Chapter 2982: The Dragon in the Ceiling
Chapter 2982: The Dragon in the Ceiling
Alex looked back at the Flying-Raindragon, the master of Lightning, and then the Roc, the master of Wind. These two beasts’ bloodlines were what later came together into a serpentine beast that was blessed and became the Azure Dragons.
“Are these accurate carvings?” Alex asked Bai Jingshen.
“Who knows?” Bai Jingshen said. “It’s not like anyone has seen what the Primordials look like to know if these are accurate—aside from the Dragon Turtle and the Headless Immortal, of course. Oh, and I guess now the Guardian Tiger.”
Alex slowly nodded. The other two corpses floated around in space and were widely known to exist. Aside from those two, the others weren’t as well known. That was not to say they were never seen after they had died, just that the beasts of this world hadn’t.
“Okay, I get these two,” Alex said. “But what about that one?”
Alex pointed to the last carving of a beast that was not done on the wall, but on the ceiling directly above them. And it was the largest one of them all.
Carved completely out of gold on the ceiling was a massive draconic beast that Alex had never seen before. He didn’t even know where to begin.
The Dragon’s head was massive with spikes growing all out of the sides of its face. Its two giant nostrils were not hidden behind any whiskers, and its sharp jagged teeth looked like they could chomp through anything.
Its body was covered in what looked to be scales, but compared to regular dragons that had fish-like scales, this one was uneven and looked more like armor.
There was not a single fur or feather on its body, but it did have a lot of spikes growing out of it. Sharp spurs came out of its back, ridged like mountains on its body, going all the way down to its tail.
Its body was massive as well, shaped more like a lizard than anything close to serpentine. The only thing serpentine was its tail, which ended at a point.
But even that was wrong. It was closer to say that its body was shaped like a four-legged mammal, but the overall body was clearly that of a reptile.
What was perhaps the greatest difference between this beast and anything else Alex had seen so far was its wings. Its wings were not made of feathers or fur. Instead, they were giant bat wings with a wingspan the length of its body.
The majestic beast looked like a beast of war, its body harder than metal. Alex could only imagine the pain one would feel if they were to slam onto those spikes growing on the beast’s back or if they were attacked by its talons.
Alex stared at the beast for a long time, certain that he had never seen anything close to what this was.
Its features were so similar to other dragons, and yet so completely unique and different.
The only other two draconic beasts he knew were the Flood Dragon and the Yellow Dragon. This beast had clearly nothing to do with water, so Alex quickly threw away the idea of the Flood Dragon.
As for the Yellow Dragon, he remembered hearing something about it being a Primordial known for having mastery over Earth.
Looking at the figure on the ceiling, he didn’t get that impression.
In the first place, the Yellow Dragons were ancestors to the Tortoise half of the Black Tortoise, along with the Dragon Turtle. It would make no sense for the Azure Dragons to carve one above the other two Primordials that they descended from.
In that case, if it wasn’t the Yellow Dragon, then Alex had no idea what it could be.
Bai Jingshen looked at the ceiling for some time and sighed before shaking his head. “I have no idea. Most of the Azure Dragons themselves don’t know either.”
“Huh? They don’t know?” Alex asked. “Not even the Patriarch?”
“I wasn’t received by the Azure Dragon Patriarch, so I have no idea,” Bai Jingshen said. “Maybe the Patriarch knows something. Let me ask him.” Discover more novels at novelꞁire.net
Bai Jingshen walked up to the two Patriarchs, Alex following a step behind. He waited for the Azure Dragon Patriarch to speak about his uncle’s sculpture before him, speaking about how the great beast had died in his cultivation long ago.
When the beast was done talking, Bai Jingshen finally spoke up. “Greetings, Azure Dragon Patriarch. I hope I am not intruding.”
The Azure Dragon Patriarch turned around. “Young Jingshen! No, you’re not intruding on anything. Can I help you with something?”
Bai Jingshen nodded and gestured to the ceiling. “The last time I came here, the one who received me couldn’t tell me who the sculpture on the ceiling belonged to. I do not believe he kept that information from me willingly, so I was hoping you could share some knowledge that others seem to be lacking.”
The Azure Dragon looked at the ceiling and smiled a little. “Has Patriarch Zhuqiang not explained to you about the origins of us beasts?” he asked.
Bai Jingshen froze, not knowing what to say. He looked toward his Patriarch, not wanting to humiliate him with an answer.
“Don’t tease him,” the White Tiger Patriarch said. He turned toward Bai Jingshen. “It’s not really something you’ve needed to know until now, especially because we have no way of verifying whether the fact is even true or not.”
“What fact, Patriarch?” Bai Jingshen asked curiously.
“It is said that all the Primordials descended from the same two beasts, one of which was a Dragon. That right there is the sculpture of said Dragon, father of the Primordials.”
Bai Jingshen’s eyes widened in shock. Even his Master hadn’t told him of something like this.
“Were there other stronger beasts before the Primordials?” Bai Jingshen asked.
“Of course. Just because they were the strongest, doesn’t mean they were the only strong beasts,” the Patriarch said. “In a way, this Dragon is a progenitor to many of the Primordials themselves.”
