Chapter 264: Ch-264: Devil Invasion

Alaric frowned as he felt something was wrong and asked in a neutral voice, "What happened? Why are you so panicked?"

"K-King Alaric, it’s the devils," the soldier said in a terrified voice.

Hearing the word devils, the atmosphere instantly shifted and became chilly.

"This..."

Maria, along with Jack and Seraphina, landed near the soldier, and Maria asked, "Devils? What did they do?"

"DEVILS! THEY ARE ATTACKING THE KINGDOM AND SLAUGHTERING EVERYONE!" the soldier shouted at the top of his voice.

Everyone who heard this had their pupils constrict to the size of pinpoints as they shouted, "What?!"

"Even the capital is under attack, and we have reports that some cities have been destroyed," the soldier said, and Alaric’s pupils shrank.

Everyone who heard this looked at the soldier as if he had grown a second head and was waiting for him to tell them that it was some kind of sick prank. The soldier’s legs almost turned to jelly under the gaze of the royal family, especially the King, and he swallowed hard.

When the soldier stood silent, the King’s expression darkened as he clenched his fist and shouted at the top of his voice, "HOW DARE THOSE FILTHY CREATURES ATTACK MY KINGDOM!"

Alaric’s voice shook the entire place, and the demons who were speechless now erupted in anger.

"Who gave them the courage?"

"Filthy devils, how dare they tarnish the Kingdom with their presence!"

"If I do not kill a few dozen, I will never pick up a weapon again!"

"Your Majesty, give the order! We will slaughter them all!"

The crowd boiled with anger as they looked at the King, who had gone silent and was frowning. ’What audacity... how dare they attack the Kingdom, and why now of all times?’

Maria knew what her husband was thinking and had the same thoughts, and snapped him out of his thoughts. "Dear, you need to go quickly with the army."

"Yes, Father, you will also join. I am eager to test my new Soul Weapon, and what better target than devils?" Prince Jack said with confidence and authority befitting the next in line for the throne.

"Who is behind the attack? How many tribes attacked?" Alaric asked, as in the past, the devil tribes had engaged in minor skirmishes and were dealt with by the soldiers. So today, he was bewildered by how they had launched a serious attack and even reached the capital, and thought, ’It must be a coalition of tribes.’

Gulp.

"Y-Your Highness, it’s not the tribes but the Royal Family of Ingril who is attacking... I have seen the royal armor on the devils’ bodies," the soldier said as he swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

"What? The Ingril Kingdom... are they breaking the pact?" Alaric and even the other demons had their pupils shrink to the size of needles.

The Kingdom of Ingril was one of the top five Devil Kingdoms on the Planet and the first one to sign the non-aggression pact, which stated that no devils or demons could attack each other’s kingdoms directly. Over the years, there had been fighting and killing, but nothing serious between the Kingdoms. However, the Kingdom of Ingril was the least violent, unlike the others who were eager to engage in confrontation. So everyone was shocked.

Alaric thought for a few moments before his expression hardened and he said in a cold voice, "A dog’s tail never straightens... devils will be devils... prepare the army. I will personally go slaughter the invaders."

The soldiers nodded hurriedly and ran out.

Suddenly, Victor stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty, I would also like to participate."

Alaric frowned and was about to refuse, as he did not want his guest fighting, but he felt a vague sense of unease that something bad was going to happen. Filled with uncertainty over the sudden attack, he nodded. "Then I will thank you."

"I will go and get the Royal Executioners," Jack said, and Alaric nodded. Executioners were the strongest soldiers in the army below the royal family. They were composed of bastards and members of secondary lineages of the Luxem Family.

Bang!

Alaric stepped into the spy division room of the Kingdom, followed by Victor and the others. The first thing Victor saw was a huge monitor displaying the situation around the entire Kingdom.

Alaric stopped in front of a large screen, and veins popped on his forehead as he cursed, "How dare they, these bastards!"

Maria, Jack, and Seraphina also had grim expressions as they saw the feed on the screen.

The screen was showing the current devastation across the entire Kingdom. Buildings had been reduced to rubble, demons were being chased and slaughtered by the invading devils, and they were feasting on the dead demons as if they were some snack.

Rumble!

The entire room shook as Alaric’s Tier 5 aura leaked out. He quickly calmed his nerves and adopted a cold expression.

"What about the members of the Royal Family? Have you located them yet?" Alaric looked at the demon who was in charge of the surveillance.

"I am afraid not, Majesty. It seems they have not acted yet," one of the demons said hesitantly.

"Before you go, you should have this. It will help you in combat... I had intended to gift it to you later, but now is the best time," Alaric said as he brought out an armor and handed it to Amber, who was standing silently.

"Hmm?" Amber was surprised and hurriedly caught it, her eyes widening.

"Mythical..." Amber’s pupils contracted to the size of needles, especially after seeing the effects of the armor. She looked at the King and asked hesitantly, "Are you sure you want me to have this?"

’What luck, she actually got a Mythical-rank item. Even I don’t have one,’ Victor exclaimed as he looked at the armor in Amber’s hand. He was not jealous but happy for her.

"Yes, it’s better for you to have it. It has been in my family for generations and was the armor of a former Primordial, and only they can use it," Alaric said calmly, and the demons who heard this had their eyes nearly pop out of their sockets as they could not believe what they were hearing.

"I see. Thank you." Amber bowed her head.

"Y-Your Majesty, did you say she is a Primordial Demon?" One of the demons asked, stammering.

"Yes, and now get back to work," Alaric said, and then his voice turned cold. The guards swallowed hard and swallowed their questions, but their gazes would land on Amber from time to time.

Bang!

"Father!" Everyone’s eyes snapped towards Jack, who had entered the room bloodied, with one of his arms severed.

"Jack!" Maria cried out upon seeing the state her son was in.

"Jack, what happened?" Alaric asked in a much more level-headed manner, in a serious voice, and then paused and added, "Where are the Executioners?"

Jack, hearing his question, gritted his teeth and, through the pain, answered, "The Executioners under Uncle betrayed us and killed those loyal to us."

The words detonated like a bomb in the room, and everyone looked shocked.

’Why does this feel familiar?’ Valerie thought with a weird look, as she was reminded of the betrayals and backstabbing which were common occurrences in top families like hers. She was feeling déjà vu.

"Impossible, why would he do that?" Maria’s eyes widened as she said this, unable to believe her brother would betray them.

"Hmph, why else? He wants the throne. I warned you before, but you brushed off my warning," Alaric scoffed.

"Tell me what happened exactly, in detail," Alaric said.

Few minutes ago

Jack was hurriedly heading towards the quarters where the Executioners resided, and it was as luxurious as the place where the royal family lived.

"Huff..." Jack panted as he looked around and then frowned when he saw not a single person there and muttered, "Where is everyone? Normally, someone is always training here."

Jack paused for a second and moved from the training area, intending to head towards the living quarters of the Executioners.

He looked around and even went inside their room, but no one was present, and he felt a sense of unease. That intensified when he went to the banquet room where everyone normally gathered and hosted feasts. The moment he neared the area, he could smell the scent of blood, and his expression changed.

"Damn it," he cursed and hurriedly ran towards the room, and what greeted him left him completely stupefied. His pupils dilated as he saw that there was a small pile of corpses, and Jack recognized many of them as Executioners.
