Chapter 406: Chapter 226: Two Methods (Two in One) _1
While Chen Mo was still grumbling, the Heavenly Dao’s notification promptly sounded.
[The Heavenly Path’s Hint: You have entered the assessment space; the assessment task has been issued!]
[Task Hint: Slay the demon wreaking havoc in this realm using the Power of Darkness!]
[The Heavenly Path’s Hint: Please find a way to dispel the encroaching darkness. Otherwise, the enemy will possess invincible power within the darkness.]
[The Heavenly Path’s Hint: Once the assessment begins, a 24-hour countdown will start. Please be ready.]
As the Heavenly Path’s hints concluded, Chen Mo extended his senses to perceive his surroundings. He was surrounded by complete darkness and unable to see anything, so he could only rely on his perception to move.
To his surprise, the villagers in this village were able to move freely in the dark environment.
It seems that there is indeed some kind of Power of Light hidden in this village within this assessment space. It was impossible that everyone in the village—men and women, young and old—possessed perception ability.
With this in mind, Chen Mo decided to find someone to ask for the reason. Relying on his perception ability, he quickly found the location of the village chief.
With a mere thought, he activated Divine Flicker and appeared beside the village chief.
“Village Chief, greetings. I heard a demon is causing trouble in this area, so I’ve come to inquire about the situation.”
As Chen Mo arrived before the village chief, he greeted him politely.
“Greetings, brave Adventurer. You can move freely in this dark environment, yet I sense no Power of Light from you. It seems you command profound Dark Power.”
Chen Mo gave a wry smile. He was the Dominator of the Undead, a purely dark-elemental class, but he did not possess the ability to see in the darkness.
It could be that the related ability hadn’t been unlocked yet, or perhaps it required the vision of a summoned Ghost for me to see in the darkness. He wasn’t quite as formidable as the village chief made him out to be.
The village chief continued, “Unfortunately, the demon wreaking havoc upon this world commands exceedingly strong Dark Power. He can never be eradicated until the darkness is dispelled.”
“Then, is there any way to dispel the darkness? I just perceived that everyone in the village seems to be able to move freely in the darkness. Has everyone mastered some form of the Power of Light?”
“That’s right. Everyone in our village can see in the dark because a Mage in white robes who visited our village previously taught us the Consideration Technique.”
“Is it easy to learn?”
“Very simple. If you want to learn it, I can teach you now.”
Hearing this, Chen Mo understood. Even if he didn’t have perception ability, he could still be taught the Consideration Technique by any villager he encountered, allowing him to see the surrounding environment clearly. The Heavenly Dao setting up such a minor task would, at most, just waste a little of his clearance time.
However, this white-robed Mage seemed to be a key figure in the task. Chen Mo promptly asked, “Is that white-robed Mage still in the village?”
“I’m very sorry, but the white-robed Mage left the village after teaching us the Consideration Technique.”
At these words, Chen Mo was rendered speechless. Where was he supposed to find clues to dispel the darkness now?
“But before he left, he mentioned that…”
Seeing the village chief pause dramatically for breath, Chen Mo was momentarily taken aback. So, there was more to it.
“What did he mention?”
“Before he left, he said that the mountain behind the town is an excellent place for cultivation. He mentioned he might cultivate there for some time and asked us not to disturb him unnecessarily, lest it affect his training.”
I see.
Although he said not to disturb him if there was nothing important, eradicating the demon creating darkness surely counted as a major matter, right? Finding him should reveal the way to dispel the darkness.
Having bid farewell to the village chief, Chen Mo pulled out his map, glanced at it, and then, with a Divine Flicker, arrived at the back mountain. The back mountain of the town was quite vast.
Even with his perception ability fully active, he could only scan less than one percent of the entire back mountain at a time. Chen Mo immediately took to the air, his perception sweeping over the surrounding valleys and forests.
After scanning several areas, Chen Mo finally located an elderly man in white robes within a cave.
This must be the white-robed Mage the village chief mentioned.
Considering the Mage had previously instructed the village chief not to be disturbed without good reason, Chen Mo refrained from abruptly using Divine Flicker to appear directly beside him. Instead, he used Divine Flicker to reach the cave entrance and waited quietly for a moment.
He didn’t even call out to announce his presence to the white-robed Mage inside.
Chen Mo considered that statements made by individuals within this trial instance, however casually uttered, could very well be crucial clues for the task. If he inadvertently provoked the Mage and was refused instruction, wouldn’t that be a terrible setback? Especially since the previous clearance rate for this trial was only 50%; he could infer a few things from this. The BOSS of this trial instance was invincible in darkness. If he couldn’t find a way to dispel it, then even if he couldn’t be killed, it was a problem. The opponent being unable to kill him was one thing, but him being unable to kill the opponent was another entirely. As long as the opponent survived, they would effectively win. He only had 24 hours to complete the trial.
Chen Mo naturally didn’t want to make a mistake that would render the task impossible to complete.
Although Chen Mo didn’t really believe that an accidental disturbance would genuinely cause the task to become incompletable. After all, such a condition seemed overly strict.
