Chapter 845: Out of Seclusion
Chapter 845: Out of Seclusion
—
Nicholas and Patricia finally ended their seclusion…for a while, at least.
The first thing they did was to practically shut off their brains and take a very long sleep. One that lasted for nearly a year. Then, after they woke up from that sleep, they feasted.
They ate like starved men who hadn’t had food for months, completely ravenous like they’d never been before.
Once they were stuffed, they took a nap that lasted for three months. Only after that did they finally look ready for a conversation and to carry on with their usual lives.
Nick and Pat looked more radiant, relaxed, and obviously more powerful than they were all those years ago.
They haven’t completely refined themselves. They just didn’t have the time to do so; that’s why their power emanated out of them in waves and out of their control. This was actually the very first thing they worked on after they recovered.
But people at their level weren’t strangers when it came to holding back. Even before they were enlightened about Origin Laws, they were already powerful enough to crush galaxies, universes, and so on, pretty easily too.
And if they truly unleashed their might, even the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm will groan under their weight. That’s how powerful they were.
Just their sheer presence alone was enough to suffocate most, and they’ve learned how not to do that, preventing themselves from killing every lesser being that dared to come close to them.
The fact that they’re way stronger now than then proves that they better learn how to reel their aura in, and fast too. Because if they don’t, just their sheer presence alone might crush the Human Council HQ to smithereens, and that’s not something they want to see.
But as stated earlier, they’re not beginners. They know what to do, and they’re able to handle this quickly.
And now, they’re done with it.
“So? How long do you reckon it would take before any of you receive the recognition of Origin Laws?” Urek asked curiously.
“Not anytime soon, that’s for sure,” Patricia replied. “Although we already comprehended every law essence needed for our respective specialties, we still don’t have a clue on the right structure to replicate the Origin Law itself.”
“She’s right,” Nick added. “We still need to research that part. And it’s mostly going to be a long trial and error process. We will fail, a lot. But we aren’t in a hurry anymore. We can’t afford to do so; after all, this part was bound to be dangerous, even to us.”
“How many Law Essences do you two need in the end anyway?” Gibson curiously asked.
“65 for me,” Nick replied.
“Same,” Patricia followed.
Indeed. Because Destruction and Soul Laws were some of the rarer concept laws to comprehend out there, the minimum Law Essences needed for a complete Origin Law for them was 60, but this wasn’t the maximum. The number could go up from there, as proven by how much Nick and Pat needed to understand every necessary essence law.
“How did you know that that’s all you need?” Berk asked.
Nick and Pat looked at each other before the former said, “It’s like an instinct for me. The moment I completely comprehended the 65th Destruction Law Essence, I felt this sense of completion settling within me that made me think, ’Yeah, that’s all of it.’ I double-checked by trying to extend my seclusion some more, but I’m receiving blanks, so I was convinced that I had everything.”
“It’s a whisper for me.” Patricia followed, “It’s really no different from Nick, but I’m more attuned to voices that are not my own. I heard it whisper to me, telling me that that’s all for Soul Laws, that I should begin trying to fit the pieces to build the whole picture.”
“Oh…” their three friends nodded and were awed for a bit.
This might be the Supreme Will guiding them, they thought. Who else could do so? Certainly not them.
But like these two said, they’re not in a hurry anymore. They’re past the point of locking themselves up to continue comprehending Law Essences. They are the part where they have to slowly but surely use these pieces to build the whole picture of Origin Laws.
And if they get it right, the Origin Laws themselves will praise them by getting its recognition—which is also the final key they need to finally step into that mythological stage that is the Primal Origin Lifeform Realm.
“So? What happened while we were away? I hope not too much,” Nick asked.
“Yeah, I hope we didn’t miss anything huge,” Patricia added.
They really didn’t know. Sure, their clones were out to handle their usual responsibilities, but other than that, they’re ignorant about everything else. Gibson, Berk, and Urek mostly covered for them so as to not overwhelm their clones.
“Well, for starters, I built the prototype of the Empress Killer a few centuries ago…” Gibson started, “…Unfortunately, she never showed up for me to test it, so I still don’t know how effective it truly is. But based on my estimates, it should be enough to gravely injure her, if not kill her. She’d be wise enough not to trespass in our territory anymore.”
“Gee. Hardcore.” Patricia snorted. “And here we were working so hard to chase after concept laws when you can just build something strong enough to scare the living shit out of her.”
“Er…it’s not absolute, you know? As much as I’m unwilling to admit it, the Empress Killer is still lacking. For one, there is a chance that it could miss. However, the more glaring factor is that we only have enough for one shot, and that’s it. The materials needed to build this thing and its ammunition are extremely expensive, even in my terms, so…”
“Hardly a downside,” Nick chimed in. “The fact that it could possibly kill her is already more than enough. She’s a menace to the Chaos Realm, after all. Besides, its mere presence should be enough to discourage her from carelessly trespassing; that’s more than enough.”
“Well…if you say so.” Gibson didn’t allow their words to get to his head.
They might think highly of his creation, but Gibson had his own standards for himself, and a mere prototype like this just won’t cut it.
“It’s been really peaceful lately, which is highly suspicious,” Urek stated plainly. “I’m talking about the front lines.”
“In the past 500 years, the bugs practically went silent. It began after her firstborn failed to make any progress despite his bravado, after he got sent packing home.”
“True,” Berk chimed in, “No new nests, no waves of bugs to harass the Space Marine Frontier…nothing. They suddenly went suspiciously inactive, which is weird.”
“We tried getting some intel. Gibby sent out drones to spy from a distance, I dragged them to illusions, and Berk sent his pets—”
“Children,” Berk cut Urek off and glared.
“…to try and search for answers as well, but alas, no dice. The hive mind was completely shut and secured; none of us could go in,” Urek concluded, ignoring Berk completely.
“We also can’t risk going to the Crimson Womb Chaos Realm to see what’s happening. You know how tight-knit they all are. All it takes is a mere suspicion, and next thing we know, the entire nest is provoked and would be after us.”
Nicholas and Patricia nodded. Indeed, this was quite a dilemma.
“But it’s not all bad,” Gibson added. “I mean, with their disappearance, the Space Marines had been freed from harassment. We’re able to completely occupy the dimensional gap without them. And we secured it real tight too.”
“Now, if they want to go in, they’d pay an even steeper price to do so. I’ve already updated the Space Marine’s equipment to truly make any trespasser bleed should they dare.”
“Right, I was also sending smaller squads to roam the vicinity outside of our Dimensional Gap. I want to see if there’s anything useful nearby,” Gibson concluded.
“Awesome!” Patricia nodded. “An efficient use of time and resources, as expected of you, Gibby.”
“Oh, stop it.” Gibson waves a hand comically as if blushing from her praise.
“Well, I want to stretch my legs,” Patricia stated. “The secret behind their inactivity, whatever it is? Leave it to me; I’ll figure it out for us.”
“Alone?” Gibson asked, sounding a bit unsure.
“Yeah.” Patricia nodded as she tied her hair in a ponytail. “Oh, don’t worry about me. I’m not the same gal as before. I’m way stronger now.”
“With my Soul Laws practically near the Origin Law level, I’ve learned a few tricks up my sleeve. Trust me, I could slip into the Crimson Womb Universe and leave without raising any alarms.”
“Hell, I might not even have to go that deep. I just need to read the souls of some bugs and see if I could connect to the Hive Mind through them. If I can, then they’d practically tell me everything I need to know.”
Gibson, not one to doubt her, nodded. But it still didn’t sit well with him to not have anybody backing her up, so he asked Nick to do so.
And it really didn’t take much to convince him.
