorice soup. Each batch was enough to formulate at least fifty-five doses of the Evolution Potion.
This time, he didn’t brew the triple-strengthened licorice soup. Instead, he opted for three other varieties: a single-strengthened licorice soup, a single-strengthened baked licorice soup, and a double-strengthened licorice soup.
This way, the test subjects were sure to have a rough time, but it would also allow them to test the effects of the licorice soup-based Evolution Potion on the human body. It was killing two birds with one stone.
These were the three decoctions Ren Yuanyang had decided on beforehand to provide to the Aircraft Carrier Base for the live-subject experiments.
