Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 244: Cruel Reality of Demon World

Chapter 244: Cruel Reality of Demon World

“This is no longer the world of Knights, where rules are followed for the most part, and there is at least the illusion of order.”

“In the Demon World, the strong truly rule over the weak. Any sign of weakness and hesitation will only be taken advantage of by other people.”

“Only by unabashedly displaying one’s might and ensuring that their enemies fear them and don’t dare to attack them, can they better protect themselves.”

Liora understood this truth very well, and it was also the reason why she had not hesitated to kill all those who dared to target her.

This was not because she was offended by the gazes of a bunch of ants, but because she understood that only in this way could she show her value.

While many thoughts raced through her mind, Liora’s footsteps didn’t pause, and she slowly approached the city.

Before long, she had arrived at its entrance.

Just like most of the other cities Liora had visited, the entrance of this one was also heavily guarded.

It was just that, unlike other cities, which were guarded by powerful Devils or even Knights, this city was guarded by a team of mechanical puppets.

Standing in front of a long queue of Devils who wished to enter it, a team of statue-like beings could be seen standing silently, emanating an aura of authority and rules.

They stared speechlessly at the Devils in front of them and extended their hands, only motioning them to enter when they were finished paying their toll.

Though she stood afar, Liora immediately noticed that the thing the Devils used as a form of payment was a small shiny orb.

It was obvious that this orb was extraordinary, not only because of its brilliant and captivating appearance, but also because of the intense feeling of hunger that assaulted Liora’s senses upon seeing it.

In fact, she wasn’t surprised by this orb’s appearance.

She had seen it before, not only in her bloodline memories, but also in the memories of the Devils whose souls she had devoured.

“Soul Stone…”, she muttered its name.

Similar to the Crucible, the Demon World also possessed a unique currency system. And just like the Crucible, the form of currency was also none other than pure souls.

It was just that, unlike the Crucible, where the soul of a Young Devil was taken as a unit of measurement, in the Demon World, Soul Stones were used.

Each Soul Stone was created out of the soul of a Lesser Devil, thus representing their death.

If one used the souls of Young Devils instead, it would take thousands of them to be slain.

As for Little Devils? Creating Soul Stones out of the souls of such lowly beings was almost impossible.

One would probably have to slaughter the entire River of Oblivion in order to get just a single piece.

As this information resurfaced in Liora’s mind, she couldn’t help but nod her head inwardly.

She cast one more look at the front of the queue before she chose to step forward.

Surprisingly, she didn’t choose to go at the end of the queue.

Instead, she walked towards its front, right in front of the entrance.

She didn’t hide her movements, and thus, every Devil in the queue noticed her actions.

Some of them turned and whispered to their companions, others showed a curious expression, while some even looked disdainful, as if they were ready to watch a show.

Liora noticed these people’s reaction, but she didn’t pay much attention.

Walking to the front of the queue, she cast a glance at the leading Devil.

They were perhaps the only ones who had not noticed her strange actions.

Immersed in the current situation, they were busy taking a Soul Stone out of their belongings and presenting it to the guards.

Just when their hand was halfway through the motion, and the Soul Stone was about to land on the palm of the puppet, though, a hand stretched out from behind and slammed onto their head.

Blood splattered as the hand then moved and grabbed their soul as if they were a toy.

Then, under the operation of demonic energy, the soul gathered into a single shining piece of Soul Stone.

After she felt its cold surface for a few moments, Liora casually tossed it to the puppet guards.

Then, she didn’t even cast a second glance at the corpse behind her and walked into the city.

If her earlier actions were considered strange, then these had made her a madman in the eyes of the other Devils.

Instantly, their reactions revealed their inner emotions, as they did not care enough to hide them.

“How dare she? Doesn’t she know that fighting is prohibited in the Bloodflower City? Isn’t this equivalent to stealing food out of the various Lords’ mouths?”, one of them questioned.

“Could it be that she has just arrived in the Demon World and doesn’t know? Ignorance is bliss, as they like to say.”, another one sighed, while there were even several people who laughed gleefully:

“Hehehe…”

The last part of the Devils could not help but lick their lips in excitement, waiting for the next scene to unfold.

As veterans who had visited Bloodflower City several times, they knew very well that the unassuming puppet guards were not weak at all.

Otherwise, how could these Devils remain so obedient and stay in line like good children?

Although the reputation of the various Lords could indeed keep them at bay, it was not enough to make them so obedient.

The Lords were stronger, but they would not care about the actions of a bunch of ants.

However, these puppet guards did.

Most importantly, being a creation of a famous Lord, they possessed extraordinary combat power.

According to the rumors, if they were to work together and assemble in a formation, these puppets could fight against an ordinary True Devil!

In the eyes of most people, Liora’s actions of offending these guards meant death.

Walking at the front, Liora keenly sensed the emotions of these people.

Secretly, she memorized the appearances of the ones with the most gleeful looks, planning to deal with them at a later time.

Then, she resumed her footsteps.

Seconds slowly passed, and under the Devils’ gazes, Liora slowly approached the entrance.

At first, everyone was excited, planning to see this “disobedient” person die.

But as time went by and nothing happened, their mood couldn’t help but dampen.

Especially when they discovered that Liora had finally passed by the guards and entered the city, yet the guards didn’t do anything to her, many couldn’t help but be filled with doubt.

“Could it be that those puppets have malfunctioned? Is it now possible to kill without any consequences?”, the whispered voice of one of them echoed, and he looked ready to try.

But before he could put that theory to the test, a powerful hand slapped him on the back of the head and sent him flying.

“Idiot! Keep your voice low! Do you not understand?”, one of his companions cursed in a low voice:

“For the guards to refuse to punish that woman, there can only be an explanation.”, his companion said and paused for a brief second.

Not because they wanted to keep him waiting, but because they were also shocked.

After they took a deep breath and forced themselves to calm down, they continued:

“That person must be a True Devil! A Lord!”, a faint voice echoed and was followed by several hissing sounds, as those who heard their words took deep breaths, unable to believe their ears.

As time passed and the realization hit them, they all had the exact same thought.

The Bloodflower City was about to change…
