Chapter 1745: Ah sh*t, here we go again!
"How’s it, darling?" Sarah hooked her arms around his neck upon reaching home and greeted him with a kiss.
"No progress on the bottleneck. A theory on Architect seems probable." Varian wrapped his arm around her shoulder and walked in.
"Sia is the last to break through." Sarah giggled as she led him to a large training hall.
"She’ll get mad if you keep this up."
"Sometimes, I like seeing her mad." Sarah said with a devilish smile.
Sia was still seated in a meditative posture, focused on hitting rank 2. Enigma was keeping a watch on her, just in case something went wrong.
There’s no bottleneck problem since they benefitted from Synergy. The sheer power of a peak rank 2 enabled monstrous progress.
In those five years, they all reached peak rank 1. Going from rank 1 to rank 2 was a different thing.
Taking thousands of years was considered fast. People could spend millions of years without any progress.
The low rank 2 female ranker that tried to seduce Varian was trying to breakthrough for almost half a million years.
In contrast, they broke through to rank 2 in just ten!
It’s a crazy speed with no parallel across the universe. Of course, Varian himself was at a different level. In a way, their speed was a reflection and product of his.
Boom!
With a magnificent explosion of aura, Sia’s aura skyrocketed. She opened her eyes slowly, a ruby-like red light flashed in them before subsiding.
Noticing Varian, she raised her arms and was ready to jump at him. But Enigma was faster, reaching him in a blink.
"Hmph!" Sia snorted but held him from the other side.
Varian spent some time with them without any goal in mind. They knew about his attempts to breakthrough and tried to help.
But there’s nothing they could do. Sia and Sarah volunteered to check ancient scriptures, but he declined the offer.
As a peak rank 2, he could deploy plenty of clones himself to do the work. He didn’t want to burden them.
By the side of the river, they watched the sunset.
Enigma was swinging her legs in the river, humming a tune.
Sia laid down on the grass, looking at the passing clouds through her finger gaps.
Sarah leaned back, looking at the mountains in the distance, a look of satisfaction on her face.
Even though they were all focusing on different things, they all had similar emotions. A deep sense of satisfaction and joy.
"This is life." Sia muttered as she rolled onto Varian’s lap, looking up at him with a smile. "Varian, I really, really love you. Some people say love gets boring. I never felt it. I love our days. Life is so good."
Enigma turned back and said. "Even if you reach rank 3, please don’t change this."
"Remove the please." Sarah said and looked at him. "Besides, why would he change anything? This is your dream life as well as his."
"Hey, it’s mine too!" Sia glared at her.
Sarah shook her head in exasperation. "Aurora doesn’t even do Synergy with him and you still keep turning yandere.
Maybe I should tie you up in a chair and let Aurora do Vari—"
"Hey!" Sia jumped on her and the two began a harmless fight. It’s mostly Sia trying to fight and losing.
Varian shook his head and turned to the rabbit.
"Primula?"
"Busy managing Eden." Enigma said, titling her head in genuine confusion. "What does she really find so interesting about managing, err, ruling Eden?"
Varian laughed. Only Enigma would ask this question.
People would risk their life for a little power, kill even their parents and siblings. And here was the rule of Eden itself.
Primula wasn’t really ruling it for the sake of power. But out of them all, she’s the one most adept at it. She seemed to just enjoy the activity of managing things.
"I’ll meet Isadora." Varian stood up.
"Wait! Varian, help me beat her up!" Sia called for help from the river.
Somehow, she managed to drag Sarah into the waters and they’re both completely drenched.
"No, Var! Help me beat her up!" Sarah pleaded, eyes watering at command.
Enigma didn’t know a lot of things. But some things, she knew very well. She took one glance at Varian and then smiled at the two.
He was planning to meet Isadora. But seeing the two wet in water, under the dreamy sunset...
"I’m coming!" Varian jumped into the river.
Both the women were hopeful, believing he’d help them over the other.
As a result, the two ended up in his arms.
""Hey!""
The earth was the mattress, the sky their blanket. The innocent Enigma was dragged into the love making.
After a short while for Varian and a long while for the women, it ended.
Varian dressed himself before waving a goodbye. "I helped you both beat the other one up. You’re welcome, ladies."
With a sigh at his own greatness, he left, leaving behind even more outrageous words. "How lucky my wives are to have such a perfect husband!"
Sia and Sarah looked at each other, both bewildered by his words before they both laughed. Enigma joined them and the three friends chattered under the moon light.
Everything in the world was at their fingertips. Yet, this simple life was the most gratifying.
A moment later, Varian appeared in a forbidden region of Hortus.
The region of Order & Chaos.
When he was a mortal and even a celestial ranker, he only gained some insight here.
But as a peak rank 2, this was no longer a good place, it’s the fricking experimental ground of primordial gods!
Even with the bottleneck, he was learning more and more about the avenues here.
"Early, aren’t we?" A haughty voice greeted him.
"You should’ve joined." Varian hugged the woman with aloof expression.
"Shamelessly asking me to turn your foursome into a fivesome." Isadora snorted but gave him a kiss before pulling him to a training room.
Leaning against the wall, Aurora in training clothes, drenched in sweat and exhausted, looked at him with pleading eyes. "B-Brother-in-law, save me!"
She almost jumped at him, almost. Unfortunately, she’s too tired to actually do that.
"How about you...relax the regimen a little?" Varian asked.
Isadora raised her index finger and poked his chest. "Even if you take her away now, she’ll come here tomorrow on her own initiative.
Her origin is repaired. Maybe she can gain some thing and help you break that bottleneck."
Aurora nodded timidly. "I want to help...but she’s really beating me up in the name of training."
Isadora shook her finger. "It’s called pushing you to your limits."
Varian’s lips twitched.
Isadora was...well, Isadora.
And Aurora was Aurora. Knowing this was hell and still insisting on visiting it every day.
Varian sparred with Isadora a bit. Aurora once again refused synergy, citing it as a price she’s willing to pay for ’sneaking into the family beyond her original role’.
It’s ridiculous, but the girl remained stubborn.
Helpless, Varian dropped the topic and spent some time with the two.
By quality time, he meant chatting, a small walk or some similar activity.
But Isadora understood it differently. Instead of correcting, Aurora was supporting her.
As his clothes were torn to shreds, Varian sighed.
"Ah sh*t, here we go again."
