Chapter 826: The Impossible Pursuit
Chapter 826: The Impossible Pursuit
—
As it turns out, the Unstable Heavenly Domain was once a piece of the Origin Heaven Continent…
It was torn off by accident. What accident exactly was never recorded anywhere. But rumor said that instead of repairing it, the managers of this place instead used it as a tool to scan and filter creatures who are talented enough to come here.
They tore the realm into fragments and scattered it across the Primitive Universe. They made it so that only three fragments will be present and interactable at once; others will remain dormant while there are already three active. Like they have a rotational schedule.
And only one of the three active fragments will appear in the five known Chaos Realms.
That’s why every time the Unstable Heavenly Domain is found, it’s different from the previous one. This is also why nobody could pin down its location or refine it completely. It turns out that they already have owners, and the method they used was far more advanced than anybody could manage.
Cedric learned of this through some conversations he had with other evolvers he’d seen around here. The people he talked to were taking breaks from their practice and were more than happy to tell him what they know over some snacks and tea—things they’ve long missed from their long absence from home.
Also, they asked him about the current state of humans. They’ve been away for so long that they’ve almost forgotten what it looked like.
They reacted in various ways after he answered their inquiries. Some got lost in their thoughts, others were relieved, some were sad and longing to return home, etc.
Additionally, he didn’t miss their gazes of pity toward him.
At first he was confused, but when he thought about it, he understood. They’re probably thinking that, just like them, he too was trapped here now and had little chance of returning home.
They couldn’t tell that he’s just a clone. His real body was sitting right at the comfort of his own home, occasionally taking long walks in his territory.
But of course, he’s not stupid enough to tell them that. Let them misunderstand. They don’t have to know.
Most of the people he talked to were humans. There are a surprising lot of them here.
The surprising part? Only a handful of them said that they got here after being trapped inside the Unstable Heavenly Domain fragments. The rest? They came across the other fragments disguised as something else. There are even a few who, like him, were marked by the fragments and later heard the same calling he did.
Moreover, the people he talked to were divided. There were some from the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm. The others? They came from other chaos realms where humans were strong but not as dominant as they were in Heavenly Star.
They could tell that he was new here. They’ve been here for so long that they pretty much know each other, making it easy to spot new faces.
At some point though, the conversation ran dry. They eventually parted and returned to what they usually do.
But before they do, out of kindness, they give him a couple of heads-ups. They reiterated Gabriel’s words: ’Follow the rules.’ They repeatedly warned him to not be a troublemaker here because the fate of those who do is ugly. So much so that it scares them.
The other aligns to what he’s already planning. ’Don’t be in a hurry to go to the Origin Heaven Talents.’
They told him to chill and spend some more time here. Learn as much as he can, discover, train, practice, and be well-rounded. Use the indefinite period of time he has because he’d never get it again.
Again, Cedric was already planning to do this anyway, but their advice validated that decision even more.
As thanks, Cedric gave them some food, snacks, and drinks; he even gave them starter kits to make their own in their Inner World so that they can periodically have them. Which made some of them tearful, even, because it truly has been that long since they had them.
Cedric never dared to ask how long they’ve been here; he figured that this might be a sore subject to them. But just from their reactions alone, he could tell that it should be a really, really long time.
After this, Cedric picked a spot and occupied it. After creating a small zone for him to occupy, he sat down and began comprehending.
Cedric didn’t hold back. As the law insights surged to him, filling up the gaps in his knowledge, he doubled down and gazed upon them using his divine eyes.
This made everything more intense for him. Not in an obvious way but in a subtle, almost invisible manner.
Obviously, the people around him had no idea what his eyes could do. They weren’t so rude as to ask him about his secrets either.
Through this way, Cedric’s comprehension rate skyrocketed. But unlike what most people would do if they were in his shoes, he didn’t focus on his strengths.
He didn’t actively filter the laws of Sword, Fire, or Space. He didn’t even think about them.
Instead, he focused on getting the other concept laws he knew up to speed. He planned on elevating them to the same level as others.
Comprehending a lot of concept laws, or the concept laws as a whole, was a road many deemed impossible, simply because it demands way too much from someone. It’s also impossible because it just simply was.
Conceptual laws are already elusive on their own. Many people will desperately chase for a single chance to catch a glimpse of them their entire lives and die seeing nothing.
Receiving the blessing and the chance to comprehend a single concept of law is already a blessing many would cherish for their entire life. They might not even master it in their lifetime. Comprehending two concept laws is rare even for someone from a strong lineage who has incredible talent.
Three or more was just outright outrageous. They’re either mad or a once-in-a-lifetime genius.
Comprehending conceptual laws as a whole? That’s an insane idea. No one would dare to do that. That path is a dead end. Nonexistent, even. It’s an idea that only a few people would dare entertain, only in their dreams.
But Cedric was obviously different. He was never normal.
He was already doing this even before he got to the Primitive Universe. And even after that, the foundation was already there. Sure, he had to work hard to fill out the gaps and get them up to the standards of this primitive universe, but the ending was still the same.
Cedric did what others wouldn’t even dare to think of. He did the impossible.
Nobody would’ve ever dared imagine him knowing this many concept laws and excelling. The idea itself would fry their brains from sheer confusion.
And Cedric? He doesn’t care about their opinion. He’s vaguely aware that he’s doing something between insane and unbelievable, but he kept going anyway.
He never once doubted if he could do it. He’s just doing it simply because he can.
And it’s working.
Sure, his main focus lately had been his sword, fire, and space laws, but that doesn’t mean he neglected others. He held onto them and consistently refreshed his knowledge so that he wouldn’t forget.
Now that he’s in a place where he could literally bring everything else up to the same level as the others, why would he waste this opportunity?
And that’s what he’s doing right now. He’s devouring conceptual law insights like a whale inhaling air.
He’s got just enough brainpower to maintain this rate of improvement.
And if he wants to test his insights and apply them in ways he imagined? They could always go out of the perimeter and unleash his capabilities. The Origin Heaven Continent was large and sturdy; it could handle his practice. Or, he could do it using his main body or other clones.
In fact, he could choose to do all of the above if he really wanted to. Who’s going to stop him?
This was an incredible opportunity. He never imagined that he’d be so lucky to have ever encountered such a good thing from something he thought was useless.
He had his considerations upon arriving here, but now that he’s here and receiving all of this, he’s never been more glad to make this decision.
’It would’ve been nice if the other Human Sovereigns were here too,’ he thought.
He doesn’t know what kind of standards the managers of this place had for choosing people and why they haven’t invited any of the Human Sovereigns, but he couldn’t interfere either.
Cedric was sure they’d love it here. They probably won’t hesitate to make a new clone to send here and take advantage of this place.
If they could be here, they’d improve at such an alarming pace that Cedric wouldn’t have to be wary of the Bug Empress anymore. They’d gladly take care of her in his stead.
And wouldn’t that be nice? Not doing anything but reaping the benefits?
Alas, it’s not up to him.
