CHAPTER 142: THE EXTREME POWER OF A SWORD CULTIVATOR
The earth trembled greatly as over ten massive boars, each more than four meters high, charged forward with a crimson light surrounding their huge frames. The light bathed the world in its glow, the creatures leaving wakes of afterimages in their path.
In just a second, more than fifty meters were crossed, a sight entirely mind-boggling considering the size of the creatures.
"Let's go!" Elena commanded from the sides, the bow in her hand dancing on the strings, changing cadence. The tune of the music changed and from what originally sounded like a gentle, elegant melody, it turned to a powerful, commanding anthem that carried the grandeur of royalty, its rhythm surging like the soundtrack of a monarch's descent onto the battlefield.
Who made her boss? Rose's voice sounded in the telepathic network, and Nathan responded soon after.
You can't deny she is pretty damn impressive.
Tch.
Not receiving any reaction, Elena didn't mind. Ice exploded from her feet, and soon after, she surfed on the ground, her body moving gracefully even as she continued playing her soul weapon.
Just as Kael and the others were about to move, Alice, who was directly beside the former, suddenly took a single step forward, her mana surging and a blue sword forming in her right hand. The sword appeared unbelievably solid, its surface smooth and translucent, yet carrying a density that made it seem as though an entire river of condensed mana had been forged into a single blade.
Before anyone could react, two hiltless blades flashed within her amethyst eyes, and with what could only be described as an effortless move, she raised the sword up and brought it down in a vertical swing.
A blue vertical wave shot out with such speed that all the others saw was a blur. It streaked past Elena, who was surfing forward at great speed, with a piercing sound, and just before it reached the first boar, a strange will acted upon it, condensing the blue wave further until it resembled a thread that seemed to connect the earth to the skies.
Kael's eyes widened at the sight before him.
And he wasn't alone.
Elena's music abruptly halted while the charging boars also skidded to a stop, the crimson bestial light in their eyes giving way to fear.
Bloody hell! Nathan voiced out in the telepathic network, borrowing from Kael's vocabulary.
Just as his words ended, a line of boars split cleanly into two, their two halves collapsing on the ground as a waterfall of blood and deluge of internal organs rained down.
A path was formed directly to the crack in reality, with more than six corpses in its path leaving a bloody trail that stretched all the way to the spatial abyss.
The weakest among these beasts had been level 53 and were of the common rank. While the strongest had been at level 64, also of the common rank.
And all it had taken was one move, one careless swing from Alice to kill them all.
All eyes shifted to a figure in sync as if drawn by an invisible force, their gazes converging on Alice at the same time.
Alice's face remained impassive, ignoring the stares on her. Instead, she spoke out in Kael and the others' heads.
I walk the path of extreme attack power, and I always fight at my peak.
It took a moment for the team to understand her words. Despite how free her stance had been, the truth was that Alice was already close to her peak. Aside from her order imprint and drawing her soul weapons, she was already erupting with her full might. Her titles were active, her WILL had strengthened her attack, and every other asset in her arsenal had been utilised.
This was the path she walked. Her path of cultivation was one of extreme attack.
Of course, such a path had its detriment. Always erupting with her full might meant she had very low stamina, and wouldn't last long on the battlefield. Which was why she had to manage her energy and choose the right moment to unleash her full power, rather than wasting it on weaker opponents.
But this also meant that when she drew her sword, she drew it to kill! There was no in-between.
And she had achieved her goal of raising morale!
A seed had been planted within the minds of Kael and even the other survivors.
Maybe...
Just maybe, they weren't the prey in this event.
While all this sounded long to describe, barely three breaths had passed after Alice's attack.
The charging boars, who had stopped out of fear, had their senses overtaken by their desire to kill and grow stronger once again. Just like the system had communicated with the human survivors, the omnipotent being had also ingrained its will into the minds of the beasts and undead.
But who would have thought the humans wouldn't wait for them to charge? This time, they were the ones who moved to bridge the distance between them.
Ice exploded beneath Elena's feet as she skated forward in a blur. She arrived below the first boar almost instantly.
The creature reared on its back limbs and raised its front ones up, about to smash the human before it into pulp, when Elena gracefully slid to the side, evading the attack smoothly. The impact generated a shockwave that raised a wave of dust around the duo. Before the beast could react, a tone drifted into its ears, but this time, the music carried a killing edge. A suffocating killing intent engulfed the creature, and just as its instincts screamed for it to retreat, its eardrums exploded into a bloody mist, the sound digging deep into its brain.
The boar bellowed angrily even as blood leaked out of its eyes, yet Elena, who had darted to the creature's side, now waved her bow into the air.
Numerous ice spikes exploded from the ground, their sharp tips jutting out of the road of ice she had created and piercing into the boar, turning its roar of anger into one of pain.
The creature sounded like a squealing pig about to be butchered in a slaughterhouse, its desperate squeals echoing across the battlefield as its enormous body was impaled from below.
The five-meter-high boar was lifted into the air by the ice spikes, a waterfall of blood pooling down the spikes and turning them crimson beneath its dying body.
After a second of struggle, the creature went still, its red eyes slowly losing their focus.
Just like that, Elena, who was only at level 26, killed a level 52 beast, a creature twice her level.
This was the difference between an Epic-rank class awakened and a mere Common one.
