Elder Kinston's Exclusive Sweet Wife

Chapter 1333 - 1372: Pretending to Be Fine

"I didn’t mean that!" she hurriedly said.

"I know," he replied, "Rest assured, he is your father. No matter what, I won’t take action against him, and the things you asked me to keep secret, I won’t reveal either."

As he spoke, he gave a bitter smile. Actually, if he really said it, her father might hate him even more.

"Alright, I’ll head back. You and Ivy must be tired too. You should rest early," Kyle Kinston said, pretending to be unfazed as he walked past Mabel Quinn, heading toward the gate of the Quinn Family estate.

Mabel watched the figure gradually walking away, feeling an indescribable sensation.

The pain in his body continued, and only after he turned his back to Mabel did Kyle Kinston’s brows furrow again. The only relief was that Edward Quinn’s punches mostly landed on his chest and abdomen, rather than his face; otherwise, it would have been impossible to hide it from Mabel.

Unexpectedly, he didn’t want her to know about this. Was he afraid it would sadden her? He laughed at himself lightly. If she was sad, wouldn’t that mean she cared about him? By rights, he should be happy, but he didn’t want her to be sad.

Or... was he afraid that even if she knew, she would show an indifferent expression?

His heart was in extreme conflict, so... it might be best if she didn’t know.

Just as Kyle Kinston was nearing the gate, suddenly, the sound of hurried footsteps came from behind him. He looked back, somewhat surprised, only to see Mabel Quinn already approaching him, grabbing his wrist abruptly, saying, "Come with me!"

Saying this, she directly dragged him in another direction.

He almost followed her pace dumbfoundedly until she pulled him into a room, and then moved closer to him...

Kyle Kinston was in a daze at her sudden closeness, which surprised him. From the tip of his nose, he could even smell the faint fragrance in her hair...

But the next moment, her hand suddenly pressed against his chest, and instantly, a slight pain came, making him instinctively furrow his brows. However, after the initial frown, he suddenly seemed to realize something, raising his eyes sharply to look at her.

Mabel Quinn seemed to understand and asked, "You’re injured? Did my father hit you?"

He sighed lightly; apparently, he hadn’t really hidden it from her. "It’s nothing," he said blandly, "To me, it doesn’t count as an injury and hardly hurts. So there’s no need to feel anything about it."

She bit her lip gently, "Is that so? Then let me have a look."

Look? His eyes were full of astonishment. Did her words mean...

"I want to see your injury," she said.

"There’s nothing to see; like I said, it doesn’t even count as an injury," he said.

"What if I insist on seeing it?" she said, taking a deep breath.

He gazed at her steadily, and after a while, he spoke with a slightly hoarse voice, "Why... must you see it? Even if you do, so what?"

"No matter what, this matter is still related to me," Mabel Quinn said. As for a deeper reason, even she couldn’t articulate it.

Just like he said, even if she saw it, so what? But she still wanted to see it with her own eyes.

Her long eyelashes gently lowered, half-covering those deep phoenix eyes, "It’s my fault. Your father just hit me a few times to get justice for you. Actually, even if your father crippled me today, I would have nothing to say."
