Chapter 2589 - Purple Robes, a Golden Crown

Chapter 2589 – Purple Robes, a Golden Crown

People said that Stargather Mountain was so tall that those who stood on the peak could reach out and pluck the stars.

Of course, that wasn’t true, but the mountain really was tall, so tall that it towered into the dome of heaven. The dense clouds hovered just halfway up its slopes.

This was Di E’s territory.

Die E looked over a message the Dipankara Buddha had sent. His brow furrowed.

Someone wanted to drag Su Yi underwater, while Su Yi wanted to drag the entire Western Paradise Spirit Mountains underwater.

If the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains were dragged underwater, wouldn’t they drag the newly established New World Alliance down with them?

If that happened, the factions of spacetime forbidden zones would be beside themselves with delight. That way, they could watch tigers fight from the safety of the mountainside, then swoop in to reap the benefits!

Di E reacted just as the Dipankara Buddha did—with disgust.

The whole situation was simply repulsive!

A long time passed before Di E expressionlessly issued orders. “Send our forces to investigate. Figure out which malicious bastard killed Divine Corpse Blood Robe. I need an answer within seven days’ time.”

“Understood!” A golden-robed bald eagle voiced its assent, blurred into a beam of light, and shot off.

……

Now that Di E had given his orders, the entire New World Alliance got to work.

The forces of the Qilin Trading Company began their investigation practically simultaneously.

Dark currents swept across the entire God Domain.

Su Yi, meanwhile, waited quietly in the Qilin Trading Company.

His heart was heavy, because he’d already tried to contact his friends exploring the outside world and warn them of the danger. One by one, all of them had responded…

…except for Mu Bai, Jian Dushan, and Ji Heng.

Jian Dushan and Ji Heng had followed Su Yi out of the Boundless Battlefield, just like Wen Qingfeng.

When Mu Bai set off on his adventures, Jian Dushan and Ji Heng accompanied him, protecting him in secret.

But now, there was no response from any of them!

This filled Su Yi’s heart with foreboding. After all, Divine Corpse Blood Robe’s killer had left a note saying that he’d kill Mu Bai next!

Su Yi’s gaze silently grew sharp and imposing.

Who in the God Domain didn’t understand how he did things? Who didn’t know what his bottom line was?

Yet now, this mysterious killer was repeatedly provoking him and touching his reverse scale!

There was no way Su Yi could tolerate it.

Venting your wrath on the innocent was a taboo. If the killer was unprincipled enough to target people like Mu Bai, he’d surely resort to other unsavory means in his bid for revenge, too!

……

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent, in a stretch of ruin.

“Look at that! Those are the ruins of the Three Purities Daoist Court.”

A group of cultivators stood in the distance, gazing at the ruins. The leader, an old man, sighed. “A few years ago, Sword Venerate Su and his allies flattened the Three Purities Daoist Court’s ancestral ground. He fought until the skies collapsed, the earth caved in, and the ground ran red with rivers of blood.

“After that battle, the former ruling faction of the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent, the Three Purities Daoist Court, is no more. A faction that stood at the pinnacle of the God Domain for countless years fell, just like that.”

The old man sighed. “All of their past glories have been reduced to scorched earth. It’s truly lamentable.”

The other cultivators gazed at the ruins, waves of emotion coursing through their hearts.

Even now, people were still talking about that legendary battle.

Apparently, both Yun He and Yun Xiao had died in battle, as well as every other Master God in the sect. Not one had escaped death!

“But Sword Venerate Su was, in a way, quite compassionate. When he destroyed the sect, he didn’t kill the innocent,” said one of the younger cultivators. “Look at the world now. Everything’s in complete chaos, with brutal massacres breaking out all over the place. Whole families and whole races are being wiped out left and right. If only the culprits cared about the innocent the way Sword Venerate Su did.”

“I really hope that Sword Venerate Su can step forward, bring the world back under control, and end the Dark Days of Legend once and for all,” said another cultivator.

The cultivators conversed amongst themselves, all of them touched by Su Yi’s decision back then.

But then, cold laughter emanated from the depths of the ruins. “Hah.”

Everything flashed before the cultivators’ eyes as a figure appeared not far away, seemingly out of nowhere.

He wore deep purple robes and a golden crown. He carried a wooden sword carved out of pine on his back. He was tall and thin, with features as smooth as jade and eyes as clear and deep as springs. They seemed capable of reflecting all of creation.

Most unusually, a red snake as thin as a chopstick coiled around his left ear like an earring.

The snake’s eyes were blue-green, and it had a tiny pair of horns much like those of a deer. As tiny as it looked, the cultivators’ quivered uncontrollably beneath its gaze, their hearts filling with instinctual, irrepressible terror.

As if they were staring into the eyes of a god of death!

“So, you think that Su Yi, the one who destroyed the Three Purities Daoist Court… is worthy of admiration?” asked the man in purple robes and a golden crown.

His gaze was as calm and unrippling as lake water, with no hint of joy or sorrow.

The cultivators’ exchanged glances. All of them realized that something was amiss, and they were instantly on guard.

“You misunderstand, senior. Humble cultivators like ourselves are in no way qualified to make such judgments,” said the old man leading the group. He clasped his fist and bowed deeply. “If we offended you, we humbly request your magnanimity.”

“You didn’t offend me,” said the purple-robed, golden-crowned man. “So there’s no need to speak of forgiveness. I’ll just ask you this. Do you think Su Yi’s behavior when crushing the Three Purities Daoist Court was worthy of praise?”

The old man’s whole body tensed, and beads of cold sweat formed on his forehead. “Not at all, and I dare not discuss it.”

Kcch!!

A streak of firelight flashed through the air, instantly reducing the old man to ash, down to his very soul.

His companions watched in horror, all of them terrified.

The red snake coiled around the purple-robed man’s ear flicked its tongue, its blue-green eyes gazing intently at the others.

The purple-robed man disregarded it all. He just said calmly, “And what do you say?”

The other cultivators’ faces paled. They quivered from head to toe.

One of them said in a quavering voice, “Senior, we… we’re just humble, lowly folk. We truly…”

Kcch!

Another streak of firelight erupted, reducing the speaker to ash.

The red snake’s eyes shone with disdain. It shook its little head.

The blood drained from the remaining cultivators’ faces. This was supposed to be a trip to the ruins of the Three pUrities Daoist Court, that’s all. Even if you hit them over the head, they would never have guessed that they’d run into a terrifying figure who killed without so much as batting an eye!

“Senior! Su Yi was far too brutal, and men and gods alike spit upon him. He deserves to die ten thousand deaths!” A black-robed man flung himself to his knees and cried out in terror, “Please, spare us!”

The purple-robed, golden-crowned man said expressionlessly, “You change your tune at the drop of a hat. Your words cannot be trusted, and you have no backbone or virtue to speak of. What’s the point of your existence?”

Kcch!

The little red snake attacked once more, spitting a bundle of flames and reducing the man in black to ash.

The others completely broke down, flinging themselves to their knees and begging for mercy.

The purple-robed man couldn’t help but laugh coldly, but he couldn’t be bothered to say any more to them. He just turned and vanished into the ruins.

For a moment, the kneeling cultivators thought they’d escaped disaster, but a moment later, a dazzling bundle of flame descended from the heavens, incinerating them down to the last man.

Even their ashes scattered!

A little red serpent flashed through the air, then hung from the purple-robed man’s left ear once more, like a living earring.

Both man and serpent soon vanished into the ruins of the Three Purities Daoist Court.

Meanwhile, beneath the distant skies, a dust-colored sparrow emerged from a cloud.

Word of the massacre at the ruins of the Three Purities Daoist Court reached Di E on Stargather Mountain shortly after.

Di E shook his head. “He killed over a dozen experts of the Divine Dao simply for discussing how Su Yi wiped out the Three Purities Daoist Court? That man in purple robes really has a short temper.”

In the past, he wouldn’t have paid any attention to a trivial incident like this. He paid attention this time simply because the massacre was preceded by a discussion of Su Yi.

“You still haven’t found Divine Corpse Blood Robe’s killer?” asked Di E. That had been Di E’s true focus over the past few days.

Su Yi had given them just seven days, but four had passed already!

“Master, over the past few days, the forces of the New World Alliance have all left to investigate the murder. We’re investigating everything related to Su Yi and his allies, too, in hope that it might lead to clues,” said an elderly servant. “However, we’ve yet to uncover anything.”

Di E’s brow furrowed. Just who is the culprit? They’ve seriously hidden themselves this deeply?

“Who could it be? Who in this world hates Su Yi enough to seek revenge against him at this juncture?

“Alternatively, who wants to seize this opportunity to drag Su Yi underwater, all while borrowing Su Yi’s hands to throw the whole world into chaos?” Di E pondered out loud.

“Master, if we’re looking for whoever hates Su Yi most, it’s surely the Three Purities Daoist Court. It’s just a pity that they’ve long since been destroyed; they couldn’t possibly seek revenge against Su Yi even if they wanted to,” said the old servant.

“The Three Purities Daoist Court?” Di E froze, stunned.

He reviewed the message he’d just received, and a strange look appeared in his eyes.

“I understand!” Di E said gravely. “If I’m not mistaken, the killer and the person hiding in the ruins of the Three Purities Daoist Court are one and the same. The Three Purities Daoist Court has been destroyed, but not the faction of the River of Destiny backing them. Now, they’ve come to settle things with Su Yi!”

He looked at the old servant. “Send word to the Dipankara Buddha. He’ll know what to do.”

“Yes, sir!” The old servant left to carry out his orders.

Di E watched him leave, then sighed. He was starting to understand why the man in purple robes had chosen to seek revenge against Su Yi now of all times.

The Three Purities Daoist Court, the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains, and several other top factions of the God Domain were all in his camp. They were his true allies.

However, after the Three Purities Daoist Court was destroyed, the rest of the alliance had done nothing to avenge them.

Of course the faction backing them was furious. How could they not have been?

Perhaps that was why they’d chosen to seek revenge against Su Yi now of all times!

They wanted to use Su Yi as a knife. They were using his hands to drag them under water, and to throw the entire God Domain into upheaval!
