Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 849: Demonic Signs

Chapter 849: Demonic Signs

Urek was trailing after the Space Marine squads sent out to travel the void outside of the dimensional gap.

Because of the Horde’s recent inactivity, Urek had practically lost his prank targets, which made him a bit sad. He did, after all, lose the very few sources of his personal entertainment.

But he’s a big boy. As much as he loved pranks, he knew who could and couldn’t be targeted. He limited himself to his enemies, sparing his kind from his antics. And although he feels a little sad that he lost his targets already, he knows that this was just temporary.

Now, he had to babysit a bit.

Gibson entrusted him with looking after some of the space marine squads he’s sending out to probe the void outside of Heavenly Star’s Dimensional Gap. He wasn’t forced to do this, by the way. It’s just a polite request from Gibson.

He said, “If you can, look after them. Although they have protocols to follow, you are aware of how finicky the void outside could get. These are our elites, after all, and it would be a pity to lose them.’

’I’m not asking you to stalk them permanently. I’m saying that if, during your excursions outside, you happen to meet some of them, just pay attention to them, you know. If you see them heading towards a rather dubious or dangerous zone, try to steer them away from it.’

’You don’t have to show yourself to them or anything. In fact, I’m not forcing you to do anything at all if you don’t want to. I’m just saying that it’d be nice if you could.’

Gibson doesn’t ask for favors too much, not because he doesn’t want to, but because he’s not used to it. He’s very independent like that. That’s why he was so awkward when he asked this of him.

That said, even without this request, Urek would still be compelled to act if he sees the Space Marines outside. Gibson was right when he said that the Space Marines were their elites, and it would be a shame to lose them. That’s why he would look after them if he could.

Urek was somewhat obligated to do so anyway, given that he’s one of the Human Sovereigns.

But like Gibson said, this was not his priority at all. Urek had a reason for travelling outside of the dimensional gap, and he can’t always babysit the space marines.

Besides, Gibson said that the space marines had their protocols when travelling the void. And he’s not so dumb as not to prepare the people he’s sending out. So, Urek would focus on his priorities and would only look after the space marines if he encountered them on his way.

He would when he could; that’s the agreement.

And right now, he encountered some, and he’s watching them from a distance.

They were moving with precision and intent. They have their orders and priorities; they were disciplined and very cautious.

Urek already scouted ahead and saw that they shouldn’t encounter any danger. At least, nothing that would register as threats to them.

But then, Urek discovered something rather strange.

’There’s an awful lot of demonic sightings recently. What’s up with that? ’

This was the discovery.

Urek had been patrolling the void constantly for about a decade by now. At first, there were only faint signs of demonic activity. Not really important or threatening, for that matter. He didn’t even think much of it back then.

But as years passed, the sightings became increasingly more common, so it’s becoming more alarming.

Urek had confirmed that he wasn’t just seeing things either. He couldn’t possibly mistake the signs of infernal energy that’s so unique to the Demon Race.

But it’s weird because as far as he’s aware, demons should’ve gone extinct from Heavenly Star. He knows this. Berk, whose job is to scour the entirety of Heavenly Star to search for possible inside threats, knows this. Everyone in the Human Council knows this too.

And Urek wasn’t one to doubt Berk’s job; as laid-back as that man was, he’s not one to skimp or be lazy with his duties. He wouldn’t shelter demons on his own and raise them to topple their reign. He’s not one to do that.

The other sightings of demons he knew of were the slaves of that kid from the Rising Sun Sector Domain. But those weren’t a threat, though. They’re properly leashed and, as far as he could remember, barely allowed to reproduce. Even if they do, their children will be leashed too.

So, all the activity he’s seeing out shouldn’t have come from Heavenly Star.

’If it didn’t come from Heavenly Star…then from somewhere else. The question is where? ’Urek had been pondering about this for a while now.

And to this extent, he had been tracing the clues and searching for leads. Alas, with how complicated the void was, he almost always ends up being misled or losing the leads he was following.

There’s no reason to be alarmed too much just yet. Even if he somehow missed a group, or an army of demons, he’s got nothing to worry about, for the Space Marines will surely handle them.

The Space Marines have improved too much. Especially during this past century with Gibson at its helm. They’ve completely occupied the dimensional gap. And if demons think that they’re tougher and could do better than the Horde humans have grown used to, they’re welcome to try.

This was Urek’s confidence; that’s why he’s not alarmed just yet and is taking his time following the leads without informing others just yet.

Though, if the Space Marines that are being sent out were as competent as he thought they were, it shouldn’t take long before Gibson too became aware of this.

’They don’t necessarily have to come from Heavenly Star, right? So…could they be from other Chaos Realms then? ’Urek’s eyes shone with splendor.

Yes, he felt like he was onto something with this.

There are five known Chaos Realms.

The Heavenly Star Chaos Realm and the Crimson Womb Chaos Realm are often the highlights because of the rivalry between humans and the Horde—both are sovereign races of their respective Chaos Realms.

As for the other three, they remain widely unknown to others. Not because they’re weak or anything, but because of distance. As far as Urek remembered, the Golden Bangle Bank was one of the very few organizations that had roots in all five chaos realms.

The Human Council doesn’t concern itself too much about the other chaos realms because they have priorities elsewhere.

’If they could come this far, then it means the Demon has made significant progress in other Chaos Realms.’

’Right, which Chaos Realm was the closest to us again? ’

’Ah! Black Pegasus Chaos Realm! ’

Compared to the distance between the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm and the Crimson Womb Chaos Realm, the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm was much closer to the former.

Not quite neighbors, to be exact, just close enough for comfort. And for a very long time, that’s it for both the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm and the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm.

You see, Black Pegasus Chaos Realm, as far as Urek or the Human Sovereigns were concerned, wasn’t ruled by a Sovereign Race—meaning that its citizens are composed of large tribes of competing creatures, which also causes civil conflict most of the time.

And for the longest time, it’s been like this. Even before humans became the sovereign race of the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm, the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm was already like this.

That’s why humans weren’t too concerned with them. Their inner conflict is what prevents the people of the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm from becoming a real threat to humans or the Horde.

If anything, they’re actually the worst amongst the five known Chaos Realms because of how frequent the infighting is within them.

’Last time I checked, demons who survived the purge here fled there. Apparently, they allied with the species that closely resembled them.’

’We didn’t interfere because the Demon Race had practically been hunted to extinction. Barely 10,000 of them were able to escape from us. And we didn’t think that offending the Black Pegasus Union would be worth the trouble of completely eradicating them. That’s why we let them go.’

’Have they completely overturned their miserable fate by turning everybody in that chaos realm into demons as well? Or are they fleeing again to join another chaos realm? ’

The Black Pegasus Union is the main governing body of the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm. It’s their equivalent of the Human Council—but composed of all the species that are competing for hegemony over that chaos realm.

It’s either the Demon Race had managed to recover and integrate themselves deeply in that chaos realm, or they were expelled again.

If it’s the former, then it’s probably worth looking after. If it’s the latter, then it doesn’t matter at all.

Looking at the Space Marines who are now retreating after their scouting mission was done, Urek made the decision to pay a visit to the Black Pegasus Realm.

Hopefully, his discoveries wouldn’t be anything potentially harmful to his people.
