Chapter 399: Serval: "Don’t Compare Me to the Boss!"
Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Serval: "Don’t Compare Me to the Boss!"
Both Kamisato Ayaka and Kitsune Saiguu were eager to learn swordsmanship.
Even Chiyo looked tempted to join in.
Serval and Clara, however, weren’t nearly as enthusiastic.
They weren’t Xianzhou natives, nor were they from Inazuma, so they naturally didn’t share the same obsession with swordsmanship.
Although the duel between Jingliu and Raiden Ei had been spectacular, to them, it was simply impressive.
Neither of them had any thoughts of becoming sword immortals or martial arts masters.
What did catch their attention, however, were the ancient ruin machines scattered throughout Inazuma.
The Xianzhou also had automatons, but those belonged to the government.
Naturally, neither of them would recklessly study those.
Whether they could reverse-engineer them was one thing—if someone misunderstood their intentions, that would become a serious issue.
Those machines were directly related to Xianzhou’s public security.
So despite their curiosity, both Clara and Serval had only observed them from a distance.
The ruin machines in Teyvat were different.
In a nation that clearly lacked electricity—and even appeared less technologically advanced than Belobog—the existence of such ingenious mechanical constructs fascinated them.
When they learned these machines weren’t government property, and were instead hostile monsters,
Serval immediately relaxed.
She quickly found an opportunity, defeated a Ruin Grader, and dragged it over.
As a Pathstrider, she didn’t possess overwhelming power like Raiden Ei, who could alter the heavens.
But dealing with a single Ruin Grader?
That was hardly a challenge.
These things weren’t nearly as dangerous as the Fragmentum monsters back home.
Soon enough, she and Clara began studying how the machine actually worked.
After all, how did something that looked like it had simply been assembled from giant stones
move so naturally?
Serval was immensely curious.
Clara eagerly assisted beside her.
Raised by Svarog, Clara possessed exceptional mechanical knowledge herself.
Even maintenance and replacement of internal components within the robot settlement—
including Svarog himself—had always been her responsibility.
In terms of mechanical engineering, she was hardly inferior to Serval.
That delighted the rock-loving older sister.
"I never expected someone your age to have such incredible technical skills."
"How about working with me in the future?"
After all, she still owned a mechanical workshop.
Her younger brother commanded the Silvermane Guards.
Her younger sister loved traveling the world.
She herself now headed Belobog’s research institute.
Leaving the workshop abandoned felt like a waste.
If Clara wanted it, Serval was perfectly willing to hand it over.
"Work together with Big Sister Serval...?"
Clara instinctively glanced toward Su Ran, hesitating.
"Hey, hey, hey!"
"Don’t make that face!"
"My abilities are nowhere near the Boss’s."
"If you’re comparing me to him, I’m going to get depressed."
Seeing Clara instinctively look toward Su Ran before answering
really made Serval’s heart ache.
Comparing her
to someone capable of ending Jarilo-VI’s eternal winter?
That was setting the bar impossibly high.
"I’m sorry..."
"Clara didn’t mean to..."
Clara immediately realized that her little subconscious gesture might have hurt Serval’s feelings.
Within Belobog,
Serval absolutely deserved to be called a genius.
But placed in the wider universe, she wasn’t nearly that exceptional.
And comparing herto Su Ran—a bona fide member of the Genius Society—
was even more unfair.
According to the IPC’s internal evaluations,
Su Ran’s value
had already surpassed Herta’s.
"I know."
"You’re such a sweet little girl."
"How could you possibly have meant anything bad?"
Among all the children she’d ever met, Clara was by far the most well-behaved.
It was honestly hard to believe such a kind child had grown up in the chaotic Underworld.
"I’ve got a mechanical workshop up in the Overworld."
"If you’re interested..."
"I’ll give it to you."
With her current position in Belobog, she hardly had any use for the place anymore.
Giving it to Clara would at least keep it from falling into disrepair.
"Don’t worry."
"Your big sister here owns plenty."
"A workshop is nothing."
"If you don’t accept it, I’ll only worry it’ll end up abandoned."
Serval could already tell Clara wanted to refuse this unexpected gift.
So she immediately cut off every possible excuse.
The Landau family was one of Belobog’s noble houses.
Her former best friend had once been the Supreme Guardian, and was now the Governor.
Her younger brother commanded the military.
How could she possibly be short on money?
Before Clara even had the chance to decline, Serval had already blocked her reasoning.
If she refused, the workshop would simply go unused.
To Clara, that kind of waste was simply unacceptable.
"...Clara understands."
"Thank you, Big Sister."
"Hahaha!"
"Don’t worry."
"As long as I’ve got food to eat, you won’t go hungry."
"...Though, with the Boss around, Belobog probably won’t have to worry about famine ever again."
The advantages Su Ran had given Belobog were simply absurd.
Even someone like Cocolia could now confidently lead Belobog toward prosperity.
As long as she didn’t suddenly lose all common sense, there was no chance Belobog would fail.
Serval was filled with hope for her homeland’s future.
More importantly, their boss was rich.
And generous.
Just a few days ago, she’d heard from Cocolia that visitors from beyond the stars had come to collect an enormous debt.
A truly astronomical sum.
Even Serval had felt a chill after seeing the string of numbers.
Yet Su Ran had casually replied, "We can pay it."
That single sentence made Serval realize their boss’s wealth was anything but ordinary.
Running an entire planet, to him, seemed no different than Serval owning a little repair shop— just something to play around with.
With a boss like that, how could Belobog possibly not prosper?
"Come on, Clara!"
"Today your big sister is going to teach you everything I know about mechanical engineering!"
"My brother and sister have absolutely no talent for this."
"Whether my craftsmanship gets passed down..."
"...depends entirely on you!"
Serval rolled up her sleeves, looking at the disabled Ruin Grader lying on the ground.
"Clara will do her best!"
Since Big Sister Serval had entrusted her with such responsibility, Clara immediately resolved to devote herself wholeheartedly to learning.
After all, she had to prepare herself to inherit Serval’s mechanical workshop one day.
