First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2114 - A Love of Talent!

Chapter 2114 – A Love of Talent!

Unlike the last two attacks, Jian Xingyun seemed to have caught ablaze. His blood and qi roared and boiled over, and throughout his body, his bones, muscles, tendons, and skin erupted with resplendent golden light.

It was as if he were burning his very life away in a bid to take Su Yi down with him!

Most terrifying of all, he and the illusory Xuanwu fused, and his imposing aura swelled considerably once more.

He leaped into the fray, like a massive Xuanwu breaking through heaven and earth and shattering the stars in its wake!

Even Su Yi, who’d suppressed his cultivation base down to the Great Profound Stage, felt pressure bearing down on him.

Inwardly, he exclaimed, This Jian Xingyun’s Dao of Body Refining really is terrifying!

As he pondered, he no longer hesitated. He drew upon the very limit of his Great Profound Stage fleshly body. His blood and qi boiled, and his back was as straight as his sword.

When he took the ninth step and threw a punch, sword intent erupted from his fist.

Boom!

The chaos clouds rumbled. From a distance, it was as if a Dao Sword were clashing with a Xuanwu Tortoise in the clouds.

The sword was sharp and unstoppable.

The Xuanwu was bold, with unparalleled blood and qi.

They were both using Great Profound Stage cultivation, but when these two supreme powers of the flesh collided, the resulting force was enough to make Creation Realm Lesser Gods quiver in fright!

Bang!!

A rapid-fire series of explosions rang out.

Su Yi’s “slash” broke inch by inch, and sword light scattered like beams of light.

But at the same time, the surging power of Jian Xingyun’s blood and qi collapsed, broke, and withered, too!

His face paled, and his expression shifted. He didn’t even need to think to know that if he didn’t back down, it wouldn’t matter if he poured everything he had into his defenses. Su Yi’s next strike might well deal lethal damage!

How on earth did he temper such a terrifyingly powerful fleshly body? Isn’t he supposed to be a sword cultivator? Jian Xingyun’s heart shook. There was no hiding his astonishment.

But in the end, he didn’t retreat!

He gnashed his teeth and pushed himself to the limit, practically burning the very source of his life force. He’d decided to fight to the bitter end.

Boom!

His aura was instantly even more imposing. Su Yi’s incoming sword qi shattered with even greater speed.

But the power of Jian Xingyun’s blood and qi collapsed repeatedly too, and the scattering sword qi tore countless starling gashes open on his skin, which gushed fresh blood.

By the time the sword qi was just a foot away from him, there was no longer even a single inch of intact skin on Jian Xingyun’s body. His flesh had been completely pulped!

Even the illusory Xuanwu he’d fused into himself was now dim and indistinct.

But then, Su Yi suddenly sighed and waved his sleeve.

Bang!!

Jian Xingyun was sent flying backward, and he slammed to the ground several hundred feet away.

“Even if you put your life on the line, you’re no match for me. Why stubbornly go to your death?” Su Yi shook his head.

Jian Xingyun crawled to his feet with great difficulty, then stood there in a daze, his eyes dull.

He really had gone all out, but… he was ultimately just weaker than Su Yi!

“I’m here to defeat you. Why not seize this opportunity to kill me?” Jian Xingyun asked hoarsely.

Su Yi mulled that over and said, “I have a love of talent.”

Jian Xingyun froze, his calm, determined heart suddenly conflicted. “Earlier, I didn’t think you were worthy of competing with that senior, but now, it seems I was mistaken.”

He suddenly let out a deep sigh, then clasped his fist. “I admit defeat.”

A moment later, a rain of chaos light manifested from the Laws enveloped him, and he vanished from the chaos clouds of the tower’s peak.

At the same time, the clouds underwent a shocking transformation.

The Stele of Trials appeared with a bang, its surface erupting with resplendent light.

A new understanding arose in Su Yi’s heart. He’d just broken the first trial’s record, and invited a new and unknown secret trial.

In it, he’d face nine opponents.

Throughout the ages, countless epoch civilizations had vanished into nothingness. These nine were the strongest body refiners to be found in those lost epochs!

All were supreme body refiners of the Great Profound Stage. Just like Jian Xingyun, they were supreme body refiners of their epoch of origin!

If Su Yi defeated them, it would mean defeating all Great Profound Stage body refiners of the past, making him the greatest Great Profound Stage body refiner in history!

So, this is a challenge you can only attempt after breaking the tower’s record. I’ve got to fight the nine greatest Great Profound Stage body refiners in history…

Su Yi quickly understood. This had to be a test his first incarnation had left for him.

As he pondered, the Stele of Trials rumbled. Golden light arose, and a line of text appeared in midair.

“Zhu Mu, the Spirit Crossing Epoch’s greatest body refiner with peak Great Profound Stage cultivation. His true body was a Zhuyan, a divine beast born of chaos.”

As soon as the text appeared… boom!

The chaos clouds surged, thunder rumbled, and lightning flashed as a ten-foot figure condensed out of nowhere. He was big-boned, and his skin looked as if it had been forged out of bronze. His eyes shone like the sun, and his blood and qi soared into the firmament.

“Die!”

Before Su Yi could get a look at him, this terrifying figure blurred into a beam of blood-red lightning and attacked explosively.

Bang!!

A muffled impact followed, and Su Yi was forced several steps back, his blood and qi churning.

He couldn’t help but be surprised. This is obviously no living person. Rather, he’s a manifestation of the Laws. Even so, his fleshly body isn’t any weaker than Jian Xingyun’s. If anything, he’s even stronger!

This was Zhu Mu, a Zhuyan Divine Beast. He was once known for his fleshly body in the Spirit Crossing Epoch; he was invincible within the great Profound Stage!

“Die!!”

Zhu Mu attacked explosively once more with fierce, tyrannical, terrifying momentum.

Su Yi didn’t hesitate to fight back with all his might. Moments later…

Bang!!

A heaven-shaking impact rang out, and fist force as sharp as the edge of a sword cleaved into Zhu Mu’s body.

Boom!

Zhu Mu scattered into a rain of light.

Su Yi thought to himself, His strength was similar to Jian Xingyun’s. He wasn’t all that heaven-defying, but… relying purely on the power of his Great Profound Stage fleshly body made it a bit difficult.

He still had eight opponents left to face. Each was sure to be more powerful than the last!

In the end, Su Yi decided not to hold back; he wanted to get this over with. He unleashed the full extent of his Hidden Summit Realm cultivation base.

Before long, the Stele of Trials rumbled once more, and a new line of text appeared.

“Di Leng, the Aberrant Divine Epoch’s greatest body refiner with peak Great Profound Stage cultivation. His true body was a Dijiang, a divine beast born of chaos.”

The chaos clouds churned, and a thin male figure formed.

Su Yi’s second opponent had arrived!

……

Outside the tower.

“They both broke the record. I just don’t know whether Su Yi or Jian Xingyun will receive the first trial’s good fortune in the end.”

“In the past, when multiple challengers have overcome the ninth floor simultaneously, they have to compete. Only the victor can receive the tower’s good fortune. That means that conflict between Su Yi and Jian Xingyun is inevitable!”

“Then who do you think will win?”

…The crowd discussed the battle amongst themselves. All of them were intensely curious.

But before they could really start analyzing the situation, Jian Xingyun walked out of the tower’s entrance.

A deathly silence descended over the crowd. All the voices died down.

How long has it been? Jian Xingyun lost already!?

It was only after Jian Xingyun walked into the distance and faded from view that the crowd came to their senses. Uproar ensued.

Su Yi won!!!

“Jian Xingyun’s defeat was far too unfair. If not for Su Yi, he’d have set a new record, and his name would have taken the entire Ancient God Domain by storm!”

“It’s a pity. Su Yi has completely obscured his brilliance.”

Many of the onlookers found this an awful pity.

“Rumor has it that those who break the record have an opportunity to duke it out with the strongest body refiners of all past epochs! They say that whoever defeats them all can receive the greatest good fortune the tower has to offer,” someone whispered, visibly eager.

Many of the others were stunned. They’d heard those rumors too, but it was so rare for someone to break the record that the rumors had always seemed fleeting and insubstantial.

“It’s true!” someone said with conviction. “It’s just that everyone who broke the record before lost to those supreme experts. Not one made it through the entire gauntlet! Thus, no one has ever managed to obtain the greatest good fortune of the first divine tower!”

The crowd stirred as everyone’s imaginations ran wild.

Su Yi was undoubtedly locked in combat with those supreme body cultivators of past epochs as they spoke. It just remained to be seen whether or not he could overcome them all.

If he could, it would be an unprecedented accomplishment. He’d break the record, and become the strongest Great Profound Stage body refiner in history!

If he failed… it would be an awful pity.

……

The far end of the Path of the Ancient Gods, the fog-shrouded Abyssal Ruin.

The thin man perusing a beast skin scroll suddenly froze, startled. Unbelievably, Jian Xingyun and Su Yi’s battle was now reflected on the scroll down to the finest of details!

Furthermore, everything was from Jian Xingyun’s point of view. It seemed as if the Su Yi reflected on the scroll could burst forth at any moment!

“Having combat strength like that in the Great Profound Stage really is worthy of pride. Even compared to the experts of all past epochs, he’d be among the most heaven-defying,” said the man, watching the proceedings with great interest.

Even when Jian Xingyun was defeated, he smiled, not at all concerned.

When Jian Xingyun left the tower, the image reflected on the scroll faded away.

The thin man stroked his lower jaw and sighed. “Reincarnation… really is taboo for a reason.”

The power of reincarnation let someone undergo rebirth to cultivate anew!

Every time someone reincarnated, they could excavate nigh endless potential, and they could draw on cultivation experience accumulated over multiple lifetimes. For one person to have all that potential and such an abundance of experience was far too terrifying.

And that was just one of reincarnation’s wondrous applications!

“But if that’s all he’s got, I’m afraid he won’t be able to pass the trial left in the first divine tower,” murmured the man. “I hope I’m wrong. If he fails here… it would be far too disappointing.”
