Chapter 400: I SAID STOP IT!!!
Chapter 400: I SAID STOP IT!!!
In the middle of the night, when everyone was fast asleep, Nyrri’s eyelids trembled as he sensed an unusual amount of heat encompassing his entire body.
Laviatharid was a being of the ocean, he was used to cool temperatures, so his body was much more sensitive to heat since it felt uncomfortable.
Unable to bear it any longer, he lazily opened his eyes, wanting to find the source of the heat, and the moment he realized where it was coming from, fear struck his heart.
It was Kael.
His body released all this heat, his chest heaved without stop, and his whole body trembled as if he was fighting something in his sleep.
Now, Nyrri knew humans in general had weak bodies. There were times when their body heat soared like this and they became weak.
They called it a fever.
However, this was something far beyond that. Right now, it felt like his father’s body was kept on top of a fireplace.
Nyrri even tried using a light amount of water to cool down his father’s body, but as the water touched Kael’s skin, instead of cooling it down, the water became warm instead.
Since his methods didn’t work, Nyrri panicked and quickly turned towards his sister.
“Cirri…”
He whispered, shaking her shoulder.
Cirri groaned and turned lazily.
“Cirri…”
Nyrri called out again.
“What is it…?”
Cirri mumbled, her eyes half-shut.
She had barely gotten an hour of sleep. Being woken up like this annoyed her to an inexplicable extent.
However, just as she was about to lash out, her eyes fell on her younger brother’s worried face, and her anger flushed away.
The Laviatharid seemed pale as he pointed his claws at his father. Cirri followed his claws and froze.
Their father’s body was burning up. The Sky Dragon could even see steam curling from his skin, as if his very blood was boiling. His hands clenched and unclenched continuously, and his legs twitched with every tremor that ran through him.
“What is happening to him…?”
Nyrri questioned, his tone didn’t hide his worry.
“…”
Cirri stayed silent, even she did not know what was happening.
Because of all the commotion and Nyrri’s constant panic, the rest of the people in the room started waking up as well.
The first was Imperia, the Ant was already sensitive to sound around her. Soon, Igni and Vitaria woke up as well.
The Ancients started to discuss what was happening, coming up with suggestions to treat their father, and during their discussion, Lavinia woke up as well.
“What is happening…?”
The Mage questioned, sensing the heat coming out of Kael’s body.
The Bonds shook their heads, they did not have the answer to the Mage’s question—well, at least not till now, but then—
“A nightmare…”
Vitaria spoke up.
“Nightmare…?”
“He is having a nightmare, a very strong nightmare.”
The Fox spoke, and her words only confused Lavinia—
“Can nightmares have… such effect on one’s physical body?”
“They can, if the nightmare has a strong connection with him.”
Vitaria nodded.
“These nightmares usually come from one’s mind, they are usually formed in cases of regret, more accurately, they are formed when one believes that he should be punished.
The effect usually depends on a being’s strength. Any normal person would only have a slight fever and a headache, but since Father is so strong that a little fever or a headache would never be able to bother him—
The effect became stronger.”
The Fox explained.
“Are you saying… he is doing it to himself?”
Lavinia questioned.
“At a subconscious level, yes.”
The Fox nodded.
“Why? What happened?”
Igni questioned, the Fox shook her head.
“I do not know.”
She then slowly walked towards Kael’s body and placed her paw on his forehead.
“Watching his nightmare should give us a better idea.”
The Fox spoke as she released purple energy that moved inside Kael’s forehead, and very quickly, Kael’s nightmare appeared on the screen that formed above his body, allowing everyone to see it.
…
The nightmare began with silence.
Kael looked down at his hands—soaked, dripping with blood. The blood slid down his arms, hot and sticky, pooling around his feet until the ground itself turned red.
He panicked.
“I-It isn’t coming off!”
Kael cried, his voice echoing throughout the silent environment. He continued rubbing his palms against his shirt, against the stone floor, but the blood only smeared and spread further.
“Why won’t it come off!?”
No matter how hard he scrubbed, the blood clung tighter, seeping into his skin, turning his veins red.
His breathing became fast and ragged as his hands started shaking violently.
Kael continued to rub his hands, so much that it almost felt like he was about to scrape his skin off in order to try and get rid of the blood, but then suddenly—
“…why did you kill my father?”
A voice was heard, instantly piercing through the scarily off silence.
Kael turned around and his eyes fell on a small Stonefang boy standing in front of him, barefoot, his eyes red with pain.
“I… I had no choice!”
Kael stammered, his voice breaking. He stumbled back, still scrubbing at his palms.
“If I hadn’t acted, too many people would have died—!”
“Why did you kill my brother?”
Another child stepped forward. This time, a girl with a hollow, expressionless face as if she could no longer feel anything.
“No… I didn’t mean to…!”
Kael’s chest tightened.
“Please, I didn’t want this!”
But more children appeared. Dozens of them. Their little faces filled with sorrow and rage, their voices overlapping.
“Why did you kill them?”
“Why did you kill them?”
“Why did you kill them?”
Their voices grew louder, violently shaking his skull. Kael pressed his hands over his ears, trying to relieve himself from these constant voices, but the sound only grew sharper, cutting into him.
“Stop it! I didn’t want this! I didn’t want to kill anyone! I had to do it!”
He screamed as his body began to lose strength and he fell on his knees. His bloodstained hands clawed at the ground.
“Please… stop…”
He practically begged.
On the ground, the faces of the Stonefangs he killed were inscribed, almost as if trying to etch themselves into Kael’s very mind.
He looked up—and all the children’s eyes glowed red. Their mouths twisted open, too wide, stretching unnaturally as they screamed in unison.
“Murderer!”
The sound ripped through him. His skin burned as if the blood had turned to fire, flames crawling up his arms, scorching him from the inside.
Kael writhed, his body trembling, sweat pouring down his face. He clawed at his arms, desperate to tear the burning veins apart.
“I… I did not do it on purpose!!”
He wanted to shout it out loud, but his voice cracked, burying under the children’s constant allegations.
“Murderer!”
“Murderer!”
“Murderer!”
“I’m not a murderer! I’m not—!”
The children’s faces blurred again, twisting, shifting—until suddenly he saw Lavinia standing together with them.
“Kael… what did you do…?”
The Princess questioned as red tears rolled down her cheeks.
When Kael saw her, his eyes widened in horror. She was missing one arm, smoke was coming out of her charred shoulder—clearly, her arm was burned away.
“L-Lavinia!”
Kael panicked, he quickly rushed towards the Mage and grabbed her shoulders.
“W-What happened!? Who did this to you!?”
He questioned, the weakened Lavinia turned her head, pointing in a certain direction. Kael followed her gaze and his eyes widened in horror.
“RRROOOOOAAAAAAAAAAARRRR!!”
He heard Igni’s roar as he burned down the Stonefang land.
It was just him. Imperia’s ants attacked the Stonefangs as well, Vitaria’s illusion made it impossible for them to fight back, Cirri vaporized them with thunder, and Nyrri drowned the Stonefang children underwater.
The poor Stonefangs were completely helpless against them, they couldn’t even run away.
“They said they wanted to follow the path you walked on, even if that meant them becoming murderers.”
Lavinia explained.
“I tried stopping them and—”
The Mage spoke as she pointed at her missing arm.
“This was the result of that.”
“N-No! That can’t be!”
Kael couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
He quickly rushed forward, his body passing through the sea of flames Igni had created and—
“IGNI!!”
He called out, wanting to stop his firstborn.
For a moment, Igni paused and looked at him. Kael smiled in desperation, he wanted Igni to stop, but before he could say anything, Igni flew away, burning a few more Stonefangs, not listening to his father at all.
“CIRRI!! RIA!!! VITA!! NYRRI!!!!”
Kael tried calling the rest of his children, but just like Igni, they ignored him as well and continued bringing doom to the Stonefang land while Kael himself collapsed on the ground, unable to believe what he was seeing.
“STOP IT!!
I SAID STOP IT!!!”
He shouted, but once again, his voice was buried under the Stonefang screams.
“…”
“…”
And Lavinia and the others, who saw the nightmare play out, all stared at each other with solemn looks on their faces as they finally realized what this was about.
