Chapter 2240 - I’ve Never Feared a Clash of Trump Cards
Chapter 2240 – I’ve Never Feared a Clash of Trump Cards
The Tree of Ten Thousand Worlds swayed, then reflected one startling vision after another.
Over on the little hillock, the young man in black and the wrinkled old man sensed it all.
“I truly hadn’t anticipated that those fellow Daoists were still alive even after tens of thousands of years,” the old man said with a sigh.
He was surprised, and impressed, too.
Su Yi had just made his move outside of the chessboard, catching everyone off guard. It was entirely unexpected, and thoroughly astonishing.
Especially now, when the onlookers watched as one ancient, formerly prominent expert appeared after another. All of them had vanished for countless years. The old man couldn’t help but think back to the distant past and sigh.
“Still, these moves were ultimately made outside of the chessboard,” the young man in black said calmly. “Surely you don’t think this sort of retaliatory action will be enough to destroy those orthodoxies?”
The old man laughed. “No, but it’s enough to serve as a warning to the rest.”
The young man said, “But now, Su Yi’s already laid all his cards out into the open. Moreover, every old-timer who stepped in to aid him will soon become a target. They cannot go back into hiding!”
Here, he paused to take a sip of tea. “A long time ago, when my fellows and I pursued Yi Daoxuan and Li Fuyou, there was something we found consistently confusing.
“Why was it that unexpected, bewildering developments always arose as we pursued them, saving them from disaster on numerous occasions?
“I’m finally starting to understand. It’s because there have always been people helping them from the shadows.
“Wan Zitian, Ol’ Blood Lake, Zang Wushu… Some have deep ties with Li Fuyou, while others knew Yi Daoxuan.
“But now, all of them have jumped out into the open. From my perspective, this is actually a good thing. At least now I know who my friends are, and who are enemies I need to eliminate!”
The old man shook his head. “You should worry about that later. Di E, no matter how capable you’ve become, you still don’t dare to remove the black cloth covering your eyes, so how can you speak of going after those people?”
Di E!
The young man in black was the very same Di E who’d almost killed Su Yi on the Road of Celestial Guidance!
“Then there’s no need to debate any further. Let’s just wait and see if Su Yi can win,” Di E said calmly.
……
Skybright Mountain was in complete uproar. Countless startled cries rang out as the crowd boiled over, like a pot blowing off its lid.
Every last scene reflected on a curtain of light contained a legendary expert, one who’d been in hiding for far, far too long.
Yet now, all of these legendary experts had revealed themselves to the world once more. Who wouldn’t have been startled?
“He really is the one who single-handedly faced every god and Buddha beneath the heavens all those years ago. To think he had so many cards hidden up his sleeves!
“No wonder he kept refusing my help. He wasn’t arrogant. Rather, he really did have reason to be confident!” Qi Wei’s eyes sparkled, and she sighed to herself repeatedly.
“It really is unexpected. I never even considered the possibility that those old-timers were still alive,” said Li Sanjiu, a rare look of bewilderment on his face. It seemed he was thinking back to the distant past.
Suddenly, Qi Wei burst into sputtering laughter. She’d just seen the look on Master God Yun He’s face. It was as dark as could be.
The other Master Gods looked enraged to the brink of madness, too, ready to fly off the handle at a moment’s notice. Their expressions were as unsightly as if they were attending their parents’ funerals.
The reason was simple. Su Yi had just sent terrifying experts to attack every last one of their factions!
They were off fighting in the front lines, only for someone to set their backyards on fire. Who could remain calm after that?
The experts of the ancient Xi Family were stunned. All of them realized that, right from the start, they’d overestimated their enemies and underestimated Su Yi!
Yi Daoxuan had once traveled the world, sword in hand, waging war against gods and buddhas.
Li Fuyou, too, had waged war across the heavens, killing until none dared fight him one-on-one!
Su Yi was the reincarnation of both of these unparalleled experts. How could someone casually look down on the methods at his disposal?
“Powerful! Powerful!” Xi Jingshan’s blood heated up just watching.
Xi Ning sensed the shift in her father’s mood. When she saw Su Yi stand alone before the crowd, smiling in the face of his enemies, ripples coursed through her heart.
Whoosh~
The curtains of light dissipated. Su Yi flipped his palm and put the Tree of All Worlds away.
All of these scenes vanished.
Master God Yun He, Master God Tian Huang, the Severed Heavens Demon Master, and the other Master Gods still struggled to calm themselves. Their faces were ashen, and their whole bodies surged with murderous intent.
The clamor of voices died down. An austere, terrifying divine majesty spread throughout heaven and earth, making it difficult to even breathe.
“Such methods might well damage our respective factions, but they won’t be enough to destroy them,” Master God Tian Huang said through gnashed teeth. “And none of this will change your situation, you bastard!”
Su Yi said calmly, “I’m doing this to draw a line in the sand. After this, I trust that everyone with a working brain will understand the consequences of crossing it.”
“Stop with all the nonsense!” roared Master God Tian Heng. “Do you have anything else up your sleeves? If so, hurry up and show us! If not, you and the Xi Family are all going to die!”
His voice boomed throughout heaven and earth. It would have been obvious to anyone that the Master Gods were enraged. They could barely contain their murderous intent.
Si Ming couldn’t help but gulp with great difficulty. This scene really was far too terrifying.
But Su Yi didn’t even seem to notice. He just said calmly, “In a clash of the Grand Dao, my current self is indeed far from a match for any of you, but… this is a clash of trump cards, and I’ve never been afraid of those.”
He’d only just said this when… Boom!
A massive blast rang out, and a flying sword shot forth, blurring into a streak of shocking golden sword light. It suddenly appeared above Su Yi’s head and slashed furiously downward.
Shao Yunke could no longer restrain himself. He couldn’t tolerate Su Yi revealing any more hidden cards, so he seized the opportunity to attack.
This strike was incomparably sudden and quick to the extreme. It happened almost instantaneously.
But then, a large hand dripping with blood appeared out of nowhere, seizing the golden flying sword and holding it fast.
The crowd was stunned.
It was only when they looked closer that they realized that the bleeding hand had emerged from the blood-red warrior’s robes Su Yi now held aloft.
When Su Yi shook his wrists, the robes whooshed into the air, then expanded into a dripping, blood-covered figure.
His entire body was covered in blood, and his hair was loose and disheveled. No one could see what he looked like. All they saw were countless blood-red talisman markings surging atop those blood-red robes.
“What is that!?” Many of the onlookers shuddered. That blood-red figure’s aura was just too malevolent. Even just standing there, they seemed to dye the entire stretch of sky red, manifesting strange visions of a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood.
Crunch!
The blood-red figure stuffed the golden flying sword into his mouth and chewed. The sword broke apart like tofu and was effortlessly devoured.
Off in the distance, Shao Yunke suffered a backlash. He suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood, and his expression shifted dramatically.
That flying sword had been his natal divine treasure, yet it had been destroyed in a flash!
The Severed Heavens Demon Master looked stricken. “Divine Corpse Blood Robe!”
Divine Corpse Blood Robe? The name meant nothing to most of those present.
However, the Master Gods looked stricken.
In the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent, there existed a forbidden zone known as the Blood Curse Ruins. It was famous throughout the God Domain.
This was because it was full of endless bloody, baleful energy and skeletons. All who entered were reduced to dried bones, even gods!
And the ruler of the Blood Curse Ruins was a terrifying entity known as Divine Corpse Blood Robe!
His whole body was brimming with cursed power, and it was practically indestructible. Moreover, he was so terrifyingly strong that even Nine-Tribulation Master Gods viewed him with dread!
But no one could imagine how Su Yi had managed to convince the ruler of the Blood Curse Ruins to come to his aid.
“So many powerful old-timers?” said Divine Corpse Blood Robe. “Li Fuyou, don’t you think you’re overestimating me?”
“You’re jumping to conclusions,” Su Yi said calmly. “I never even considered relying on you alone to turn the tides and overturn this chessboard.”
“That’s for the best. I might be untalented, but as long as I’m not fighting them all myself, killing a Nine-Tribulation Master God or two should be no problem,” Divine Corpse Blood Robe said with a grin.
His entire body was hidden in his blood-soaked robes. His hair was loose and disheveled, and his voice was high-pitched and creaky, like saw teeth rubbing together. He was extraordinarily unsettling.
Off in the distance, the Master Gods’ expressions darkened even further.
There was no denying that Su Yi’s trump cards had all come as a complete surprise. It was to the point that even they felt terrified and ill at ease!
They’d never even considered the possibility that a ferocious entity like Divine Corpse Blood Robe would willingly help Su Yi.
“Why are you willing to work for Su Yi? Aren’t you afraid of offending us?” Master God Yun He said gravely.
He wasn’t afraid of Divine Corpse Blood Robe, but he couldn’t fathom why such an unparalleled, vicious creature would join Su Yi’s cause.
Divine Corpse Blood Robe laughed coldly. “Li Fuyou can help me reincarnate. Can you do that?”
It was just one sentence, but the crowd instantly understood. It was because of Su Yi’s mastery of reincarnation!
“Hah! You think you can reincarnate and cultivate anew? Let me tell you: both you and Su Yi are going to die today!” said the Severed Heavens Demon Master with seething murderous intent.
“Is that so?” said Su Yi. “Do you think that he’s the only card I have left?”
With that, he swung his sleeve, and a worn-out palace lantern floated into the air. It was dull gray throughout, octagonal, with a seemingly eternal, cold blue flame burning on its wick.
When the lantern appeared, the crowd caught a faint glimpse of an ethereal, beautiful figure within its swaying light. However, she was incomparably indistinct.
Many of the onlookers were bewildered. Who is that?
“Indeed, so much time has passed that there’s almost no one left who remembers me.” A female voice tinged with melancholy emanated from within the lantern. “All that remains of me is a remnant of my soul. If I attack, I’ll… be able to contend with three or four Nine-Tribulation Master Gods, five at most. I hope you won’t take offense.”
The crowd was gobsmacked.
She’s just a wisp of soul, yet she can contend with multiple Nine-Tribulation Master Gods! And she’s still worried that Su Yi will take offense!?
Who is this woman? How could she say something like that so lightly and airily?
“Three to five is plenty,” said Su Yi. “I’ll remember this kindness, and I’ll be sure to repay it another day.”
“Fellow Daoist Su, I’m satisfied just hearing that,” said the woman in the lantern. When she spoke to him, she seemed polite and modest.
However, when she spoke of combat, she wasn’t polite in the slightest. “Then… when shall we begin?”
