First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2592 - Fury and Hatred

Chapter 2592 – Fury and Hatred

The purple-robed, golden-crowned man just stood there casually. He showed no sign of an imposing aura.

Yet heaven and earth were suffocatingly stifled. The very air itself seemed to congeal, making it hard to breathe.

Mu Bai, Ji Heng, and Jian Dushan’s gazes were more solemn than ever before.

“Man resonates with the heavens, and connects his heart to the Dao,” Su Yi said softly. “Are you perhaps from the River of Destiny?”

His gaze was as tranquil as before, as if the transformations of heaven and earth meant nothing to him.

“Is that your first question?” asked the purple-robed, golden, crowned man.

Su Yi inclined his head. “That’s right.”

The purple-robed man just said “That’s right” right back, admitting that Su Yi’s guess was right on the mark.

“My Daoist title is Qing Li, and I’m from the Three Purities Temple. The ‘me’ standing before you is merely an avatar of my will,” said the purple-robed, golden-crowned man, Qing Li. “Its ‘flesh’ is manifested from an Undying secret treasure. My avatar serves as its soul, controlling it from within. This lets me escape the power of the God Domain’s source.”

Qing Li of the Three Purities Temple!

Or rather, an avatar of his will!

There was no need to even question it. Qing Li was undoubtedly a true Limitless Dao Lord, a terrifying existence of the Path of Eternity.

He was quite honest; it seemed as if he disdained to lie. He even explained the current state of his body. This also made his confidence readily apparent.

Su Yi suddenly recalled something.

Back then, after killing Master God Yun He, the supreme sect-protecting treasure of the Three Purities Daoist Court upped and fled, only for the heart devil in the rusted sheath to block its path.

That battle shook the entire Spirit Firmament Divine Continent. Terrifying visions of the River of Destiny appeared throughout the God Domain.

It was also then that Su Yi realized several things. For example, the avatar of will inside the Greater Purity Seal originated from the River of Epochs, and its owner had sworn an Eternal Pact in the All-Profound Dominion.

Due to the constraints of their vow, experts like the Three Pure Ones, the Four Heavenly Ministers, the Five Elders, and the Six Celestials couldn’t intervene in the alternation of the epochs.

Su Yi instantly connected Qing Li’s appearance here to the Eternal Pact, as well as the Greater Purity Seal.

Su Yi promptly asked, “Did you ever hide yourself in the Greater Purity Seal?”

Qing Li shook his head. “That wasn’t me. Rather, it was one of my seniors in the Three Purities Temple.”

He paused, then said, “That was your second question.”

“Oh,” said Su Yi. He then launched straight into his third question. “Did you plant anything in their bodies?”

Qing Li nodded. “Yes. I can kill them at will whenever I please.”

He looked at Jian Dushan and said, “If I want him dead, no one in heaven or earth can save him.”

Jian Dushan looked stricken, and a chill coursed down his spine.

Practically simultaneously, Su Yi appeared in front of Jian Dushan out of nowhere and reached for his shoulder.

Bang!

Countless gashes suddenly tore open all over Jian Dushan’s body. Blue divine flames poured through the cuts, enveloping him completely.

Within moments, Jian Dushan had been destroyed, body and soul!

He couldn’t even react, let alone struggle. He was an expert who’d touched the threshold of Eternity, yet he’d died just like that, right in front of Su Yi.

Su Yi reacted immediately, but he was still just a bit too late. All he managed to seize were a few fragments of Jian Dushan’s shattered soul.

Furthermore, they were already on fire. In the blink of an eye, even they vanished from his grip.

Su Yi froze in place, irrepressible, explosive fury rising in the depths of his Dao Heart.

His expression remained outwardly calm, but the depths of his gaze were even icier than before.

“Ol’ Jian!!!” Ji Heng’s eyes went bloodshot, and he practically went mad with fury. Veins bulged on his forehead.

Mu Bai pursed his lips and clenched his fists.

Jian Dushan had died so suddenly that none of them could react in time. By the time they realized what was happening, it was too late.

Mu Bai couldn’t even imagine it. How could someone who’d long since stood at the pinnacle of the Undying Realm have died instantaneously?

More than that, he… found it hard to accept!

The little red snake hanging from Qing Li’s left ear flicked its tongue, the depths of its blue-green gaze full of mockery and disdain.

Heaven and earth were still. All of creation fell silent.

“If you care more about your friends and family than you do the Grand Dao, your friends and family will inevitably drag you down, just like they are now!” Qing Li looked at Su Yi as if eager for answers. “Are you angry? Does it hurt?”

Su Yi disregarded him. Instead, he used his hand as a sword and severed one hand from both Mu Bai and Ji Heng!

Blood splattered the air.

Mu Bai and Ji Heng looked flabbergasted, as if they couldn’t believe or imagine why Su Yi would attack them out of nowhere.

Su Yi just waved his sleeve and put the hands away before saying. “I’ll bring you both back one day.”

His voice was low and a bit hoarse.

Qing Li shook his head. “It’s useless. I used Jade Purity Dao Fire. There’s no way you can use their blood or remnants of their souls to bring them back.”

He gestured to Ji Heng. “If you don’t believe me, just watch.”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, Ji Heng’s hand shattered, enveloped in dazzling blue flames, then fell through the gaps between Su Yi’s fingers.

He was completely destroyed, body and soul!

“Senior Ji Heng!” Mu Bai cried out, overcome with grief and agony.

Over the past few years, Ji Heng and Jian Dushan had taken good care of him, caring for him and guiding him as they might their own disciple. During his time exploring the God Domain, they’d accompanied him every step of the way, protecting him in secret.

Mu Bai knew this, and he was deeply grateful.

Yet now, both seniors were dead!

They’d died right in front of him!

They couldn’t even struggle before they died, let alone say their last words!

“See that? Trying to hold onto at least a hand is futile,” said Qing Li. “Actually, on the River of Destiny, it’s common knowledge that destiny itself ends beneath Jade Purity Dao Fire. Even Eternals are destroyed, let alone the Undying.”

He spoke without disdain, as if simply describing a fact, but that’s exactly what made it seem so cold, cruel, and terrifying.

Su Yi ignored him. As Qing Li spoke, Su Yi stretched out of his hand and reached for Mu Bai, pulling his soul out of his body.

“You haven’t given up yet? But then, that’s to be expected. That’s just how people are; your humanity makes you act this way.” Qing Li sighed and shook his head.

Boom!

Mu Bai was enveloped in divine flames. Even his extracted soul caught ablaze, burning to ash in Su Yi’s hands.

In his last moments, Mu Bai opened his mouth as if to say something. He looked utterly frantic.

But in the end, he couldn’t produce a single sound. His soul scattered in the blink of an eye.

Su Yi saw it all clearly. He could tell that Mu Bai had been trying to urge him to flee.

Heart-rending pain coursed through Su Yi’s entire body.

All at once, he’d lost two brothers-in-arms, old friends he could face life and death with, as well as a junior he valued highly.

How could Su Yi possibly remain unmoved after a blow like that? He wasn’t made of wood, nor was his heart a stone. He’d always disdained to sever his humanity in pursuit of the Grand Dao.

Perhaps that was why he experienced that agony, hatred, and frustration with such incomparable intensity.

“If you cannot sever the shackles of humanity, you cannot enter Eternity,” Qing Li said wistfully. “Do you feel the fetters of your humanity now?”

He looked at Su Yi, hunting for changes in his expression as if eager to see him lose control, flip out, and fly off the handle.

But… none of that happened. Su Yi just stood there quietly, his gaze as tranquil as the waters of an ancient well. It didn’t budge in the slightest.

He was so calm that it seemed downright unnatural.

“It doesn’t matter. I’ll continue seeking revenge against you, ending those around you one and one. For instance, I heard you have a son?” Qing Li laughed. “Once I’ve killed everyone you love most, you might understand what it means to be truly alone, and what it means…”

He gazed intently at Su Yi, then said slowly and clearly, “…to lose everything!”

His voice was utterly playful.

Su Yi put away his jug of wine in silence. He hadn’t said anything since Jian Dushan, Ji Heng, and Mu Bai died.

He was so calm that it almost seemed like none of this had anything to do with him. He showed no sign of losing control.

Suddenly, he turned around and looked at Qing Li.

Qing Li’s pupils silently constricted.

Boom!

Su Yi attacked. He silently vanished in place, swinging his fist like a sword, and cleaved into Qing Li.

It was a simple punch, but it erupted like a volcano erupting beneath the surface of the ocean. It was imbued with Su Yi’s strongest powers of the Grand Dao.

It was also imbued with Su Yi’s hatred and fury!

A glittering golden talisman suddenly appeared in front of Qing Li’s body. The words “Averting Disasters and Suppressing Demons” were written on its surface in ancient glyphs. The talisman’s glow shook both heaven and earth.

An air of Eternity emanated from it!

The little red snake stirred. It was completely bewildered. The Disaster-Averting, Demon Suppressing Talisman! That’s one of Qing Li’s killer weapons. How could he use it right off the bat?

It had only just thought this when… Boom!!!

The talisman’s text suddenly dimmed, and the talisman split and broke.

Su Yi’s fist continued with unstoppable force, slamming into Qing Li’s chest.

Bang!!!

Qing Li’s body exploded into pieces and scattered into a rain of light.

The fist created a massive chasm where he’d been standing, so deep that there was no bottom in sight. It stretched seemingly endlessly into the distance.

The sky collapsed on both sides of the chasm, shaking both heaven and earth.

The ruins of the Three Purities Daoist Court were completely enveloped in explosive, terrifying sword force.

One punch had blasted Qing Li to bits, devastating the entire area!
