Chapter 431 - 407: Preaching the Dao, Teaching the Arts, Mountain Charms Attend a Sermon
After bidding farewell to Liu Siye, Song Ciwan immediately left Guangling City with the Big White Goose and the Suanni Puppet.
She was unaware of the conversation between the Yangzhou Governor and Liu Siye after she left. Nor did she know that as she departed the city, in the City God Temple, the figure of the Wu City God rose ten zhang high to watch her from afar.
No, that wasn’t entirely true. Song Ciwan wasn’t completely unaware—
At the very least, she had a sense, an understanding that at the moment she left the city, countless eyes, both near and far, were watching her depart.
Once famous, a person’s every move seemed to be under a spotlight.
But what was interesting was that despite so many pairs of eyes watching her, not a single person came forward to approach her.
After leaving the city gates, Song Ciwan gave the Big White Goose a light pat. The goose immediately flapped its wings, its body growing larger.
Its wings unfurled to a span of five zhang. The Big White Goose had become a giant goose!
"HONK HONK HONK!" It held its head high and puffed out its chest, calling out joyfully.
While inviting Song Ciwan onto its back, it swept a smug and disdainful gaze over the Suanni Puppet, as if to say, ’Hey, you little fleabag, you think you’re so tough? Bronze head and iron bones, can’t be twisted or broken. But what’s the use of that?’
’No matter how tough you are, you can’t carry Wanwan up into the sky!’
The Suanni Puppet: ...
The Suanni Puppet had no reaction at all. It was just a Puppet. How could it possibly understand what a provocation was, let alone how to respond to one?
Song Ciwan smiled faintly. She put away the Suanni Puppet and sat down directly on the goose’s back.
The Big White Goose raised its head and trumpeted, "KRONK! KRONK! KRONK!"
Carrying Song Ciwan, the white goose flew up into the sky, just as it had when they arrived.
The white goose flapped its wings and flew off into the distance. The only difference was that this time, Song Ciwan was gently reciting the Celestial Demon Suppression Record from its back.
"Thus is the nature of demons: to trace the origin and seek the foundation. Spiritual, with a nature; void, without form. Unrestrained, they are beasts; with form and function, they are demons..."
The rhythmic, melodic recitation snaked and trailed through the high altitude. At first, the Big White Goose flapped its wings with all its might, simply treating it as Song Ciwan chanting scriptures in its ear.
But as Song Ciwan’s recitation found its groove, a strange sense of rhythm enveloped both her and the Big White Goose. Gradually, the goose seemed to begin understanding the True Intent within the scripture.
The frequency of its wing beats grew lower and lower, and with each flap, the arc of its wings became smaller. Yet, the Big White Goose’s flight speed didn’t decrease. Instead, without realizing it... it sped up.
After Song Ciwan imbued the Celestial Demon Suppression Record with her Dharma Transmission Skill, the scriptures within seemed to come alive.
While reciting, Song Ciwan also gave the Big White Goose a detailed explanation, "Big White Goose, do you understand what ’spiritual, with a nature; void, without form’ means?"
The Big White Goose stretched out its neck and squawked twice, "GAK GAK," as if to say, ’This goose doesn’t get it! Wanwan, please teach me!’
Song Ciwan said, "Big White Goose, let me give you an analogy. Back when you only ate grains, you didn’t know you actually liked to eat bugs, and you had never caught one. Then, one day, you walked out of your own little world and saw the rich world outside."
"Then a bug scurried past you, and you suddenly stretched out your neck and snapped it up. That bug was caught in your beak. The action happened naturally, without you needing to consciously control it."
"Catching that bug was also a natural instinct. At that time, in that moment, an instinct suddenly surged within you, prompting you to accomplish something you had never done before. That is spirituality. Do you understand?"
If Song Ciwan had used lofty, academic language for this explanation, the Big White Goose might have heard every word, but it certainly wouldn’t have understood the meaning.
But Song Ciwan had deliberately used the simplest, most direct language, even using the Big White Goose’s own past experiences as an example. The goose let out a surprised "GAK!"
’So that’s spirituality? I think... I have a feeling... I can actually understand it!’
The Big White Goose cried out again, "KRONK! KRONK! KRONK!" Its wings flapped gently in the air, each beat covering a distance of tens, even hundreds of zhang.
Riding the wind, so effortlessly light, the Big White Goose felt a joy surging in its chest.
’I’m so happy! I’m so joyful! Why am I so happy and joyful?’
’Why is Wanwan so good, so, so good to me!’
"HONK HONK HONK!"
"KRONK! KRONK! KRONK!"
Interspersed were the sounds of scripture being recited and questions being answered.
A white goose flew across the sky, one person and one goose, conversing with each other.
The human taught the goose Cultivation; the goose carried the human in flight.
At some point, whenever birds crossed paths with the Big White Goose in the sky, they would hear the sound of Song Ciwan’s Dharma Transmission and begin to follow them.
Some of the birds were ordinary. They only heard fragments, and although a Spiritual Mechanism would stir within them for a moment, their comprehension was ultimately limited. Furthermore, ordinary birds were not fast enough to keep up with the Big White Goose, which was already at the Spirit Communication Stage.
In these cases, the ordinary birds could at best trail closely behind the Big White Goose, chasing it for a short while before they were quickly left behind.
But some of the birds were Demon Beasts, whose spirituality and speed were far beyond what ordinary birds could match.
And so, a strange spectacle formed in the sky. Beneath the clear heavens, a single Big White Goose flew swiftly at the front, with a dense, dark flock of birds trailing behind it!
This flock contained all sorts of birds: large ones and small ones, those with high Cultivation and those with low Cultivation—though the ones with lower Cultivation would quickly fall behind.
The chirps and calls of the birds were a magnificent spectacle.
It was truly a unique session of Cultivation. The listeners were cultivating, and the one transmitting the Dharma was cultivating as well.
