Dragon Genesis: I Can Create Dragons

Chapter 530: I will not allow a fight.

Chapter 530: I will not allow a fight.

“You hold no seat.

No authority.

No power.

Then what makes you different?

Are you perhaps… suggesting you are superior to us all for some reason?”

Vandra asked with a sharp look on her face and this time, more people turned towards Draksis with narrowed eyes.

For a moment, Draksis froze. He had expected Kael, Lavinia or maybe even the Matriarch to interrupt him. He was prepared to face them all as long as he had people on his side but this…

This was completely out of his expectations.

Yes, he knew there were some crazy fools who treated that man like a God, but these fools weren’t daring enough to speak till now, they had never raised their voice before, then…

Then why now!?

Why was every single one of them glaring at him with that gaze?

Draksis observed these people to find the answer and the only thing he could see was… Vandra herself.

And the more he looked at her, the uglier his face got until finally—

His face twisted.

“You’re a mindless devotee,”

He spat.

“I am not superior to all of you or any of you in that matter, but a woman who refuses to think for herself? A woman who found an outsider and called him your god because it was easier than facing fear on her own?

I would never let a woman that foolish stop me from setting the wrong things right!”

He raised his voice, staring at Kael when he said the word ’wrong’, clearly showing what he meant by that.

A sharp breath ran through the crowd, reacting to Draksis’s harsh words.

This time, Vandra’s expression changed.

Insults to her—she could take them.

But that last line wasn’t an insult to her.

It was an insult to him.

And that was something she could not allow. In an instant, her eyes turned hard, she stepped towards Draksis and then raised her voice.

“You call me mindless,”

She began,

“but where were you when the Wall needed saving?

Where were you when people were starving!?”

She pointed toward Kael without even looking at him.

“Lord Kael fought when the Stonefangs attacked. He stood against the enemy with barely a fifth of our usual army standing behind him. A battle he could have very well lost his life in, but he didn’t give in. He stood tall and protected us.

And when the people were hungry, when the elderlies were starving to death because of the Provisioners’ corruption, he stepped forward and brought food. So much food that now almost every Velmourn is dependent on him for it.

He made it so every Velmourn doesn’t just eat food to survive, he made it so every Velmourn now eats to fill their bellies, he made it so every Velmourn now looks forward to when he could go and eat, when he could… taste what he never has in his entire life.

He… he gave us hope.

Something to look forward to every single day.

He… he made it so that even we, the Velmourns, who have just been surviving ever since we were born… enjoy… living.

It was his appearance that made it possible for the Velmourns to smile much more often than before, it was his appearance that gave our children the freedom to go out and play since they no longer need to worry about consuming more energy and lack of food.

He, Lord Kael, the ’outsider I think of as a God,’ has done that for me and for my people.”

Her voice echoed throughout the Square, making the people listen to every word that was spoken. Then, the woman turned back to Draksis and her warm voice became… colder.

“And you?”

She said as her face changed.

“You did what most of us did.

You worked.

You forged.

You… lived.”

Vandra’s words sharpened as she took a deep breath.

“That does not make you worthless, I do not imply that. I understand you were called the most excellent forger in our generation, this was the reason you were given your position in the council and your title and I respect you for it, but that does not give you the power to stop me from saying what I wish to.

And it certainly does not give you the right to spit on the one person who kept this city standing.”

The woman spoke and the instant she finished—

“Exactly!”

“How can one be so ungrateful!?”

“I saw him eating the Divine Rations yesterday! How can he stand against the person feeding him!?”

More and more people began.

Most of these people were the ones who followed Vandra, but seeing them, a few more joined, a few had a positive opinion of Kael and did not like Draksis constantly trying to pull him down.

Draksis’s face reddened at that sight.

“You dare—”

He started as he stepped forward to face the group, completely losing his control. A few people, those who held extremely strong hatred for the Stonefangs, came to support him.

Their arguments were simple, they did not like how they would need to share the Wall with the ones who tried to crush it before. They feared the Stonefangs would show their true colors the moment they were inside and how Kael was too young to be making the decisions that would be affecting them all.

And yes, some of their points were indeed valid, but then Kael’s supporters lashed out even further, mentioning how this wasn’t just Kael’s decision, but the council’s.

Just like that, the area heated up and more people began shouting—some defending Kael, some defending Draksis, some just shouting because all the built-up tension had finally found a crack.

The square began to tilt toward chaos again, Morvain and the other elders’ expressions tightened at the sight until once again—

“RRROOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRR!!!”

Kael roared and just like it happened before—the shouting died and the people froze.

Once again, the people turned towards the man responsible for it and Kael—

“Enough.”

He ordered.

“This is not a debate,”

He spoke in a controlled voice, looking at the people with a sharp gaze that seemed like a warning.

“I allowed questions because I wanted doubts spoken, not whispered.”

His gaze lingered on Draksis and Vandra both then—

“I will not allow a fight,

Not today.

Not here.”

Vandra lowered her head at those words, instantly backing out. Draksis, on the other hand, clicked his tongue in annoyance, he did not like how he was being talked to as if he was a subordinate.

Kael, however, did not care about what he thought, he instead turned towards the Council Elders.

“Elder Aelindra, Elder Tarevian.”

He called out.

The Warden of Provisions and the Voice of the Commonfolk turned towards him and Kael nodded at them politely,

“Please begin the shifting process immediately. Empty the assigned quarter. Move its residents into the remaining quarters according to the lists you prepared.”

Aelindra nodded, her mind already beginning to calculate. Tarevian’s jaw clenched; he still seemed unsure but he knew it was happening and nothing could stop him. He too took out the list he and Aelindra had prepared after working all night and began reading it silently.

“I will return with the Stonefangs,”

Kael spoke, his words creating a wave of ripple that moved through the crowd. Many, even some of those who stood on Vandra’s side just now and supported Kael, seemed nervous.

“How long would it take?”

Morvain asked, trying to get back at least some form of control.

“In six hours at the earliest. It may take longer if things don’t move according to the plan.”

Kael answered politely, his voice now seemed much different since he was talking to the Matriarch.

The people didn’t notice it and found it natural but both Lavinia and the Matriarch herself instantly realized he was trying to compensate for her loss of power.

It was honestly quite a demeaning move, but they both knew Kael wasn’t doing it with that thought in his mind, he just…

He just wasn’t ready to accept the complete power now falling on his shoulders.

In the end, Morvain nodded back at him and—

“Take the Communication Crystal, you are to inform me if anything out of the ordinary happens.”

She ordered.

“Yes, Matriarch.”

Kael bowed his head slightly and nodded.

Then, he stared at the people one last time before he jumped into the air and flew away, a sight that no human would ever be used to.

“To think a human can fly without a Flying Beast…”

A man commented in awe as he stared at the sky.

“Hmph! You are a fool if you still believe he is a human.”

Another man snorted, he was one of the earliest members of the Faith Group. The man stared in the direction Kael flew to, the reverence in his eyes only getting stronger as he talked about Kael.

“He is a God.”

He continued.

“A God who descended to our world to help us humans, to make this world a special place.

And he is doing just that.”

He then turned towards Draksis and a disgusted look appeared on his face—

“Though there are still some blind fools trying to stop him, fools who would shamelessly and willingly take everything our God offers but would never acknowledge him, but then again—

That is simply how greedy and vile a human mind is.

And our God is too merciful to not even react to it.”

The man sighed, lowering his eyes as he looked at Draksis with pity now.

Draksis, who noticed that look, wanted to say something but then—

“That is enough.”

Vandra spoke up.

“Did you not hear what Lord said?

No fights.”

“As you command, Lady Vandra.”

The man lowered his head.
