Evolution of the Ruined Heir

Chapter 379 - Capítulo 379: Anything

Capítulo 379: Anything

Still, it was too late. He was already in the Sixth Pulse’s radar, and he had Octavia’s presence as a reminder of that.

Valentine slumped.

“What now?”

Malakai took a moment before he answered. “I still think the answer to this mystery lies with this family. We need to find out all we can during dinner.”

After that, Octavia and Renlo returned from their walk around the garden.

Malakai pitied his friend the moment he saw him. Renlo looked deflated, as though he’d been through hell and back.

“Are you okay?”

Renlo barely nodded, glancing toward Octavia. He looked as though he was being held at gunpoint.

“Malakai! What is this I’m hearing about some dinner? Why are we having dinner with this creepy man and his family?” Octavia said the moment she stepped in.

“It’s late, and we need somewhere to sleep.”

“So you decided to forget the thousands of hotels in the entire city?”

“I didn’t forget. I just simply didn’t want a situation where you’ll have to use the Sixth Pulse name when it’s time to pay.”

Octavia’s expression darkened.

“What are you trying to say?”

“That you can’t survive on your own. That you need your mother to do even the most basic of things.”

“You’re wrong! Do you know how much money I have?”

“Yeah? And who gave it to you?”

Octavia froze. “M-mom.”

“Of course. See what I’m saying?”

“But—”

“G-guys.”

Their eyes turned sharply toward Renlo.

“What?”

Renlo flinched and pointed at the door. “Someone’s knocking at the door…”

Huffing, Octavia approached and opened it.

“What!?”

The maid, who had been about to knock, shivered and instantly bowed. “I-I apologize, Tenth Vein! T-the master instructed me to come inform you that dinner is served.”

Bam!

Octavia slammed the door on the maid and turned toward Malakai.

“I’m not having dinner with that stupid man!”

“Then starve.” Malakai turned to Renlo. “Let’s go.”

Renlo nodded, walking wide around the fuming Octavia and leaving the room along with Malakai.

Eventually, seeing no other choice, Octavia decided to come for dinner. Though she made sure the group felt her displeasure.

The guard waiting at the end of the hall led them to the dining hall. As they moved, Malakai couldn’t help but admire the building.

‘My manor can’t be compared to this.’

The high ceiling alone was enough to show the grandeur of this mansion.

The guard soon stopped in front of a large door where he bowed and gestured towards it.

“The dining hall.”

As they entered, Malakai was met with a room flooded with bright lights. The ceiling was high, and a large chandelier emitting bright light hung over a large mahogany table.

On it, Mamush and his other family members were seated on one side, while the other side was free.

‘He invited his whole family.’

The observation began the moment he entered this estate. The first thing he noticed was the large number of guards, which was too much, given whose house this was.

It was well known in their world that the more influential and powerful one became, the fewer guards one tended to have.

But Mamush had strayed from this fact. He knew someone was after him, which made Malakai suspect he knew more than he was letting on.

‘He’s trying to protect his family.’

The family rose from their seats the moment the trio entered, bowing toward Malakai and the frowning Octavia.

“Thank you for inviting us to dinner.”

Malakai took the lead, since it was clear Octavia would rather jump off a cliff than do so.

“Please, it’s our honor, Ninth Vein.”

Malakai scrutinized Mamush. Every trace of his earlier fright during their meeting had vanished, replaced with a clear, steady gaze.

‘He’s planning something.’

“Allow me to introduce you to my wife, Onilia. I dare say she’s the most beautiful in the entire Dome.”

“Oh please, honey.” His wife, Onilia, chuckled, then bowed toward Malakai. “I’m honored to finally make your acquaintance. I must say, the rumors don’t do you justice. You’re more handsome than expected!”

A snicker echoed from Octavia. Malakai glanced at her and saw her stifling her laughter.

“…Thank you.”

As Onilia curtsied, Mamush turned toward his children.

“This is Malia, my first daughter.”

Malakai glanced at an aloof young woman who bowed without any change of expression.

“Pleased to meet you.”

“You too.”

“Dune, my second child.”

The second smiled warmly at him, bowing.

“It’s an honor.”

“Thank you.”

“And my third child, Donna.”

“I–is a p–pleasure,”

The third child looked more shy and reclusive. She fidgeted with her fingers as she avoided all eye contact.

“Thank you.”

With the greetings done, they each settled in their seats. Mamush clapped, and a wave of maids brought in food and began to serve. Afterwards, dinner began.

Though they ate in silence, Malakai soon noticed the numerous eyes on him.

‘They’re observing me.’

It wasn’t just Mamush, but even the wife and children.

“Is the food to your liking, Ninth Vein?”

Malakai turned toward the second son. The boy stared at him with a wide smile.

“It is. Thank you.”

“Phew. It was quite the surprise when I heard you were joining us for dinner,” Dune said. “I knew I had to take charge of the preparations and make sure everything turned out perfect.”

“….”

Malakai didn’t know how to respond to that. As though seeing this, Onilia chuckled.

“Dune has been a fan ever since the hunt. He can’t stop talking about you.”

“Mom!”

“What, honey? It’s true isn’t it.”

“But you didn’t have to say all that…” he whispered.

Mamush burst into laughter the next moment. “Children would always be children. Am I right, Ninth Vein?”

“…right.”

“But as parents, it’s our duty to protect them until they can fend for themselves… no matter what.”

‘No matter what huh.’

He could understand what Mamush was trying to say.

‘He means right now.’

It was clear Malakai had gotten the upper hand during their meeting, and now Mamush was simply saying, I’m ready to do anything to protect my family.
